Well it depends - this particular brand makevs multi function shapewear, so each piece can be worn on its own, as a slip or as actual shapewear. I mostly want this stuff as a layer between the world and my butt bc I'm super paranoid about ppl seeing up my skirt, and I don't always want to wear long stuff.

For me, I know that I felt more comfortable in my wedding dress with a shaping pair of undies underneath , they weren't tight or uncomfortable, but they gave me a nicer line or silhouette.

This particular brand is also good to wear with sheer stuff, instead of boring beige.

just1n3, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 19:18 (ten years ago) link

Oh and I tested the mini today - it probably rode up at the bottom a couple of inches, but was still fine, and I may have pulled it down too far anyway, and the top didn't roll down (after a couple miles walking, no sitting)

just1n3, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 19:20 (ten years ago) link

gotcha
i like bike shorts under skirts while biking for that reason
it had never occurred to me to wear these under sheer stuff - that's a good idea!

funch dressing (La Lechera), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 19:26 (ten years ago) link

I'm sitting next to an extremely wealthy client who, just to give you some idea, is ordering a custom necklace with about $70k of stones ALONE in it (not incl metals or labor). She's wearing a straight skirt with deep slits up the sides and I can see that she's wearing lace-hemmed shapewear shorts of some kind.

Wait are you in jewelry sales now?

carl agatha, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 19:44 (ten years ago) link

Oh you're doing that thing that you do for the jewelry lady again?

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 19:45 (ten years ago) link

oops x-post

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 19:45 (ten years ago) link

I remember when you did that last year and watched the merchandise in the hotel or something like that?

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 19:45 (ten years ago) link

Basically, yes. Ever since I haven't had a day job I do all-day client relations and inventory too, so now I hobnob w more rich ppl.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 19:48 (ten years ago) link

I remember when I was a senior in high school, wearing bike pants under skirt was a thing for about 2 min. A totally awesome thing.

get up in this twerk cypher (sunny successor), Friday, 23 May 2014 04:14 (ten years ago) link

this was totally a thing when i was about 7 - skater skirts with neon bike pants that were longer than the skirt.

just1n3, Friday, 23 May 2014 04:55 (ten years ago) link

Pretty sure there was a Mary Kate & Ashley video that was all about that style

sarahell, Friday, 23 May 2014 04:58 (ten years ago) link

one year passes...

I went to shop at Asos and it seems like it's all "boutiques" ie indie online sellers using Asos as a platform? Lotta bad fits and bad photos.

Gonna try eshakti after all these years I think! Hel-LO clearance and bonus offers....

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Sunday, 7 June 2015 12:21 (nine years ago) link

Driving influence to get a good job after graduation (next April) is to get more dresses!! I perused eshakti last week and was so sad I couldn't buy any.

The last thing I need is another blue dress but ugh I love this so much.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 14:22 (nine years ago) link

I'm trying to justify it by telling myself that I need a nice summer work dress, which is only true because I keep buying summer casual clothes instead.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 14:23 (nine years ago) link

i love that color

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 9 June 2015 15:18 (nine years ago) link

maybe if you give me your older blue dresses you won't feel so bad about this one!!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 13:18 (nine years ago) link

carl that dress would look great on you

horseshoe, Wednesday, 10 June 2015 13:50 (nine years ago) link

I KNOW

FFM, I have a blue dress that would look SPECTACULAR on you. I'm wearing it right now! LOL

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 15:31 (nine years ago) link

like it would look so good on you I'm debating taking it off and just sending it to you.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 15:31 (nine years ago) link

do it

Florianne Fracke (La Lechera), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 16:11 (nine years ago) link

Now I've worn it out into the 90 degree swamp of Chicago so I will wash it first.

But I'm serious about this, FFM. I love this dress but it no longer "sparks joy" and I only have so many hangers. If you want a mystery blue dress in the mail, send me your address.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 16:35 (nine years ago) link

I'm scheduling a picnic date with FFM soon and I fully expect her to turn up in a certain blue item.

ljubljana, Wednesday, 10 June 2015 16:39 (nine years ago) link

oh my god I most definitely do want a mystery blue dress! you!!! :D

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 17:43 (nine years ago) link

ilx clothing swap!
all my clothes are 2+ years old thanks to the layoff/student life style but when I graduate and have nicer clothes to share and web skillz I will make us a little site where we can post pictures of items and swap 'em. heh

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 17:45 (nine years ago) link

that would be so cool!! i like this idea a lot! as long as mailing addresses/personal info always remained private, i think it'd work out pretty well!!
i love wearing my friends' castoff clothes. i get a lot of decent stuff this way!

Florianne Fracke (La Lechera), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 17:48 (nine years ago) link

I get almost no castoffs because I am always bigger than my friends! I did steal a few of my husband's pyjama pants once I discovered MEN'S PYJAMAS HAVE POCKETS. anyway this mystery blue dress is way more exciting than pockets!

I know this is the dress thread, but while I'm here: I am wearing a skirt with a side zipper but also zippered pockets, and I unzipped my skirt in the office while trying to unzip the pocket to put my phone in. Sheesh. I played trivia and drank beers last night so I blame the hangover

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 18:02 (nine years ago) link

i have done that before

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 18:23 (nine years ago) link

LOL that's hilarious about the zipper.

Okay, FFM. I've got to wash this fine frock first, but next week I'll pop it in the post. Exciting!

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 18:34 (nine years ago) link

SO Exciting! Thank you!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 10 June 2015 19:29 (nine years ago) link

clothes swap is a great idea

esp bc i have free access to two seamstresses

just1n3, Wednesday, 10 June 2015 21:11 (nine years ago) link

i have a bunch of eshakti dresses that have basically never been worn, but they're custom-fit, so if you have 47" hips, 34" waist & 39" bust it's your lucky day (i have to dig them out of a pile of vacuum-sealed bags, so i'll take photos on the weekend)

just1n3, Wednesday, 10 June 2015 21:14 (nine years ago) link

wait it's 47/35/40 and they're all knee length

just1n3, Wednesday, 10 June 2015 21:16 (nine years ago) link

I wish I had free access to seamstresses! I paid someone to tailor one (two maybe?) of my eShakti dresses and they did a lousy job: big, gross seam along the waist that makes the dress bubble out. Blah.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 11 June 2015 14:58 (nine years ago) link

it's one of the best perks of my job tbh. i found this adorable dress with a sort of skater skirt but it didn't sit right on my hips, so instead of hemming it, my coworker lifted the whole top part of the skirt up into the waist seam - which would probably cost idk $50 at a tailor?? i get all my jeans taken in along the inseam as well as hemmed (i have big hips which means most jeans have really big thighs).

i have a lot of decent basics in new/newish condition from my work i'd be happy to swap/give away too.

what about a private facebook group? easy to post pics. non-fb ppl could create dummy accounts maybe?

just1n3, Thursday, 11 June 2015 17:26 (nine years ago) link

or i could create one dummy account, give the pw to non-fb ppl to use, just sign your name to your posts

just1n3, Thursday, 11 June 2015 17:27 (nine years ago) link

sounds good to me--i have some things i was considering posting to fb to give away, after setting up a filter. a private group would be better! i really miss clothes swapping. the in-person ones were so fun to host. online there'd be more of us, a better size range.

one dummy account for non-fb ppl seems a good idea.

JuliaA, Thursday, 11 June 2015 18:00 (nine years ago) link

I would love this! I don't have very exciting clothes but I would enthusiastically dig around my wardrobe just in case.

ljubljana, Thursday, 11 June 2015 18:02 (nine years ago) link

i guess we could use the ILS fb group we already have? i think that's set to members only.

just1n3, Thursday, 11 June 2015 18:33 (nine years ago) link

i just added some ppl that weren't already on there

just1n3, Thursday, 11 June 2015 18:38 (nine years ago) link

ok i created a dummy gmail for a fb account but you now need a ph # to verify your identity, and you can only use one ph # per fb account, so i can't set it up.

if anyone wants to do it and doesn't already have fb, i can give you the details for the dummy gmail account.

just1n3, Thursday, 11 June 2015 18:50 (nine years ago) link

oh stupid fb! I guess mine is linked to my FB account so I can't help out there :( this is exciting though!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 11 June 2015 19:50 (nine years ago) link

hahaha I just scrolled through that group and forgot how much I used to post there!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 11 June 2015 19:54 (nine years ago) link

I can try, I think my FB uses my UK phone number and I can make one with a Canadian number...

ljubljana, Thursday, 11 June 2015 20:11 (nine years ago) link

I have a bunch of stuff that fits neither my new body (bigger) and my new career (casual-er), and I would be happy to part with them! Otherwise they are going to the Goodwill.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Thursday, 11 June 2015 20:36 (nine years ago) link

I have a bunch of stuff that is cute and too small for me as well! Would be happy to find it a home better than a box in the closet.

ok i emailed ljub the gmail info

i want to take dece photos so will wait til saturday to post i think, but yeah i have tons of stuff that is way too small for me, lots of stuff i bought that i thought ONE DAY I WILL FIT THIS, stuff that i ended up not having the confidence to wear.

i also have some nice shoes! one pair was only worn once - they're tan leather round toe wedge heel oxfords or brogues or whatever. size 8 i think.
