oh that is secretly great because you get to hit a big dummy with your backpack

Call me at **BITCOIN (DJP), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 14:37 (eleven years ago) link

that is another thing is that people w backpacks take up twice as much space and are generally oblivious as to the fact that they are doing so, worth considering who the big dummy is in the situation really

lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 14:40 (eleven years ago) link

i mean really are you entitled to the space yr backpack use to be in

lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 14:40 (eleven years ago) link

I would rather have my backpack on my back than some random person

like seriously, if we are not on a crowded train you don't need to stand that close to me

if we are on a crowded train, I'm not wearing my backpack on my back anyway

Call me at **BITCOIN (DJP), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 14:43 (eleven years ago) link

if you take it off on the train i give you a pass

lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 14:44 (eleven years ago) link

I fucking love backpacks. Seriously, they are one of my favorite things ever. I loved backpacks as a kid and getting a new one was like one of the best things. I tried to use a more adult bag a few years ago and felt like such a tool I went back to my backpack. I'll never stray again.

I have a TSA friendly one, which is super handy.

backpack pro move for switching from shoulder to hand: carry on one shoulder, causally drop shoulder and let strap slide down arm into your hand. pull hand sharply up and let go of backpack, then catch it again by the top handle. this move provided for free, check more moves at backpackpromoves.com

I've got a cool jansport that looks like the basic model, but has a special bottom compartment (just looks like the leather lining on the bottom) that unzips to keep drinks cold. it's the best.

i kind of want to get a picnic box but no way in hell would it be a backpack

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 15:16 (eleven years ago) link

I have (not kidding) an old LL Bean rucksack made out of olive-green tapestry fabric with leather fastenings. It looks kind of elmo's number if it were made for menopausal women in 1994.

Also I think I ripped the left strap out by doing ledge's slide-and-grab.

those ll beans w the monograms... classic

乒乓, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 15:18 (eleven years ago) link

i'm am down with everything about that except the 'tapestry' part xp

ampersand cooper black (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 15:19 (eleven years ago) link

The tapestry is almost conceptual, it's just drab-green and silver leaves, over and over. I think. It's in storage in some high place because I can't throw it away: it's in perfect cond except for the ripped strap, it will NEVER EVER wear out, and my mother gave it to me.

lets just remember to blame the patriarchy for (in orbit), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 15:22 (eleven years ago) link

monogrammed ll beans were absolutely de rigeur at prep school, sometimes slung hobo-style from the end of a lacrosse or field hockey stick, sometimes embellished with flowers & big loopy handwriting in white-out pen

ampersand cooper black (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 15:24 (eleven years ago) link

i never had an ll bean pack, tho

ampersand cooper black (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 15:25 (eleven years ago) link

laurels backpack sounds tite, u shd get it repaired

lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:04 (eleven years ago) link

I think I'll wait until I'm feeling a little more menopausal.

lets just remember to blame the patriarchy for (in orbit), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:05 (eleven years ago) link

protip llbean backpacks are guaranteed for life, ive heard talk of people picking up ragged ones used and bringing them to bean and they give them a new one

lag∞n, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:06 (eleven years ago) link

I had a Muji backpack that was awesome and was thinking about getting a Herschel one for travel and stuff because they're functional but simple and plain and not ugly.

wearing yr backpack on the bus/train is savage imo, as is not taking it off before boarding an airplane

new topo designs field bag is attractive but I think I hate the velcro closure too much and it's too small. I'm now worried I'll never get away from the tactical bug out bag.
