nb zantes are maybe my fave running shoe.....ever?

sprout god (lag∞n), Sunday, 8 July 2018 15:32 (six years ago) link

wide toebox, foam sole that falls right between minimal and medium padding, nice and light, fairly thin minimal upper, is basically the shape of my foot

sprout god (lag∞n), Sunday, 8 July 2018 15:39 (six years ago) link

nice, i never know what to get for running shoes. i have a pair of nike free rns from a couple years ago that i bought in theory as running shoes, but i decided the soles are too flexible for me to like them for that. they look pretty good, though, so i've just been wearing them for daily use lately.

circles, Sunday, 8 July 2018 16:37 (six years ago) link

yeah its tough, especially considering shoes companies nonsensical need to tinker with their designs constantly, you find something you like then have to go digging for more on ebay cause the new versions are fd up

sprout god (lag∞n), Sunday, 8 July 2018 16:40 (six years ago) link

it would take traumatic brain injury to get me to switch from Brooks for running. Other brands can approximate the for and comfort but blow up after 150 miles while Brooks will have another 150 left

i was still wearing air max 97s (mine are black and gray) but now it's too hot for them... and the air max 270s which i also really like are always sold out in my size in all the cool colors. ugh. why do nike frees get uglier every year?

i saw pete carroll wears the nike monarchs from that article posted upthread, but my question is.. what about jim harbaugh? is jim harbaugh fashion?

¯\_(🏈 )_/¯ (daria-g), Monday, 9 July 2018 01:30 (six years ago) link

after a few years of nb 574's i decided to take a break from that brand because i feel weird supporting them (lol i'm sure all of these companies are the same but ¯\_(╯︵╰,)_/¯ ) and i ended up with what might be my new go-tos for the next 10 years. got these reebok classic leathers and i love the way they feel. thing is they're all black and i haven't had all black sneakers in forever and i feel like i don't know what to wear them with & that they kinda look like "food services" shoes

sprout god (lag∞n), Monday, 9 July 2018 18:12 (six years ago) link

i went back & forth btwn white and black and went for black bc i already have a pair of white sneaks that i wear from time to time (altho they're not as sharp these days, might replace them in the next year or so). still one of my most favourite looking pairs i've ever owned.

I really need new sneakers (the onitsukas I wear all the time are shot) and I can't find the adidas that I want online. But in the meantime I think I am getting these. Does anyone know who Bill is though (I am stupid). https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AGQMTS8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AG670YE9WDQRF&psc=1

Yerac, Friday, 27 July 2018 16:37 (six years ago) link

wow i love those! Bill is apparently referring to paper currency btw

antisocal (rip van wanko), Friday, 27 July 2018 16:41 (six years ago) link

It would be more fun if the other sneaker said LAW

El Tomboto, Friday, 27 July 2018 16:44 (six years ago) link

As long as Bill isn't a wife beater, I am getting them.

Yerac, Friday, 27 July 2018 17:39 (six years ago) link

I bought my yellow onitsukas a year before Kill Bill came out and then stopped wearing them because they were the Kill Bill shoes (plus I coincidentally drove a yellow pickup truck). I only restarted wearing them again 2 years ago. I want my shoes to mostly be association free.

Yerac, Friday, 27 July 2018 17:41 (six years ago) link

bill russell would be my guess

InfoWarriors (Spottie), Friday, 27 July 2018 17:49 (six years ago) link

rip van wanko is correct based on the product description

El Tomboto, Friday, 27 July 2018 19:00 (six years ago) link

I just read that now! Does that mean the other shoe has $100 on it? Hmmm.

Yerac, Friday, 27 July 2018 19:04 (six years ago) link

i bought some roshe ones in all black because they were reasonably affordable and understated and were so on-trend a few years back that they're now passé enough for me not to seem like I'm trying hard when I'm wearing them, but now I'm wishing i'd bought some loud ugly stupid dadcore statement kicks instead :c

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Friday, 27 July 2018 19:06 (six years ago) link

Oh man, I found them. Yeah it does say $100 on the other shoe.

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 1 August 2018 03:07 (six years ago) link

I much prefer the totally minimal unbranded look as far as styles you have to pay a premium for. I've finally decided that if I was rich enough to drop four bills on a pair of sneakers, I would definitely spend it on some white Common Projects Original Achilles Low. There's just nothing better in their class.

beard papa, Wednesday, 1 August 2018 03:27 (six years ago) link

I guess I'll never understand. If I have hundreds of dollars to spend on shoes (and as my posts show, over the years, I have had, and done so) I'm just going to get as many different, uh, colorways of something that's comfortable and wearable out and about, to the beach or the office or on a so-called urban hike. I could have been an adidas or an asics or, god forbid, even an NB guy, but it ended up being the chuck schtick. I'd feel ridiculous spending all of that money on one or two pairs because then I'd be like OOH CAREFUL THE SHOES

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 1 August 2018 03:38 (six years ago) link

sorry for tiresome post trying to explain myself for the thousandth time on this thread

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 1 August 2018 03:39 (six years ago) link

I pretty much agree with you and I'm a huge Chuck Taylor fan, too. I always have at least one pair of 70s. I've never had a pair of sneakers as high quality as the Common Projects, but what I've heard is that they are made of such good materials that they are basically like dress shoe quality and durability, but super comfy. But yeah, maintenance is one thing that stops me from going down that road. I can't even take care of my one pair of boots.

beard papa, Wednesday, 1 August 2018 04:09 (six years ago) link

I think I'm just going to give up and buy 5 pairs of allbirds and never worry about shoes again

antisocal (rip van wanko), Wednesday, 1 August 2018 04:29 (six years ago) link

I'll support you as long as you get some funky loud colors on sale and don't pay full price for some neutral year-round nonsense

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 1 August 2018 04:33 (six years ago) link

I actually was thinking neutral because I didn't know they came in funky colors, but I'll investigate

antisocal (rip van wanko), Wednesday, 1 August 2018 04:36 (six years ago) link

btw can I borrow some money I can't afford 5 pairs

antisocal (rip van wanko), Wednesday, 1 August 2018 04:38 (six years ago) link

Speaking of nice Chucks on sale.. bunch of nice-looking low top 70s here. If they had the Blue Slates in my size I'd jump on them in a second.

beard papa, Wednesday, 1 August 2018 04:50 (six years ago) link

I went through a chucks, gola and onituska phase but my feet are just getting so flat that I think I need to go back to adidas or pumas. It is so hard to find nylon 70s, 80s aesthetic sneakers right now! I saw some nylon-y Adidas when I was on vacation but of course they didn't have them small enough for me. I think they are called City V Racer 2.0 and now I can't find the colors I want online (grey with red/orange stripes, or blue with red). Sneakers for just women are so shitty.

Yerac, Wednesday, 1 August 2018 14:25 (six years ago) link

those are hideous though

man, every time i see those balenciaga sneakers all i can think about is that they are the ugliest sneaker i have ever seen in my life, and then i try to figure out if that is the point. after all, ugliest of all time is itself a feat? man they look like shit tho

challops trap house (Will M.), Wednesday, 1 August 2018 14:54 (six years ago) link

I much prefer the totally minimal unbranded look as far as styles you have to pay a premium for.

when someone posted the "sneakers worn by sv millionaires" article i got to thinking just how boring i found that aesthetic to be. sneaker culture has a rich history with established forms silhouettes and colorways and part of the fun is mixing matching and playing with the established visual language. the lanvins common projects and golden goose all just look like generic shoes without much personality in and of themselves. that being said though, if i were a millionaire i would totally have some lanvins and cps in my closet

p.s. i love the balenciaga triple s fuck allbirds NB for lyfe

also ... i have a line on some affordable 999s but not sure i'm going to do it

i've never gone for 999s in the past, i'm not sure i appreciate their pointy-ness

too pointy is really the least of the problems in that pic

the way the cuff is tucked behind the tongue makes me feel ill
