yellow everywhere. i like it, but it makes me look bilious.
― lauren, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 21:36 (seventeen years ago)
lots of oranges, too, which is good.
― lauren, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 21:37 (seventeen years ago)
yellow and my skin tone are not friends.

― tehresa, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 21:38 (seventeen years ago)
Yellow makes a good shoe.
― Laurel, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 22:18 (seventeen years ago)
with this i whole-heartedly agree!
― tehresa, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 22:19 (seventeen years ago)
i am afraid of yellow because i do not want to die by bees. i have one orange t-shirt that i love enough to risk bee-death, tho.
― gabbneb, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 22:22 (seventeen years ago)
I don't think I own anything orange or yellow which is weird because I like both colors.
― ENBB, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 22:38 (seventeen years ago)
I've been looking for something in the perfect red-orange with blue undertones, can't quite find the right color.. any other orange looks awful on me.
― daria-g, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 22:47 (seventeen years ago)
Daria, you need topshop.co.uk, that colour sounds like my shoes from there and their favourite persimmon-orange colourway.
― suzy, Tuesday, 17 June 2008 23:33 (seventeen years ago)
yeah.. topshop.. I hesitate to order from there b/c I bet returns are a pain (also I am lazy about mailing stuff back).. will investigate. persimmon sounds nice. I prefer something really bright..
― daria-g, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 00:01 (seventeen years ago)
I just went to drag and display an item with the colour in question and it won't allow it.

That is how I like to write 'clothes'
damn. I found two things I like at topshop.. approx total cost in the states? $200. hell no
I do like this dress and this top though. kind of ugly in a cool way

daria, i love the blouse! dunno about that dress though, heh
― phil-two, Saturday, 21 June 2008 21:58 (seventeen years ago)
yellow eh? I have an ugly ass mustard yellow polo shirt from the early 80s I might bring out of retirement then.
― burt_stanton, Saturday, 21 June 2008 22:02 (seventeen years ago)
tehresa it is this print, but ankle length and with a different neck altogether:

― horseshoe, Saturday, 21 June 2008 22:06 (seventeen years ago)
oh wow!! i would have to have a purple base w/ orange accents because full-on orange on me would be awful, but it is really fun! i think i would actually like it better ankle length. what is the neck like?
― tehresa, Saturday, 21 June 2008 22:07 (seventeen years ago)
thanks! my version has short sleeves and a deep V in both the front and back. i can't for the life of me find a picture, unfortunately. i am always trying to insist that people can wear full-on orange, but if you can't, you can't.
yeah, i never wear long dresses because i am lol short, but i think it is okay as long as the dress is all slutty up top to compensate.
― horseshoe, Saturday, 21 June 2008 22:11 (seventeen years ago)
I haven't worn a t-shirt in public in years. Do people still do this? I just bought some striped American Apparel tee that doesn't look too shabby.
― burt_stanton, Saturday, 21 June 2008 22:18 (seventeen years ago)
dresses need to be half-slutty i cant stress this enough
― max, Saturday, 21 June 2008 22:19 (seventeen years ago)

ladies and gentl oh forget it

I don't know, after you graduate college it's basically collared shirts, unless you're a graphic designer or something.

(hint: that was a joke)
(hint: jokes are usually funny)

half-slutty is totally my rule of thumb for dress-buying! also hi max where u been?
― horseshoe, Saturday, 21 June 2008 22:25 (seventeen years ago)
No need to be a dick, Lamp, and being tongue in cheek is different from telling some friggin knee slapper. Maybe I'll fart on someone, you'll probably find that more amusing.

― max, Sunday, 22 June 2008 01:36 (seventeen years ago)
glad to hear youre still sluttin up chi-town tho!!!!
so maxi dresses: in. i am lusting after things like this <img src=http://cache.net-a-porter.com/images/products/28413/28413_in_l.jpg> for my hawaii trip but don't have $130 to drop right now (i know it seems like not that bad, but i r broke). do i go to old navy and get one of their knock offs?
― tehresa, Monday, 23 June 2008 18:51 (seventeen years ago)
oh bbcodepaws... http://cache.net-a-porter.com/images/products/28413/28413_in_l.jpg
that dress is beautiful, yeah. i think you should definitely get an old navy version, except i just tried to find one on their website and couldn't. but i see that style of dress all over the place these days.
― horseshoe, Monday, 23 June 2008 18:56 (seventeen years ago)
i am also slightly worried about the maternity-wear aspect of this style, but i guess that's not a big deal in island paradise, right?
― tehresa, Monday, 23 June 2008 18:57 (seventeen years ago)
i think the well-draped ones don't make you look pregnant. the thing that worries me about them is how it looks like it would be hard to wear a supportive bra with them? unless you have a good strapless one. but if you're wearing it on the beach chances are you're wearing a bathing suit underneath.
― horseshoe, Monday, 23 June 2008 18:58 (seventeen years ago)
Grr I have an ankle-length halter-neck Maggie London dress with a V-neck that plunges down to the Empire-waist, but never any chances to wear it. Not okay for work.
― Laurel, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:03 (seventeen years ago)
yeah the bra thing is annoying. also i prefer the shoulder straps on the first dress to the halter on old navy's.
http://www.oldnavy.com/Asset_Archive/ONWeb/Assets/Product/485/485828/main/on485828-01p01v01.jpg
― tehresa, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:04 (seventeen years ago)
i also do not like the weird length there, but maybe beggars can't be choosers.
― tehresa, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:05 (seventeen years ago)
i think that's the kind of hem where you have to try it on to see if it works. it's a pretty color combination. also, i feel 15 years old even suggesting this, but they have these dresses at Express, too. probably a bit more expensive than at old navy, annoyingly.
― horseshoe, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:07 (seventeen years ago)
i can pretty much guarantee there is no way my boobs would fit into an express dress.
― tehresa, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:09 (seventeen years ago)
i love that. that's kind of a cool hem
― Surmounter, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:10 (seventeen years ago)
haha yeah i feel like all these kinds of dresses, at least the cheaper varieties, are made for B cup and smaller and if you're anything bigger, suddenly the slutty factor of a cute dress goes way up. which i guess is fine but not for work, tho i guess depends on where you work. i have a couple of nice brooches/pins for de-sluttifying purposes.
also good addition to make a lot of empire-waist dresses less puffy/billowy in the front is to tie a scarf or sash just above yr waist. which also makes the dress look more styley or $ than it actually is, i have found.
― rrrobyn, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:18 (seventeen years ago)
oooh excellent tip! i love belting :)
― tehresa, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:23 (seventeen years ago)
Mine has an actual waistband, and on me it's like an ankle-length sundress (unlike on this sort of trashy model):

this one is called the maui maxi dress. i think i should get it bc i am going to maui. who wants to give me $445?

― tehresa, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:28 (seventeen years ago)
sooo pretty
― Surmounter, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:29 (seventeen years ago)
omg love + i think you could actually wear a strapless bra with that.
― horseshoe, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:30 (seventeen years ago)
also i think the maui in maui logic is impeccable.
dfv is always the greatest.
― tehresa, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:33 (seventeen years ago)
also i think that statement is further proof that i was born too late. i should be like, 35 or 40 now instead of 26. whenever i read bazaar's 'style at every age' section i am always much more drawn to the older, more polished looks than the crap you are supposed to wear for the season if you are in yr 20s - that stuff ends up looking like tacky threw up all over a clothing factory.
― tehresa, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:35 (seventeen years ago)
i am incurably tacky and will probably be so when i am 80, but a well-made dress is undeniable.
― horseshoe, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:37 (seventeen years ago)
i know i have raged about the adult romper trend, but i bought this dress from APC that is almost romper-like (no shorts though) and i heart it http://www.aweebitskint.com/images/2008/01/27/overall_dress.png and yes i wore it with kneesocks last night. i know, i know.
― bell_labs, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:38 (seventeen years ago)
I'm going for the William F. Buckley in Summer look, so I just bought a Lacoste polo shirt. Either Buckley or Clark Griswald in National Lampoon's Vacation.
― burt_stanton, Monday, 23 June 2008 22:09 (seventeen years ago)
Wow, I just realized I'm wearing what I wore when I was a kid in the early 90s - straight leg jeans, Lacoste polo shirt, and so forth.

this blond girl on the plane, notwithstanding the fact that she actually said to her friend "yah yesterday we pulled out onto the tarmac and then they were like JK! LOL! and my flight was cancelled"
she was alll made up, nails, hair and everything, but then she had on this oversize white tshirt! very strange. she also had a pink boa scarf thing in her purse.

Aside from the ones everybody knows about (rompers, maxi dresses, gladiator sandals), I have been seeing a lot of
The color cobalt
Men's canvas or hemp flat espadrille-type shoes called Joe's or something. (p.s. these are horrible IMO).

Nautical is one of those things that "comes back" every 2 or 3 years, though. It's how fashion eds/writers/rags stay in business.
― Laurel, Monday, 30 June 2008 21:38 (seventeen years ago)

― phil-two, Monday, 30 June 2008 22:07 (seventeen years ago)
I know..! probably more? though depends on what currency he makes money in & where he spends it, I guess. assuming it was a purchase
― daria-g, Monday, 30 June 2008 23:18 (seventeen years ago)
the top is stunning, but the outfit doesn't fully work!
― Surmounter, Monday, 30 June 2008 23:19 (seventeen years ago)
i dont believe the top and hamburger bag really belong to that guy
― jhøshea, Monday, 30 June 2008 23:22 (seventeen years ago)
I'm guessing he's borrowing it. I've seen this guy every season at the fashion weeks that I go to - maybe he works at a magazine or is a stylist and borrowed it or something. There's no way he spent, actually you're right, its probably at least $2000, on that. Anyways its a great top, just obvs not so much on him. Daaamn, this is too gay even for me.
― phil-two, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 00:26 (seventeen years ago)
i agree it doesn't look that great on him but the idea of taking that crazy structured difficult-to-wear piece that only is supposed to go with total look (right? i think even in editorials they aren't allowed to mix it up, except maybe paris vogue get a pass).. and wearing it with shorts and a tshirt and carrying a hamburger, that is pretty awesome.
― daria-g, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 03:57 (seventeen years ago)
the hamburger bag makes everything all right.
i went to the balenciaga friends & family sale and they still had all the floral print stuff left, including this top. 60% off but i still dont think anyone was buying....
― phil-two, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 18:14 (seventeen years ago)
