i disagree, i think turtlenecks are right around the bend. too 90s to count out. definitely classic, LARGELY depending on the pairing.

Surmounter, Sunday, 15 February 2009 00:05 (seventeen years ago)

but yeah i guess it's a fine line :/

Surmounter, Sunday, 15 February 2009 00:14 (seventeen years ago)

i think there are certain requirements such as--

  • you have a big beard
  • you you live a log cabin
  • or maybe on a boat
  • you have an eyepatch (optional)

also would like to point out that those sweater turtlenecks with the HUGE necks are really beautiful

Surmounter, Sunday, 15 February 2009 00:27 (seventeen years ago)

^^ forgotten truth. agreed

i am resigned to the fact that the turtleneck will probably come back EVENTUALLY but i am still traumatized by the rolled / ribbed versions from their last wave of popularity

obi don quixote (elmo argonaut), Sunday, 15 February 2009 05:07 (seventeen years ago)

one of the the things that bothers me a TON is those stupid fucking sleeveless turtleneck sweaters. WHY do you need neck coverage if no sleeves? it does not make any sense.

i hate turtlenecks. my neck is claustrophobic?

twittereans ,pls advise (tehresa), Sunday, 15 February 2009 05:10 (seventeen years ago)

how did i misspell this

goole, Sunday, 15 February 2009 18:26 (seventeen years ago)

feel fell fail

awesome was amazing (PappaWheelie V), Sunday, 15 February 2009 18:26 (seventeen years ago)

anyway i ended up cutting the (turtle) neck off the thing and it looked all right.

goole, Sunday, 15 February 2009 18:27 (seventeen years ago)

I think ones that are flowy and loose around the neck are alright, I mean this is cute (sorry that's a really lazy GIS) but those might have a different name?

And if it's from the 60s or Pierre Cardin, then it's okay too

But um generally unattractive on guys.

salsa shark, Sunday, 15 February 2009 19:15 (seventeen years ago)

yeah those MIGHt have a different name. it's like shawlneck or something stupid, scarfneck or something

Surmounter, Sunday, 15 February 2009 21:24 (seventeen years ago)

cowlneck

max, Sunday, 15 February 2009 21:54 (seventeen years ago)

right!

i don't even know what a cowl is

Surmounter, Sunday, 15 February 2009 22:34 (seventeen years ago)

I always found turtlenecks on women to be a turnoff for some reason. Once a girl wore a turtleneck on a date with me and I got this distinct "I would prefer that no one touches me" vibe from it.

turtlenecks can be fine, check out steve mcqueen or lots of other 60s icons rocking the look, but they have their moment every 20 years or so

Turtle necks: C/D?

baaderonixx, Monday, 16 February 2009 08:41 (seventeen years ago)

In any case, for guys, I quite like a 60's look with a tight suit and some brightly colored turtleneck, but it doesn't work on me.

baaderonixx, Monday, 16 February 2009 08:48 (seventeen years ago)

working this look right now - good way to escape over-zealous aircon in the office if you don't like to layer.

I have always worn them - I have a nice grey cashemere one that I wear a lot on weekends.

i used to hate turtlenecks when i was little but i have one mock turtleneck that i like a lot - it barely qualifies though

in france all the ladies love wearing the big, oversized turtlenecks (and not just the very open slouch kind as pictured upthread) and there is something very nice about it, it's luxurious and relaxed somehow

for men the turtleneck/jacket combo is pretty killer i think

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 23:07 (seventeen years ago)

we think they look stuffy on most people. me and the little frog in my coat, that is
