OK so the L&T catalog that showed up yesterday included a handy PULL OUT CARD (I mean, really?) listing this year's fall/winter fashion mandates:
1) opulent purple 2) sweater dressing 3) the shaped jacket 4) the full skirt 5) crossbody bags 6) motocycle boots 7) the statement necklace 8) the beret 9) the bomber jacket 10) plaids & tweeds 11) the statement trench 12) scarf wraps
Which mandates will you heed? Which will you scorn? What other things will we be seeing? ILX Style needs to know!

For the record, I am down with 1, 3, 5, and 10.
― quincie, Friday, 29 August 2008 16:03 (seventeen years ago)
i like sweater dresses but few can pull it off
― sunny successor, Friday, 29 August 2008 16:04 (seventeen years ago)
i really want a belted turtleneck or cowlneck sweater dress of some sort.
― bell_labs, Friday, 29 August 2008 16:09 (seventeen years ago)
Purple is my least favorite color. I feel like I am dressing like some sort of spunky mom.
― Yerac, Friday, 29 August 2008 16:21 (seventeen years ago)
Do they have an example outfit incorporating all 12? Because I would like to see that.
― I DIED, Friday, 29 August 2008 16:45 (seventeen years ago)
i like purple, especially cobalt-blue purple. is that what they mean by opulent?
― bell_labs, Friday, 29 August 2008 16:49 (seventeen years ago)
tweeds for fall? how groundbreaking
― elmo argonaut, Friday, 29 August 2008 17:21 (seventeen years ago)
1) opulent purple
yay! i just got a beautifully purple shawl
― Surmounter, Friday, 29 August 2008 17:22 (seventeen years ago)
7) the statement necklace
one of these too!
seriously elmo.. and PLAID!
In for fall: heavier, warmer clothes!
that said I think I said before that I am very excited about purple. I never liked it before but as a redhead I find it really suits me. I bought a great purple t-shirt at H&M with button detail on the shoulders that I just love!
― Finefinemusic, Friday, 29 August 2008 17:24 (seventeen years ago)
11) the statement trench
v. gossip girl, this
― elmo argonaut, Friday, 29 August 2008 17:26 (seventeen years ago)
well.. i already wear plaids and tweeds all the time, and big scarves.. and a bright purple scarf and beret style hats in winter..
bomber jacket, sweater dress - would not wear
am a big fan of cropped trousers, ankle length.. have those on today and either they're cool or i look like a dork, not sure :) also, moccasins i kind of dig, i got a pair (minnetonka, super cheap) & then unfortunately discovered urban outfitters is selling them. for like over 2X as much

new for fall:
- top shop US site (shipping is still extortionate, though))- top shop US in nyc (november?)- comme des garcons for H&M (november?)
― lauren, Wednesday, 10 September 2008 20:34 (seventeen years ago)
I was accidentally a year ahead of the trend on motorcycle boots, it was the soonest I could convince my parents to buy them for me ($200 price tag kind of a problem).
All my necklaces are statement necklaces. :) What, I should wear real precious metals, perhaps from Tiffany's? I'll leave that for the Long Island set.
Half of the things on this list are just "in", ie someone needed to fill magazine pages. For example as Elmo said, really? Tweed? You can't be serious. In other words I'll dress exactly the same as I do already! Thanks for the run-down, though, it's fun to see.

You guys I really missed I Love Style! I might have some extra venom to get quit of, from all the build-up.
― Laurel, Wednesday, 10 September 2008 20:50 (seventeen years ago)
I am kind of into the wrap/geometric cardigan sweater, though. I feel like I've seen a number of various odd drapey things, almost shawls, that are technically open in the front. I back it.
― Laurel, Wednesday, 10 September 2008 20:54 (seventeen years ago)
i love odd, drapey things, as long as they're at least slightly fitted. if that makes any sense.
― lauren, Wednesday, 10 September 2008 20:58 (seventeen years ago)
i missed this board so much!
i am having a fall fashion crisis right now because i can not purchase any additional items for at least 2 weeks but i have already changed five times today and still do not feel fit to leave the house :( which i need to do in... 25 minutes.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 10 September 2008 21:16 (seventeen years ago)
topshop us site is offering free shipping for a week (usfreepostagets01)!
the kate moss fall 08 collection is atrocious, btw.
― lauren, Thursday, 11 September 2008 15:44 (seventeen years ago)
i missed i love style toooo!
i wanted to tell you all that i bought new underwear! which is a lol thing to want to tell abti also bought heather blue tights at h&m yesterday b/c my legs were cold. they are pretty cute :) btw h&m, which just opened in downtown montreal a few weeks ago (yeah i know it took a while wtf), is only a block from my new workplace eek. a big electronics store is also in that block. i am making no more money than i made at previous job located in middle of nowhereland. must be careful! tho i find that h&m is very hit and miss, some weeks good, some weeks not so.
― in a sexual way (rrrobyn), Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:34 (seventeen years ago)
definitely. i bought this shirt there a few weeks ago and after one washing it is basically unwearable.
oooh that top shop stuff looks nice! anyone have experience w/ fit?
― tehresa, Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:39 (seventeen years ago)
btw this is definitely the best season in the world for dude's clothing
― Patrick Leahy, (D)-VT (deej), Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:40 (seventeen years ago)
that is exciting! i have hardly looked at guys' clothing options this season but i have some guy friends who want to go shopping, so maybe i should pay more attn.
― in a sexual way (rrrobyn), Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:43 (seventeen years ago)
i think topshop stuff runs slightly small, except for skirts, but it's been quite a while since i bought anything.
― lauren, Thursday, 11 September 2008 18:16 (seventeen years ago)
Why is this the best season in the world for dude's clothing? I just see the usual stuff, at least here in NYC.
― the return of (burt_stanton), Thursday, 11 September 2008 19:42 (seventeen years ago)
I predict conical hobbit hats will be all the rage this fall

xpost Why is this the best season in the world for dude's clothing [..]I think he meant the season, as in fall, not as in fall 2008. At least, that's how I read it.
― Finefinemusic, Friday, 12 September 2008 18:41 (seventeen years ago)
oh yeah, fall rules. I've already broken out my musty old wool sweaters and hooded rain jackets (or "anoraks" for you fruity brits)
― the return of (burt_stanton), Friday, 12 September 2008 19:05 (seventeen years ago)
hahahaanoraks
― Bright Future (sunny successor), Friday, 12 September 2008 19:06 (seventeen years ago)
i can not WAIT to wear fall clothes! layering! jackets! v-neck sweaters! (which i will never, ever give up regardless of style trends)
― tehresa, Friday, 12 September 2008 19:16 (seventeen years ago)
need some new rain boots. are those plastic ones gonna be in long enough to invest in a new pair? i threw my old ones out bc they broke and were from 2002.
Oh hai there it is fall now. What are we wearing this year?
― quincie, Thursday, 15 October 2009 19:42 (sixteen years ago)

― hyperstudio (skeletor), Thursday, 15 October 2009 19:53 (sixteen years ago)
