oh hey dazzle ships for your feet, I support that

yeah dont get me wrong i hate the 'limited drop' thing it makes being into sneakers deeply uncool imo esp when you can open up stockx & see right in front of you all the most popular stuff, it really makes it into a boring rich kid game

http://kicksdeals.com/section/best-deal/

btw you can usually find some good discount stuff here

Got myself these the other day:

http://www.adidas.co.uk/dis/dw/image/v2/aagl_prd/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-adidas-products/default/dw0c96d218/zoom/BA8889_01_standard.jpg?sw=2000&sfrm=jpg

Took a bit of trying things out. Nearly considered some fancy NMDs or some of those eye-watering grey-knit things but realised I am a bit too old and uncool to pull them off. These feel like a happy compromise.

kinda in love with those sneakers 龜 posted. the 'turbo red' stripe at the back is interesting, i think i am for it.

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 23 March 2017 13:40 (seven years ago) link

yeah they're just the right side of ridiculous. also like the blue NMDs upthread.

Here's a thing: Designer trainers that cost £381 - are they really going to be any better in terms of comfort than Nike or Adidas? I get the impression that it's no.

Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc (dog latin), Thursday, 23 March 2017 15:29 (seven years ago) link

no and the only people who will be able to tell the difference will also know that u spent 4 hundo on some white tennis shoes

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 March 2017 16:03 (seven years ago) link

it's ludicrous really

i almost bought knock off common projects once then i realized it was a lose-lose

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 March 2017 16:30 (seven years ago) link

i have common projects - they aren't really comfortable, one skinned my heel pretty bad at first. they are good leather tho, they don't scuff easily at all and wipe very clean even after a year or so. for all the talk of great design and minimalism etc the tongue on them is a bit long imo. but they are nice in summer with shorts or whatever.

i like white sneakers a lot - my last three pairs are our legacy classic sneaker, all of which i got for about 100, half price or whatever. love the shape of them, you get them in canvas or leather. prefer those to common projects. the common projects chelsea boots are nice - really comfortable and the suede doesn't stain as you might imagine.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 23 March 2017 16:37 (seven years ago) link

I was gonna say - I do like the understated white sneaker thing that's happening ATM but mine would be brown after a single night out dancing. What's the easiest way to clean things like that?

Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc (dog latin), Thursday, 23 March 2017 16:38 (seven years ago) link

in general tho i'd say buyer beware about designer stuff, the price is no guarantee of quality whatsoever - some brands are really good quality, some aren't. the more luxe the brand often the worse the quality, but you know, equally i don't want to buy "built to last" men's workwear or whatever either, you're buying for the shape and the details and stuff. also some items just can't be amazing quality, like sneakers to an extent. if you buy leather shoes or a blazer or maybe knitwear, or a coat, you might expect higher quality based on the materials used. maybe.

xpost there are a good few brands that sell a little brush and some liquid for cleaning your white sneaks - jason marks is one, it's about 10 quid i think and lasts ages, really good product imo even if i have to gee myself up to be bothered washing my white sneakers.

^^ this is how i keep my white shoes fresh

the late great, Thursday, 23 March 2017 16:41 (seven years ago) link

like most things in life it's a cycle, i'm currently sporting a massive beard, haven't got my haircut in weeks, need to start going back to the gym, and all my white sneakers need a scrub. i'll get back to the top of the mountain and begin descending again soon.

sneakers are basically disposable shoes is why i wont spend a lot of money on them, also while i own many pairs i dont even wear them that much anymore, lots of boots in the winter and then canvas shoes which tbf are sneakers but a diff category in the warm weather

lag∞n, Thursday, 23 March 2017 16:47 (seven years ago) link

i would say common projects do actually last ages. my gripe was more about how they actually look rather than the quality. but tbh that's the other problem - something has to be really amazing for you to not get bored of it after a year or so. only certain items become favourites for years and it's prob random.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 23 March 2017 16:50 (seven years ago) link

they're also really fucking squeaky for the first few months

the adidas BOOST technology or w/e that looks like styrofoam actually is more noticeably comfortable than my other sneakers

, Thursday, 23 March 2017 18:47 (seven years ago) link

yeah i hear the boost sole is really amazing though i haven't tried it myself yet

the late great, Thursday, 23 March 2017 18:51 (seven years ago) link

was considering the stan smith boost

http://www.highsnobiety.com/2016/12/07/adidas-stan-smith-boost-official-images/

but i have noticed that the white leather on the new stan smiths is grayish and nasty, which is why i have switched from stan smiths to nike tennis classics

common projects are very nice looking imo and quite sturdy (ive had the same pair of white leather ones for like six years) but are fairly narrow and not as comfortable as almost any other sneaker ive purchased. i keep wanting to buy a pair of the adidas x parley ultraboosts but never putting any work into doing so. i like the ultraboost a lot tho

ive just been wearing sensible grown-up shows all winter and then a beat-up pair of roshe runs when sneakers are needed

Those zespas look exactly like Stan smiths though

same, im wearing a pair of stan smiths right now, the regular kind, and let me tell you: not comfortable shoes

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Thursday, 23 March 2017 23:33 (seven years ago) link

when i was a kid sambas were worn mainly by kids who were really into soccer for some reason

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Thursday, 23 March 2017 23:33 (seven years ago) link

thats a poorly written sentence—for some reason refers to the kids wearing sambas, not the kids being into soccer

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Thursday, 23 March 2017 23:34 (seven years ago) link

they're soccer shoes

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 23 March 2017 23:36 (seven years ago) link

i disagree, they dont have cleats

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Thursday, 23 March 2017 23:37 (seven years ago) link

they're for indoor soccer

Number None, Thursday, 23 March 2017 23:38 (seven years ago) link

yeah they're both literally a shoe made for playing indoor soccer and were (and are again now) popular in the uk with soccer fans

mostly ppl who wore mock turts under flannels were samba folk iirc my youth

lag∞n, Friday, 24 March 2017 00:09 (seven years ago) link

I feel that dudes with cobbled together cafe racers are frequently wearing sambas. I say this as someone who does these things so maybe I just notice it more.
