Pretty hard to go wrong with a pair of limited edition Jupiter Camo Jawbones from Oakley.

I'll give you that the (O) logo reminds me more of Saturn, though, but I guess the car company has copyright on that one.

take that to the trypophobia thread

I like a ton of sunglasses but it's so hard to know if they'll look good on your head. I'm looking for ones with circular or oval lenses, maybe gold wireframe with tortoiseshell trim. but it's pretty low on my list of demands.

(╯°□°)╯︵ mode squad) (dayo), Monday, 3 October 2011 20:27 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah was kinda just wondering if there was a sunglass thread that has photos to browse

dmr, Monday, 3 October 2011 20:44 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm horrible at picking out sunglasses. I can never shake the feeling that I ought to be also wearing a fedora at a video arcade.

Talk to Je55e about the perils of leaving contacts in for so long.

pullapartsquirrel (Jenny), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 21:35 (thirteen years ago) link

Or me. I've done it and then fucked up eyes to the point where I wasn't allowed to wear contacts for a year. DO NOT BE LIKE ME ANDREW! Put new ones in asap. Better yet, let you eyes breathe for a couple days before doing so.

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Wednesday, 5 October 2011 14:27 (thirteen years ago) link

leaving in contacts: they mess up u face!

Don't ask Momus about the perils of contacts staying in, imo. Dude has an eyepatch now.

this thread always make me feel like having one pair of glasses is so passe! and i'm still proud of myself for getting new glasses this spring after 4 years of off&on wearing the same old ones (mostly not wearing/not seeing). but i don't even know how i would go about choosing between different glasses on a given day. unless i had hot pink ones and glittery ones and severe ones etc, but then i'd feel like i was costuming up life too much? hm.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:42 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't even have contacts yet!

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:43 (thirteen years ago) link

I have one pair! I haven't regularly worn glasses since sixth grade, up until this year. Then suddenly, I got glasses I liked wearing, my eyes have gotten drier, and now they seem like a good option!

I have a friend who has vision so wonky that he has to wear contacts AND glasses, and he has a habit of squinting or closing his eyes when thinking, because if he gets distracted his eyes tend to drift! He has a number of fashionable pairs of glasses. He is also an architect and lived in Barcelona for a bit, so...

^^ Ah. An aristocrat.

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 6 October 2011 13:39 (thirteen years ago) link

i feel like i have to have more than 1 pair of specs because i react with pointless anxiety about coordinating stuff, srsly like UGH these glasses don't GO with ANYTHING I WANT TO WEAR, i can't wear black shoes with tortoise frames!? 1 option is not enough.

i am kinda silly that way

elmo argonaut, Thursday, 6 October 2011 13:48 (thirteen years ago) link

robyn, elmo: I do have about 15 pairs and yeah, some days I do get a little anxious about whether I'm ~choosing the right pair~ but it's nice to have at least a few options! I have a few: serious, funky, specific colours, nerdy, subtle.. I wear a certain 'perfect' black framed pair probably 50% of my time and rotate the others in off and on. I have a few pairs I just haven't worn for months because they fell out of my favour.

So yeah. No new glasses or even looking at glasses websites for me until my prescription changes!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 6 October 2011 14:05 (thirteen years ago) link

I only have one pair in my new prescription but I'm getting my beloved Lafont "Darling" frames relensed after payday and I'm eligible for new frames through my insurance in Jan. I usually have three or four active pairs thanks to el cheapo internet retailers like Zenni.

pullapartsquirrel (Jenny), Thursday, 6 October 2011 14:19 (thirteen years ago) link

btw dudes i took my contacts out, just fyi

elmo argonaut, Thursday, 6 October 2011 21:28 (thirteen years ago) link

:)

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 6 October 2011 21:34 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah i will look into getting another pair of glasses online now that i have a proper new prescription to refer to, but really i would (also) like contacts as a way to move btwn styles

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 6 October 2011 21:36 (thirteen years ago) link

so the ray bans i bought at lens crafters: i love them. have you seen the commercials for their fancy new system? they put this thing on the frames and take a picture and i thought it was a lot of hype but my vision out of those glasses is amazing. and the ones i'd ordered online using pd from the old 'look in the box' measurement i had done were really weird. i felt a little nauseous. too bad buying glasses in the store is so $$$$$ :(

tehresa, Thursday, 6 October 2011 23:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh yeah, if you feel nauseated then those are not right. The crazy frames I bought over the summer that made me feel a little weird? Turns I mis-entered the PD and it was off by 1.5 mm. That little bit was enough to make them hard to wear.

You should get your PD measurement from your eye doctor and see if it's the same as the look-in-the-box measurement.

pullapartsquirrel (Jenny), Friday, 7 October 2011 00:02 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i gotta see if the lc lady put it on my receipt for the glasses... i called my eye doc a while back and they said they don't have that measurement, i'd have to get it from an optician.

tehresa, Friday, 7 October 2011 00:27 (twelve years ago) link

oh and i sent the other glasses back.

tehresa, Friday, 7 October 2011 00:27 (twelve years ago) link

Those eye docs hold those pd's with a tight fist sometimes too!

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 7 October 2011 00:30 (twelve years ago) link

I know! My eye doc was really reluctant to give me mine, and when she did, she gave me a stern warning about internet glasses. Then when I came back to pick up my sunglasses (that I spent plenty on, so it's not like I'm taking advantage of my poor eye doc) the optician raved about my new glasses until I asked her to adjust them because I had ordered them on line. Then she got very grim and told me she could adjust them, but they would probably break, etc. etc. Phooey.

Although I do get nervous having only one pair of glasses in my current Rx. What if I break them or lose them or I am looking down over over a railing and they fall off my face and into the river or a pigeon steals them??????
