Tan or cognac colored soft boots - does evey 20 year old girl have a pair?

In my neighborhood, at least, it seems that all the girls - ALL of them - are wearing these. They might be anything from knee-highs to cossack boots but the color scheme is everywhere. I'm not surprised I didn't get the memo, being neither in my twenties nor a female, but does EVERY girl have to wear these? It's almost creepy in its ubiquity.

i do not have any because i do not own any boot-appropriate items that black boots would not match.

Iirc, you have a pair, but yours are more like Fryes or something. It's not quite the same thing going on on Haight.

yeah, THIS is the real problem here. the subbing of cognac boots for black ones in all circumstances -- there are instances where shades of brown and black will work together but it's not ALL instances and there's no reason to be doing this haphazardly. it's weirdly ubiquitous right now, you're right. i know ppl who have shown up at work wearing navy stripe + black leggings + brown boots and i'm like OK NEUTRALS /= MATCHES EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME. but no one seems to be listening...it's sad for people who do mix browns and blacks well to be lumped in with these girls.

and yes, i have multiple pairs of frye's one of which is a pale tan color!

The schef was well put together in her boots, just to be clear. I don't really care what the girls wear, tbh, it's just that there seems to be this current fashion fetish of sorts regardless of whther it really works or not. It frankly just makes me wish to disrobe them all and start from zero.

I think, maybe, that if it is making you want to disrobe them, it may be on a rather primal level a successful choice.

haha, I just bought a pair of cognac colored boots actually. they didn't arrive yet, i'll see if i can manage to make them work. also been wearing dark brown frye oxford heels a lot esp when they don't really match. there are some french people on this fashion site i follow that pull off this look pretty well, I think..

there has been a thing about this lately on fashion sites i've noticed. isabel marant made slouchy tan boots for spring/summer 09 and they sold out before they got to the stores evidently. also french label 'the kooples' had fantastic tan short boots w/wooden heel, also sold out now unfortunately, i really wanted a pair. it seems kind of 70's somehow? it's the ppl who aren't all trying to be erin wasson/dressed in alexander wang.

none of those links are mismatched color combinations imo though...the shades of brown are neutral/cool enough to go with the neutral-ish palettes being presented.

i wish i could give you a photo of what i mean but that would require me creepy-styling it and just taking photos of random chicks i see.

I have a lovely pair of I suppose mushroom-coloured (I refuse to call them 'greige') Kurt Geiger ankle boots and they go very well with black or whatever shade of grey, but would not wear with navy or beige due to owning nothing in either of those colours which is not 1) Burberry trench or 2) weird pinstriped '50s navy Hardy Amies suit. Would wear with really seriously dark sepia brown items, however...
