I don't think I own anything orange or yellow which is weird because I like both colors.

I've been looking for something in the perfect red-orange with blue undertones, can't quite find the right color.. any other orange looks awful on me.

thanks! my version has short sleeves and a deep V in both the front and back. i can't for the life of me find a picture, unfortunately. i am always trying to insist that people can wear full-on orange, but if you can't, you can't.

yeah, i never wear long dresses because i am lol short, but i think it is okay as long as the dress is all slutty up top to compensate.

that dress is beautiful, yeah. i think you should definitely get an old navy version, except i just tried to find one on their website and couldn't. but i see that style of dress all over the place these days.

i am also slightly worried about the maternity-wear aspect of this style, but i guess that's not a big deal in island paradise, right?

i think the well-draped ones don't make you look pregnant. the thing that worries me about them is how it looks like it would be hard to wear a supportive bra with them? unless you have a good strapless one. but if you're wearing it on the beach chances are you're wearing a bathing suit underneath.

Grr I have an ankle-length halter-neck Maggie London dress with a V-neck that plunges down to the Empire-waist, but never any chances to wear it. Not okay for work.

yeah the bra thing is annoying. also i prefer the shoulder straps on the first dress to the halter on old navy's.

i think that's the kind of hem where you have to try it on to see if it works. it's a pretty color combination. also, i feel 15 years old even suggesting this, but they have these dresses at Express, too. probably a bit more expensive than at old navy, annoyingly.

haha yeah i feel like all these kinds of dresses, at least the cheaper varieties, are made for B cup and smaller and if you're anything bigger, suddenly the slutty factor of a cute dress goes way up. which i guess is fine but not for work, tho i guess depends on where you work. i have a couple of nice brooches/pins for de-sluttifying purposes.

also good addition to make a lot of empire-waist dresses less puffy/billowy in the front is to tie a scarf or sash just above yr waist. which also makes the dress look more styley or $ than it actually is, i have found.

also i think that statement is further proof that i was born too late. i should be like, 35 or 40 now instead of 26. whenever i read bazaar's 'style at every age' section i am always much more drawn to the older, more polished looks than the crap you are supposed to wear for the season if you are in yr 20s - that stuff ends up looking like tacky threw up all over a clothing factory.

Nautical is one of those things that "comes back" every 2 or 3 years, though. It's how fashion eds/writers/rags stay in business.

I'm guessing he's borrowing it. I've seen this guy every season at the fashion weeks that I go to - maybe he works at a magazine or is a stylist and borrowed it or something. There's no way he spent, actually you're right, its probably at least $2000, on that. Anyways its a great top, just obvs not so much on him. Daaamn, this is too gay even for me.

i agree it doesn't look that great on him but the idea of taking that crazy structured difficult-to-wear piece that only is supposed to go with total look (right? i think even in editorials they aren't allowed to mix it up, except maybe paris vogue get a pass).. and wearing it with shorts and a tshirt and carrying a hamburger, that is pretty awesome.
