i feel like kind of a moron; i need more pants because all i ever wear are jeans and corduroys but i can't even figure out what other kinds of pants men wear besides khakis, which i associate with lame dads, and slacks, which i think of being for business settings. what kind of casual pants do sophisticated classy men like myself wear?

ime khakis are pretty OK provided that you get ones that fit well

also dude wear slacks whenever you want, be a rebel, ur in a band
yeah agreed on both statements. khakis and slacks are very outfit-dependant, but both can be great

Nicer corduroys with dress pant styling instead of jean styling or whatev? Could be a good cross-over item. Also, wool, wool, wool, wool. Real men's trousers are made of wool.

u need some dark gray cotton pants, not too baggy or too tight, that kind of bunch up near the ankle.
maybe?
― Surmounter, Monday, 16 March 2009 17:41 (sixteen years ago)
1. first you need to banish the word "slacks" from your vocab
2. then go buy some summer-weight wool pants that fit you well, they should be snug but not uncomfortable; pay a dude to alter the length so they fall on your shoes just right
3. PROFIT

first of all, just say we were at TRADER JOE'S
secondly i was wearing corduroys and a hoodie so i don't know how stylish i could have been. i am wearing my favorite tshirt which is just plain navy blue but it was under my hoodie; however, it may have embued me with some confidence which may have made me seem more stylish. in any case, thanks for your kind words

Mr. Que just bought DockersTM that don't look as one might expect DockersTM to look.

I feel the same problem: I want black or dark grey pants that are a) not jeans, corduroys, or khakis, and b) not 'nice pants', as in 'I'm dressing up' pants, as in, 'I'm on my way to a funeral and/or an office where I am the doctor'.

i don't really advocate black pants w/ out some sort of jacket, especially if the pants are on the shiny side, because I generally think they make one look like a waiter. dark grey pants are good. if you are under 30 you may still be able to rock dickies, if that's yr thing. and of course cords are great.

J. Crew makes slim chinos/khakis that aren't very dad-ish.

Yeah, I would suggest J Crew.
