i wear all black all the time, i think it's a pretty dope look tbh - esp layers of all black

i think the problem w/ most dudes is that their clothes don't fit - you don't gotta read gq or anything to look good, i can't tell you how many of my friends would dress okay if only their jeans fit right or their coat fit right or w/e

also once your shoes are dirty get a new pair. $60 isn't that much money

yeah clothes fitting right is obvs a big deal, but I feel like standing up straight is related to that (for me, at least), like it's making your body fit the clothes, or standing the way the clothes were designed for?

Many xposts but the only thing you have to do is buy clothes that fit you and iron them before putting them on.

also simplicity, i think lots of time ppl who aspire to be 'stylish' just do too much - you can really good in a shirt and jeans and shoes if everything fits. sometimes i see my friends wearing striped long sleeve shirts under short sleeve shirts or ppl wearing horizontally striped shrits with plaid shorts and it's like 'enough!'

i think another thing is to get a staple of your wardrobe, something that ppl who see you a lot will associate with you stylistically, be it a color palate or a certain garment or even a brand of shoes. for one it makes you seem smart and confident, but also it gives you a framework to fall back on when buying clothes and gives you the opportunity to 'wow' people on special occasions by working out of the 'staple'

I was also going to say "simplify your pattern choices" but figured that was thinking too hard about this, particularly when ppl haven't even gotten to the stage of ironing their clothes yet.

btw--1 universal rule of fashion: the more pockets the better

5-pocket jeans = a 5 on the fashion scale

10-pocket pants = a perfect 10

maybe "more risks" is a good one. prints, color, fun cuts. i dunno, maybe not.

I would not advocate telling someone who doesn't know how to dress to take more risks, since that's how someone ends up buying a mohair jacket.

yeah i agree more risks should only be advice applied to those who have mastered the basics - many ppl have yet to master the basics

The problem is defining "risks". It doesn't mean "Kooky and crazy, so everyone can see how unconventional the Inner You really is!!!"

Ie the Betty Page-print Hawiian-style shirt is a risk, but one that should result in you being shot at dawn. The slim-cut dress shirt might be a risk if you think it's too tight or too "fashionable" but that's one you should take.

I wish someone would just tell me which Street Fighter character to dress like.

Laurel i'm frankly stunned at your suggestion that i have ever worn, or would ever recommend wearing, "nice" leather flipflops - my flops are $4 old navy or they're nothing

balla: super darkwash denims with a black tee. tee has a metallic silver abstract design around the bottom and on the sleeve. white w/acid/neon court force unlaced. patek on the left. bonus: girlfriend's a dime & her denim mini ends like an inch below the bottom of her ass

bank mngr band: dove gray deep v-neck cashmere sweater over white oxford, top button undone, college tie knotted but loose at the neck. slim fitting black pants and polished black officers shoes. rail thin with artfully careless looken tousled hair

omg: deeeeeep summer tan and a faded hendrix @ woodstock (?) t-shirt mustard yellow. almost auburn madras shorts with a really subtle red check u dont notice @ 1st. worn navy adidas and tennis socks. bonus: yelling across the subway car to your classmates (camp friends?) in spanish

wite kidz: low slung light wash nudies and a red polo w/ the oversized logo. air jordan iv reissues (!!!) in red and white with the jumpman tongue popped, unlaced.

even bros got girl problems: really low slung khaki cargo shorts purple canvas belt. coke white vans slip ons, no socks. colorado rockies (road?) jersey mostly unbuttoned. white t underneath.

make it real: black soccer shorts w/white details. reebok pumps reissues mono, laced. yellow like yellow yellow warm up jacket front zip. bottom and cuffs are that ribbed stretch cotton ~ white. zip collar and front hand pockets are white as well.

i have no idea. but i thought it was impt to share this

i like the way louis thinks it's a big deal that he figured out wearing all one colour looks a bit daft and that this is sage wisdom to be passed on the the medium of internets.

I realized that the "commando" sweater had a moth hole innit so I went with the county gentleman look of tan plaid under the dark blue sweater. I guess this was successful because I obtained 1 kiss (although not the one particular lady I wanted to kiss but whatevs).

I'm sure there are stylie exceptions, but I have to say, in general: yes. Don't wear all army colors unless you are in the army. This also goes for navy colors -- hell, any service branch -- because 98543909034 different blues do not nec go together.

maybe i should stop thrifting all / most of my clothes

i already purged my closet of about half its contents about 2 months ago but i am just tired of it all. i've tried to be much more discriminating with the stuff i do thrift, paying attention to garment details and such; i've had a good run lately finding nice if very conservative brooks bros. shirts in my size, but the rest of my wardrobe doesn't quite accommodate that look. my current selection of pants & shoes is pretty dismal tbh.
