I ordered one in that color too! But 3/4 sleeves and with the sort of gathered v neck with tabs

just1n3, Friday, 15 March 2013 23:51 (eleven years ago) link

that dress might make me look really hippy, because I already have gigantic hips (52"!!), but oh wellllllll

Right now my husband's wrapped up in it with the puppy on top, you'll have to battle pretty hard to get to it!

I'm scrappy

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 30 March 2013 03:03 (eleven years ago) link

When Max was young I was obsessed with calling him a "happy scrappy puppy." It got weird.

In dresses news, I'm using some of unemployment to sew, and I made myself a navy blue pencil skirt! No pictures til I fix the wonky side seam but I am pleased, having used no patterns and ending up with something almost outside-worthy.

yay! i cant wait to see it!

Awesome, Fine! Was just looking at machines tonight.

*tera, Saturday, 30 March 2013 05:01 (eleven years ago) link

Sewing machines are pretty great! If you have the time. Suddenly it's all like, hey, I can make those curtains! And the table cloth! And eventually you're upgrading to nicer clothes, etc. It just makes a huge difference from hand-sewing, even if you don't magically become an expert tailor or anything.

lets just remember to blame the patriarchy for (in orbit), Saturday, 30 March 2013 05:03 (eleven years ago) link

Buuuut if you wanted to be an expert tailor, Threads Magazine is toooootally the thing.

lets just remember to blame the patriarchy for (in orbit), Saturday, 30 March 2013 05:03 (eleven years ago) link

I basically learned to sew from a) watching my mom, and b) reading Threads exhaustively before I even had a machine, just puzzling out how the directions would work. I was also young and energetic and poor and creatively frustrated so it gave me an outlet, but seriously, Threads is serious.

Oh yes, I think you told me about Threads before! Thanks for the reminder.

It's been a nice way of feeling productive while unemployed, definitely. Lucky for me I've picked it up at the same time Grandma has given it up so I got lots of free supplies from her! Including soo many shoulder pads.

Unemployed? Are congratulations or commiseration in order? (sorry if I missed it on another thread.)

carl agatha, Saturday, 30 March 2013 15:01 (eleven years ago) link

Oh, no worries! I got laid off along with about 25 other people at my company, with severance which is why I'm sewing myself pretty things rather than looking for jobs (blessing/curse)!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 30 March 2013 15:05 (eleven years ago) link

I hope you find something great and sew a lt of awesome clothes in he meantime!

carl agatha, Saturday, 30 March 2013 15:24 (eleven years ago) link

Thanks! That job was irritating me too much at the end, anyway. And now I have time to sew up all the clothes in my closet with holes.. I may also chop up an eshakti with a beautiful skirt but an ill-fitting bodice!

http://cache.theoutnet.com/images/products/192333/192333_fr_l.jpg

i like the color and somehow the ruffliness appeals to me. once again they don't have my size :(

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Saturday, 30 March 2013 21:00 (eleven years ago) link

Love both of those. Would buy both (at a charity store charging about a twentieth of the price).

ljubljana, Saturday, 30 March 2013 21:05 (eleven years ago) link

the blue one is only like $300.. it would be nice if they get my size back in

I have a couple weddings to go to in the spring & nothing suitable to wear - only dress that might work is deep green and raaather short, I like it fine but my parents will be at one of them & I expect my mother would say something like... you're wearing that?!

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Saturday, 30 March 2013 21:15 (eleven years ago) link

both are gorgeous!

this is the one I really want

let's see if I get fed up enough with dress shopping to pay for it..

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 22:47 (eleven years ago) link

seriously i look at dresses that are really girly and ruffly and it seems like a hilarious idea & luckily after looking a few times I realize that would totally .. be a thing I would wear once but never again

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 22:48 (eleven years ago) link

I bought a dress for my brother's wedding today. Total 180 from the styles I had been looking at, but I love it so much

It's a DKNY, made out of really thick stretch elastane, almost wetsuit material underneath, and the draping is a light jersey knit...hugs everywhere but it's so rad.
Partly bcz of Homo's awesome post in the 'Right to Be Fat' thread I decided fuck it, I'm gonna be me. AND it was on crazy sale on the one-of-a-kind rack at Macy's so i took it as a sign.

love it .

JuliaA, Saturday, 13 April 2013 23:54 (eleven years ago) link

so after moaning that they only made this dress in black, they bring it out in other colours! Sadly the other colours are coral which would look rubbish on me, and cream, which is SOOO CUTE but I need it for a wedding and I... can't really wear a lacyish cream dress to a wedding.

btw love that navy dress, that neckline is super flattering.

kinder, Sunday, 14 April 2013 00:09 (eleven years ago) link

that cream dress is soooo cute tho

my bff just inspired me to rock a pair of yellow shoes with my new dress. I'm gonna DO IT you guys

I love that dress! You're going to look smoking hot.

carl agatha, Sunday, 14 April 2013 02:30 (eleven years ago) link

I'm v excited about it, tbh.

Highly approve of navy dresses in general, those necklines in general, and that one in particular, especially on you in the WDYLL thread.

ljubljana, Sunday, 14 April 2013 02:52 (eleven years ago) link

Thanks :) I've never liked navy - always associated it with school uniforms I guess, idk

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 14 April 2013 03:00 (eleven years ago) link

No, it's gorgeous! And yellow shoes will be a++.

I like the colors. tbrr it looks like it needs a good dose of Static Guard. I'd spend all day trying to tug it into submission.
