tiffany charmbracelets. $425 a charm

Surmounter, Thursday, 7 August 2008 16:26 (seventeen years ago)

i usually wear something, every day. today i'm wearing a white leather wristcuff with some silver something on it. i don't know if that counts. bracelets are a big thing for me. and i need to get more earings in a very urgent way.

Surmounter, Thursday, 7 August 2008 16:34 (seventeen years ago)

Bling Closby.

libcrypt, Thursday, 7 August 2008 16:55 (seventeen years ago)

okay, guys, i am looking for a certain kind of necklace. i'm sure these necklaces have a name, but i don't know what it is. they're kind of vintage-looking and rather than having a single pendant, they have three evenly spaced pendant-like things, often flower-shaped. dr. cuddy on house sometimes wears a silver one. worst description ever, i know, but has anyone seen one for sale? i don't even know how to search for one online since i don't know what they're called.

horseshoe, Thursday, 7 August 2008 18:09 (seventeen years ago)

i don't know their name or if they have one but i love that style too

i am wearing no bling today because i've been going to yoga class first thing in the morning and so of course don't put jewelery on and forget to put it in my bag.

i've really been into bracelets lately, esp this thin green & gold(coloured) bangle-style bracelet i have. not v blingy tho.

rrrobyn, Thursday, 7 August 2008 18:19 (seventeen years ago)

the owner of a vintage clothing store that i am acquainted with (his name is michael aka pr1nc3ss p3arl) pronounces it "neck-lace" as opposed to "neckliss" which made me wonder if anyone else pronounces the compound word like that

elmo argonaut, Thursday, 7 August 2008 18:56 (seventeen years ago)

No idea! Never heard of such a thing!

Laurel, Thursday, 7 August 2008 19:04 (seventeen years ago)

Something like...this?

Laurel, Thursday, 7 August 2008 20:22 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, sort of, Laurel! for some reason i think the pendanty things in the neckare more like brooches than pendants...like they are fastened in the middle rather than at the top, or fastened by several strands so that they seem more part of the chain than hanging from it. and the necklaces sit pretty high on the neck--not melrose place chokers quite, but not quite as long as that one.

guys i have done so many google searches trying to find out where House got that necklace they have Lisa Edelstein wear sometimes.

horseshoe, Thursday, 7 August 2008 20:59 (seventeen years ago)

"in the necklaces i'm thinking about are more like brooches" is what i meant

horseshoe, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:00 (seventeen years ago)

they don't sit high on your neck--that would be weird; they sit high on your clavicle-area. jesus i need a picture, don't i.

horseshoe, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:02 (seventeen years ago)

Words, thousand, et cetera

Laurel, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:04 (seventeen years ago)

okay on an unrelated note, i wish my everyday fashion was such that it would be appropriate to wear with indian jewelry:

http://www.shahji.com/ProductImages/16/160099b.jpg

i also wish i could afford it but that almost seems seconday.

horseshoe, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:12 (seventeen years ago)

delicious. simply delicious.

Surmounter, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:15 (seventeen years ago)

<3 Surmounter, i have a feeling we share similarly exquisite taste when it comes to jewelry.

horseshoe, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:16 (seventeen years ago)

horseshoe, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:19 (seventeen years ago)

that one's demure! almost understated!

horseshoe, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:20 (seventeen years ago)

hmm, i have a necklace kind of like that, it's 40's vintage.. just costume jewelry.. but maybe looking through 40's vintage necklaces on ebay you'd find something in that style?

daria-g, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:22 (seventeen years ago)

i mean like the one with three pendants, sorry

daria-g, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:23 (seventeen years ago)

thanks, daria, i had no idea what era that kind of necklace was from, so that's helpful!

horseshoe, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:25 (seventeen years ago)

i'm not an expert but it looks 40's style to me.. those charm necklaces that were all the rage in the 80's were actually inspired by bakelite/plastic jewelry from the 40's, a lot of that seemed to have the style of a fairly large chain w/several pendants on it. maybe late 40's early 50's even

daria-g, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:31 (seventeen years ago)

maybe "bib necklace" is the term you want?
<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ANTIQUE-ART-NOUVEAU-SILVER-ABALONE-SHELL-BIB-NECKLACE_W0QQitemZ380051556620QQihZ025QQcategoryZ10967QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem";>like this</a>

daria-g, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:38 (seventeen years ago)

d'oh, stupid code.. how do i shot.. item -- 380051556620

daria-g, Thursday, 7 August 2008 21:39 (seventeen years ago)

that necklace is cool!

Surmounter, Friday, 8 August 2008 16:38 (seventeen years ago)

$$$?

Surmounter, Friday, 8 August 2008 16:38 (seventeen years ago)

I'm sort of "into" champagne diamonds because I think the marketing push to make them desirable has been coming from non-DeBeers holdings. I read some time ago that most diamonds labeled "champagne" have come from non-DeBeers mines in Australia and are considered cruelty-free (and not related to apartheid).

DB has skewed the market toward glorifying "colorless" diamonds but that's entirely their own construction. Glad to see anything that fucks them over.

Laurel, Friday, 8 August 2008 16:45 (seventeen years ago)

fuck debeers.

or black diamonds -- my girlfriend got a black diamond engagement ring! really pretty.

Surmounter, Friday, 8 August 2008 16:47 (seventeen years ago)

The Argyle mine is the largest raw diamond producer in the world, but a low percentage of its yield (around 5%) is gem-quality. The worldwide average yield of gem-quality diamonds is around 20%. The remaining 95% of Argyle's production is classified as "near gem quality" and "industrial grade".

Arglye is owned by Anglo-Australian mining titan, the Rio Tinto Group (60% ownership), which also owns stakes in the Diavik Diamond Mine in Canada and the Murowa diamond mine in Zimbabwe. Ashton Mining has the remaining 40% ownership. In 1996 Argyle turned the De Beers distribution monopoly on its head by going-it-alone, bypassing De Beers' Diamond Trading Company DTC/Sightholder wholesale network, selling directly to the Antwerp diamond trade.

$$$?

its about $250usd maybe? i could prolly swing a discount though, heh

phil-two, Friday, 8 August 2008 17:23 (seventeen years ago)

ha, i like that. is there a good place to view their jewelry online? the website almost triggered a seizure.

lauren, Friday, 8 August 2008 17:27 (seventeen years ago)

I bought some bling the other week, but it isn't actually sparkly. It is just very, very blue. If it weren't somewhat fragile I wd wear it 94/7, but alas it goes back in the padded box. <3 <3 <3

My First Bling

One Community Service Mummy, hold the Straightedge Merman (Laurel), Thursday, 4 December 2008 15:09 (seventeen years ago)

I am coveting much bling on Etsy (I am a cheapass, big deal) including necklaces with wrenches, abacuses, handsaws, little bottles of poison and sparrows.

My dad's a jeweller and in fifth grade he made me this beautiful necklace - a miniature silver Gibson guitar with tiny rubies and diamonds used for the knobs, complete with real guitar strings. My first bling!

skeletal lexing (Finefinemusic), Friday, 5 December 2008 20:39 (seventeen years ago)

um, Laurel's last post obviously got into my subconscious there.. Damn.

blign advice needed here yall:

advice needed: best friendship necklace???

roxymuzak, Saturday, 6 December 2008 01:47 (seventeen years ago)

Not so much bling, but just jewelry. I'd like to wear more of it, but I never know what to buy. The cheap stuff looks too cheap to me (not a problem I have with clothes!), and I'm not sure if I invested in something more expensive that I would wear it. How to improve my jewelry IQ? Is Alex Bittar a good place to start?

Virginia Plain, Monday, 8 December 2008 05:15 (seventeen years ago)

Ahahahahh omg. Alexis Bittar is by and large GORGEOUS and wonderful, but too blingy for me! I know someone who knows someone who works there, but I don't think the discount will extend that far.
