Surmounter, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 21:22 (seventeen years ago)

okay but i need some kind of oil based concealer, you know sometimes the other stuff doesn't cut it. do they still do that?

Surmounter, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 21:24 (seventeen years ago)

i asked this a while ago but i don't remember. sometimes the water-based, they flake

Surmounter, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 21:25 (seventeen years ago)

if you want industrial strength, go for dermablend.

lauren, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 21:26 (seventeen years ago)

benefit's boi-oing is pretty intense.

bell_labs, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 21:27 (seventeen years ago)

it is! it dried up on me, though - bah.

lauren, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 21:28 (seventeen years ago)

boi-oing is a very strange name for a concealer =P ok great thx for suggestions

Surmounter, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 21:36 (seventeen years ago)

still reppin' for the neutrogena eye concealer w/ spf 20

tehresa, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 21:36 (seventeen years ago)

ok i have to try that cuz mine is not exciting

Surmounter, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 21:39 (seventeen years ago)

and actually eye concealer is one of my favorite makeup items

Surmounter, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 21:39 (seventeen years ago)

I have found my holy grail concealer. It's called Time Balm by The Balm and it's AWESOME. I have deep set eyes with dark circles and I've never found anything this good.

hmm, that stuff looks interesting, enbb! if i order it online and hate it can i take it back to a real sephora?

i also have consistent dark circles pretty much no matter what. as i get older the tiny lines don't help. at the moment, my favorite is biotherm's forget it

the problem is that they don't seem to exist in real life anymore, so you have to take a gamble on the color. i got my first tube in sephora in paris so know my color (20, surprisingly as i think i got crazy pale when i got my UK passport), but it might be hard to figure out otherwise. i'd still like something a bit more hefty so may look into your suggestion...

I think Sephora is supposed to be really good about returns so I don't see why not!

It's heavy but moist and really does sink into your skin and blend nicely. The coverage is great and a little goes a looooong way. I have a feeling the little pot will last for ages. I asked one of the Sephora ladies if I should get the Timebalm or a Make-up forever one and she said without hesitation that the TB was the best concealer they sold! So far I'd have to agree.

ENBB, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 14:46 (seventeen years ago)

ps - I do not like the sponge it comes with because it lays it on too think. I think application with a little brush is much better.

ENBB, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 14:47 (seventeen years ago)

when i tried the tester of TB, i thought it was way too thick and cakey so i ended up getting the make-up forever lift concealer.

lauren, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 15:07 (seventeen years ago)

The tester that I saw was gross too - I think it was dried out which is why I asked the woman. She assured me it wasn't so I went with it. It is thick but you just just a small amount and it blends right in and is really moist - no caking at all even when reapplied later in the day!!! The MUFE lift (which you've mentioned to me before) was the other one I asked her about.

I promise I do not work for The Balm.

two weeks pass...

okay so i haven't gotten my new concealer yet, but i did get the neutrogena undereye concealer and i like it! it looks good on me.

Surmounter, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 18:32 (seventeen years ago)

i have trouble sometimes with undereye concealer, like any more than the tiniest of dabs is way too much

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 21:15 (seventeen years ago)

plz to furnish advice on how best to apply undereye concealah

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 21:16 (seventeen years ago)

well as i've disclosed before: apply undereye cream first for moisture, then apply veeery little concealer. i'm talking dabs. smooth in with concealer. sometimes if i'm feeling really crazy i finish it off with another dab of cream for shine. i know.

Surmounter, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 21:23 (seventeen years ago)

still reppin' for the neutrogena eye concealer w/ spf 20
here too! that stuff, for the price, works plenty well enough for me.

i have been applying concealer with my ring finger since...1986? that's what my mom told me, that it's the weakest finger and won't hurt your eyes. in 6th grade (when, thanks to fashion magazines, i became concerned with undereye circles) i wasn't too worried about tugging at the skin, but 22 years later i sure am.

concealer on the finger, dot dot dot around the eye, blend with a gentle touch.

not sure there is a better way though?

La Lechera, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 21:24 (seventeen years ago)

ring finger and pinky otm.

dot dot dots otm too :)

Surmounter, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 21:26 (seventeen years ago)

the fact that i have been concerned with undereye circles for 2/3 of my life is somewhat disturbing to me, now that i look at the numbers.

three weeks pass...

Okay guys, I am constantly disappointed by concealer... it always seems to vanish the second I put it on. Basically it looks so natural I may as well not be wearing concealer.. except that my face looks a little greasy (which is solved with some pressed powder on top.)
I've run out of both my concealer and powder, so I have to get some this weekend, and I was most recently using Quo concealer and Cover Girl loose powder, neither of which terribly impressed me. I know this is counter to everyone else's usual requests but I kind of want something a little thicker, that will actually smooth on and even out my complexion rather than disappearing into my pink skin? Any suggestions would be very welcome..

Finefinemusic, Thursday, 24 July 2008 15:44 (seventeen years ago)

oh and I have the Smashbox primer stuff, which I like, but I don't have a good enough concealer to put on top, you know? :P

Finefinemusic, Thursday, 24 July 2008 15:45 (seventeen years ago)

Hey A - see my recs upthread for The Balm's Time Balm. Sounds like it might be the type of thing you're looking for.

http://www.thebalm.com/makeup/timebalm.htm

It says it's just for undereyes but I use it everywhere. I would def suggest applying sparingly with a brush and just chuck the sponge you get with it. It lays it on too thick.

ENBB, Thursday, 24 July 2008 15:50 (seventeen years ago)

Woohoo! I did see that rec above but I figured I should just outline my beefs and my desires and see what people thought of. How big is that tub? It looks so small... I am used to buying little jars of liquid stuff :)

But hey - thanks to you I have that Urban Behaviour eyeshadow primer, so I know to trust you!

Finefinemusic, Thursday, 24 July 2008 15:57 (seventeen years ago)

It is on the small side but a little goes a long way and it lasts ages.

ENBB, Thursday, 24 July 2008 16:04 (seventeen years ago)

my mom gave me a tube of concealer once, from Gabriel Cosmetics? and i actually love it. here is their website
