Awww modcloth.com sundresses are cute. They're not very mod, but apparently that's beside the point. They're like a slightly less well designed but disproportionately MUCH MUCH CHEAPER version of Anthropologie.

Yeah I love that site.
I recently got and am wearing this dress right now:
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c287/expatrica/dress-1.jpg
In fact I've worn it oh about 3 times in the last week. It fits like a dream is so easy to wear and is so light it feels like I'm not wearing anything. In this heat that's important! It's a little more hippie-ish than I normally go for but I love it. Also, the colors are awesome.
― ENBB, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 14:09 (fifteen years ago) link
Quick glance at first page suggests that the dresses that are actually way mod are also priced around $170, which isn't actually cheaper than Anthropologie. But hey! Dresses!

OMG I swear I didn't fuck that up so it linked to a pug on purpose!
Yeah every dress i liked was $170-175 except for the silent surrealist dress ($50) but I look really bad in gray :(

There used to be someone recreating really mod dresses to size, to order. I had the site bookmarked 10 years ago, but left that job and have never been able to find it again, probably not still in business.
The dresses were all like those two: color-blocked, some with cut-outs or clear vinyl panels, etc. Never could afford to order one at the time, but I do love those two you put up, Erica!

Yeah, they're amazing!!
― ENBB, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 15:02 (fifteen years ago) link
i don't really like the mod dresses, but i love the more sort of summery/cutesy dresses on that site.
also: lol i thought you posted that link BECAUSE of the pug, erica!

i mean i don't think i really have occasion to wear them either, tbh
I wear dresses at home. I have specific sundress type ones that I only wear at home actually.
― \(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 23 September 2009 02:56 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah me too. one is kinda like the one you posted, but its like stretchy at the top and has like inch-wide straps. i wear it to do housework and chill and stuff like that. once i hiked in it.
― heave haw (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 23 September 2009 03:03 (fifteen years ago) link
Yeah, I do the same minus the hiking but should try that sometime.
― \(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 23 September 2009 03:06 (fifteen years ago) link
if you get the right dress it can be really freeing
― heave haw (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 23 September 2009 03:06 (fifteen years ago) link
the right type of dress/skirt is more comfortable to me than pants in general so I could easily see that being the case
― \(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Wednesday, 23 September 2009 03:07 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah i wear sundresses at home. but i feel like i have to be all put together if i wear a dress out of the house and then it feels too put together.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 23 September 2009 03:34 (fifteen years ago) link
thats what cardigans are for! sometimes a dress on its own needs like jewelry and nice shoes and stuff. but most dresses you can just throw a cute cardi over top and put on some sandals and you're good to go.
my MIL bought a dress last weekend: $!6 on sale from some fancy designer store. too conservative to bother posting on this thread tho ;)

Guys remember that fan dress (was it Derek Lam?) in the purple print that we all liked? Kelly Kapoor has worn it in multiple Office episodes! <3
― quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:41 (fourteen years ago) link
you are right!!
x-post But esp the firt pattern in pink w/ the buttons and the second pattern in general.
Man, I wish I knew how to sew.

So envious of your mad sewing skillz laurel!
― quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:42 (fourteen years ago) link
YESSSS oh that is a <3 <3 indeed re Derek Lam dress. Good for her! I'm glad someone admirable and awesome picked it up.
Thersa, I'm a little concerned about the Kors dress -- I like it but it might not define enough. Counting on the sleevelessness of the others to show some proportion, and I might not cut the McCall's one quite as full as it's shown.

Haha don't count my dresses before they're, uh...patched? There are a lot of steps in between here and there....

Laurel, can I commission you to make one of those dresses for me?
― Virginia Plain, Sunday, 8 November 2009 16:55 (fourteen years ago) link
Maybe! I have to get to Thanksgiving weekend before I have time to think about sewing, and then I have to make something for myself, to get my hand in. Which one were you thinking of, Mary?

I'm loving the shapes of the Butternick white with pockets and pink with buttons.
