aviators - cool or fool?

I would also like an answer to this query. Got accused a few weeks ago of looking like someone out of Hard Fi and was quite perturbed.

lots of factors here -- the aviator shape is neither inherently good or bad, and my opinion usually depends of the shape of the bridge, the color of the hardware, and the coating on the lens. they are good for driving, yes.

all of the aviators i've owned have been o.g. american optical deals from the army navy surplus.

sometimes the faded lenses make you look like a child molester; mirrored lenses almost always make you look like a cop.

i have this really crazy pair of aviator shades that are kind of small and circular and have the flaps on the side made of glass...they look like nazi glasses. i'm going to try to sell them to steampunks on ebay for $$.

are they glacier glasses?

Not that I object to coloured framed sunglasses, mine have red and brown frames.

aviators are timeless

nothing is timeless

i mean, aviators are definitely enduring in style for sure but they definitely can be placed on a timeline i.e. mid to late 1970s

i like the way aviators look, but push them up on top of my head when i walk indoors without thinking, and get my hair tangled in the nosepiece. ouch.

I probably mean the rayban wayfarer style thing that is going on rather than aviators, carry on.

regardless aviators are def not trend immune and deeznuts has just outed himself as being 16 years old

my mom bought me some aviators when i was like 10 and i remember they were so out of step w/ style at the time its not even funny

well deej since theyre either based on wwii fighterpilot fashion or 1920s roadster fashion that was kinda my point in starting this thread, that they always sort of straddle the line b/w coolery & geekery - i dont feel like theyve ever become trendy enough to become mockworthy, tho i could be wrong

Cool. 90% of this summer I wear either mirror aviators or black Wayfarers.

ok so deej is -technically- right. however they do in fact look like darkened versions of the 60s specs the indie/emo kids were copping. id stick w/ aviators personally, not just because of the indie/emo connection but because they just fucking look cooler - i dont need to name check a soul for evidence of that.

otm-- i prefer the ones that are more rounded at the bottom as opposed to pointy like the ones in the picture posted up thread

I canned the aviators for wayfarers. I find them much more comfortable on my face.

Also i look fuking awesome.

They had an excellent pair of white frames with black sides--very two-tone--but the mirrored lenses seemed a bit extreme.

yeah sunny it was too late but i saw a movie recently w/ owen wilson in not mirrored aviators & thats good enough for me
