Halloween Style

I would like to dress up for work and I need something relatively kid-friendly and/or literary, and the other day I though of being Trixie from Speed Racer, because it is cute, timely, and there are movie and kid's book tie-ins (we carry a spin-off series). Does anyone know where I could get tight red capris? There is actually a Trixie costume you can buy but it looks really ugly and unflattering. Any other ideas for me? Alice in Wonderland? Pippi Longstocking? Or something scary--in case we read ghost stories? (I think I'm gonna have a party for the kids). What will you be for Halloween if you dress up? Is Trixie too obvious a choice this year?

I want to look like this:

I don't want to look like this:

For the 4th consecutive year, I will repeatedly assert, to the annoyance of all around me, that this will be the year that I will be Guy with Pubic Hair Stuck in his Teeth.

Haha I had the perfect dress for it that I wore out with Laurel one night but it was too short and I felt awkward on the subway and when I got home I realized I had left the tags on it and I later returned it. It was a gingham shirt dress--black and white, with puff sleeves and mid-thigh full skirt. Once I went to work in a red gingham blouse and jean skirt and a patron told me I looked like Dorothy so maybe I should go for that.

I'd also like to dress up but can't think of any notable redheads other than Joan from Mad Men (who I can't pull off) and David Bowie as Aladdin Sane (who I may be able to..)

H & M had all of my base Trixie needs: tight red jeans and and a pink and white striped top with a side tie. Now I just need: an "M" for Michi to pin on to the top, a white helmet and goggles (!), binoculars (?), white gloves, possibly red shoes, and a black bob wig. H & M also had a hot pink satin-y track jacket with 3/4 length sleeves, which might be necessary due to fall weather, but I wasn't ready to invest in that.

I did. Was that a mistake? I thought we agreed it was too short. However, I've seen it in stores recently so I could buy it back I suppose.

I dressed as Trixie today. Found calf-length red sweats at H&M, that could look like capris if you sprint.

it sounds too cute to return! i share laurel's outrage!!!

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Saturday, 1 November 2008 02:09 (seventeen years ago)

OK, I'll check H&M or For21 (forget who had it) to see if I can buy it back. Maybe it's on sale now.

because of halloween i have learned these style things!:

- a friend (stylist) plucked a few eyebrow hairs from ends of eyebrows and my whole face looks (v slightly) different!

- make-up is awesome!! esp when you are tired and feel not-so-pretty. i am going to buy some of that bright pink mac blush - it makes me look like i just came in from the cold! weird how a neon looking blush can be so pretty on actual face

- my hair is capable of being huuuge - i guess i just never grasped the concept of teasing and hairspray before

- i can function all night in 3" heels and feel no pain (if followed up next day by lots of hamstring stretches)

- that my girls r stylin awesomes:

i think it is no accident that my two current blush colors are called "quickie" and "orgasm".

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Sunday, 2 November 2008 16:56 (seventeen years ago)
