I just watched that Swedish movie last weekend and everyone -- EVERYONE -- wanders around indoors wearing at least one if not two giant hand-knitty sweaters. It looks cozy until you realize it probably means that it's only 57 degrees indoors.

One Community Service Mummy, hold the Straightedge Merman (Laurel), Friday, 5 December 2008 16:26 (sixteen years ago)

wow, baaderonixx, you kinda scare me... hope I won't EVER see you wearing one of these !

AleXTC, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:28 (sixteen years ago)

I love these things! I'd like to find one with some patterned deers, altho tbh that one is a bit too intense.

baaderonixx, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:42 (sixteen years ago)

Also it looks like a hoodie

baaderonixx, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:43 (sixteen years ago)

Hmm

La Push It (Susan), Friday, 5 December 2008 16:44 (sixteen years ago)

i'm of the opinion that sweaters should never zip, so that deer head one is not for me.

though i am a big fan of the snowflake-patterned, fairisle-type figured sweater type things -- i've been looking for a good one for a while, but i'm pretty picky about color and pattern.

caveat: if you are a already a douche these sweaters will absolutely magnify that fact, e.g. --

i've got a lee hazlewood tv special from when he was making the duets records in sweden. everyone's going for the big scandanavian sweater/heavy gold chain combo.

i always find these sweaters too warm tho or confining or something i don't know. prob perfect if you live in a damp cold cabin in the woods, or yes apres ski

Lafayette Lever hi wtf (ice cr?m), Monday, 8 December 2008 15:47 (sixteen years ago)

I think these are just what are known in cold places as "really warm, really ugly sweaters that are really cheap at the second-hand store". Which of course means they'll have a renaissance at some point (now?) and spawn Urban Outfitters versions in pilly synthetics.

One Community Service Mummy, hold the Straightedge Merman (Laurel), Monday, 8 December 2008 15:49 (sixteen years ago)

i got my sweater w/ design at uniqlo where it was on sale

Lafayette Lever hi wtf (ice cr?m), Monday, 8 December 2008 15:54 (sixteen years ago)

I am sort of a nostalgic sucker for the finely knit Scandanavian ones with the metal buckles. I think my mom has four of them in different color-ways. I have none but wd not be surprised if I acquired some cheesy, hand-knitty ones before age 50.

One Community Service Mummy, hold the Straightedge Merman (Laurel), Monday, 8 December 2008 15:55 (sixteen years ago)

I am not really sure what to make of the metal buttons on the collar. Are you supposed to tie them or sth?

yes in fairness ppl have been wearing multiple variations on these types of sweaters for a good 100 years but it is notably true that there's been a huge upswing in morons in williamsburg throwing "sweater parties" and these style items all appearing in uniqlo and h&m & brooklyn industries so let's not be disingenuous here just because yes, ppl holidaying in aspen have worn these forever.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Thursday, 18 December 2008 15:27 (sixteen years ago)

i mean jesus goddamn christ on a bike if i log into facebook one more time and see either A) photos of my friends at a "sweater party" or B) another invite to a "sweater party" i'm going to delete my facebook account!

also fun fact: i had a drug supplier who used the code word "sweaters" to talk about these items so "sweater party" keeps cracking me up.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Thursday, 18 December 2008 15:39 (sixteen years ago)

i was gonna say, mightn't euphemism have aided the trend (preceded by themed bars)?

the higgs bosun (gabbneb), Thursday, 18 December 2008 15:40 (sixteen years ago)

This sweater party stuff is news to me, but it reminds me of when the "media" was freaking out about "rainbow parties" among jr high kids. Which turned out not to have actually happened, after all.

Would it be an improvement if "sweater parties" were shown to be an urban legend?

One Community Service Mummy, hold the Straightedge Merman (Laurel), Thursday, 18 December 2008 15:45 (sixteen years ago)

i had no idea that sweater parties were such a thing

the magic length of god (elmo argonaut), Friday, 19 December 2008 02:06 (sixteen years ago)

i would be okay being the only guy in a deliberately flashy or novelty type sweater at whatever shindig but if everyone is wearing crazy sweaters?? it does not sound like enough to organize a party around

the magic length of god (elmo argonaut), Friday, 19 December 2008 02:20 (sixteen years ago)

this is fascinating. I have never been invited to a sweater party. Maybe I need to organize one myself. I assume there also needs to be an election of sweater king and queen.

baaderonixx, Friday, 19 December 2008 11:34 (sixteen years ago)

18 months to 3 years, if the trend hits at all.

In the meantime, does "chalet sweater" mean "ragg sweater"?

That looks like a very short leap away from wolf Tshirts, whale Tshirts, etc, so please consider carefully.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 21:52 (sixteen years ago)

i'm in - this is like the summer version of the chalet sweater with a grungy outdoor thing thrown in for good measure.

baaderonixx, Thursday, 29 January 2009 09:04 (sixteen years ago)

With their soft, warm 6-oz.-per-square-yard chamois construction, it's no wonder that our Printed Chamois Shirts are a customer favorite. The photographic-quality prints evoke thoughts of the natural world and bring back memories of past outdoor experiences. The classy, yet conservative patterns are at home in practically any environment, from the office to the cabin.

baaderonixx, Thursday, 29 January 2009 09:05 (sixteen years ago)

u should really be able to make yr own pattern w/technology tho

obi don quixote (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 29 January 2009 13:52 (sixteen years ago)

I'm not sayin I don't have a chamois shirt! It is evergreen-teal and a giant size and delightfully warm. I will leave the leaping fish, however, to the more...stylish.
