i just started using Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Protective Recovery Complex.

you guys have any experience with things like this? do they clog your pores? there doesn't seem to be any oil in this one.

my boyfriend's mom uses products like this and her skin is luminous... so i'm counting on it working.

i get really excited when i wake up in the morning, with this feeling like i'm going to unveil a new me

I love rainbow cookies (surm), Friday, 31 July 2009 22:31 (sixteen years ago)

i want them to work but i don't think they do. i don't know. i haven't really tried too many.

tehresa, Friday, 31 July 2009 22:34 (sixteen years ago)

i don't know, i mean, i've definitely noticed my eye stuff working. so that gives me hope!

I love rainbow cookies (surm), Friday, 31 July 2009 22:34 (sixteen years ago)

so. undereye creams. i usually just apply like right beneath the eye, but lately i've started to notice slight circles beneath that. and you know, people are always complaining about crows feet on the outer corners of the eye or whatever?

so i want to start doing this but i'm worried it will make me breakout. thoughts?

I love rainbow cookies (surm), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 14:36 (sixteen years ago)

Has never occurred to me to try any of these. Prob should use something around the mouth to try and stave off the smoker's pucker, but corners of eyes don't appear to be showing any signs of wrinkling. Deep furrow between eyebrows is normal expression for me and I doubt anything except paralysis would change that. :)

Like most people my age, I am 33 (Laurel), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 15:00 (sixteen years ago)

i use eye cream all over the eye area - no breakouts :)
xpost

tehresa, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 15:05 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah surmounter you need to put that shit all around the eyes including in the corners.

ENBB, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 15:18 (sixteen years ago)

ooook thx guys

I love rainbow cookies (surm), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 16:34 (sixteen years ago)

Surm are you hard core with the sunscreen? Because I wish I had been when I was er younger.

quincie, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 18:57 (sixteen years ago)

ugh i'm not. but i did just start using an SPF15 moisturizer

I love rainbow cookies (surm), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:00 (sixteen years ago)

You are pretty fair, correct? Me too--and when I hit my 30s these brown sunspots that look like freckles only bigger and not cute started cropping up. So now my advice to the young'uns is DO NOT LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT SUNSCREEN ON, EVER.

quincie, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:02 (sixteen years ago)

i have really been trying to be diligent about the sunscreen and i still think i'm already seeing sun/age effects :( :( :(

tehresa, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:04 (sixteen years ago)

i got a sample from mario badescu that is an eye/lip sunscreen. it's really nice, but it's only spf 15 i think :(

tehresa, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:04 (sixteen years ago)

Wtf level SPF do you guys use? I was using 70 but the a couple ppl were like "Damn don't you get any sun?" and now I'm wondering if such a high SPF is even necessary.

ENBB, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:05 (sixteen years ago)

i was using a neutrogena sport face 70, but now i'm using aveeno 55 for babies (lol) and my moisturizer is also 15, so i don't know - am i still at 70?

tehresa, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:14 (sixteen years ago)

i am so excited to order new clinique cosmetics on friday when i get paid. i'm thinkin some SPF has to be in the mix.

I love rainbow cookies (surm), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:15 (sixteen years ago)

tbh i've been a little lax at times (for example, forgetting to put it on when i'm just running from the house to gym) and i feel as though i've picked up more color than i would have liked this summer (which is not much, but when i pick up color it mostly makes me pinker/older looking, rather than tan).

tehresa, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:16 (sixteen years ago)

Wow. I don't have newly appeared age spots --- YET. But I started avoiding the sun in early high school (which only means "I stopped laying out or going tanning, unlike everyone else").

Like most people my age, I am 33 (Laurel), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:16 (sixteen years ago)

The thing is that a little sunburn just gives me some color and makes me rosy in the cheeks = I don't hate it. But I don't like to get ACTUALLY tan, either.

Like most people my age, I am 33 (Laurel), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:17 (sixteen years ago)

also i think i did some damage (even though i was wearing 70 and never burned) in peru, where i was at high elevations AND closer to the equator (double whammy for sun exposure). i feel like my face color is way more uneven since then.

tehresa, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:17 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah I don't really want to be tan either but was thinking maybe a little color wouldn't be too bad. Oh fuck it, I'll stick with my SPF 70.

ENBB, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:19 (sixteen years ago)

My hair gets really blonde in the summer and is pretty light right now so I thought maybe a little tan would look good but I'd rather not risk it I guess. I just burn too easily.

ENBB, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:20 (sixteen years ago)

My sun damage was definitely racked up in my 20s, when I rarely used sunscreen, lived on the coast of Texas, etc. etc. I don't have much in the way of wrinkles (knock on wood) but I'm paying the price in sunspots, broken capillaries, and general uneveness.

I'm super picky about how stuff feels, and one of the few facial sunscreens I've found to be both non-irritating and "cosmetically elegant" (i.e. no white cast or pilling) is La Roche Posay (sp?) anthelios SPF 15. They now have higher SPFs available (a 40, I think), and I will definitely move up once I run out of my current supply.

quincie, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:36 (sixteen years ago)

OK, this is good to know. I've heard good things about them but it's sorta $$ so I've never bought it but think I will next time. Is it a moisturizer with sunscreen in it or just a sunscreen?

ENBB, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:37 (sixteen years ago)

They have both--a moisturizer with SPF 15 (which I use for regular workdays) and a water-resistant SPF 15 (which I use for hikes, the pool, more exposed stuff).

quincie, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 19:40 (sixteen years ago)

tehresa, Thursday, 6 August 2009 15:02 (sixteen years ago)

i never know what to do about eye creams--i seem to get milia pretty easily. (those raised white spots--uuuugh)

i've tried a ton of different brands, but i hate those damn spots, so i don't use any of it anymore. i probably should.

JuliaA, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 22:27 (sixteen years ago)

nordstrom's rack has a shitload of dr. perricone products on major sale. if only i had expendable income... i see the super $$ anti-aging stuff as a luxury rather than a necessity (like eye cream and moisturizer, for example).

tehresa, Thursday, 13 August 2009 03:35 (sixteen years ago)

i worry about the white bumps too, but i worry more about crows feet, so i take the risk. usually i'm ok if i put a little benzoyl peroxide on any white bumps!

I love rainbow cookies (surm), Thursday, 13 August 2009 05:32 (sixteen years ago)

and yes i love the marshalls racks ;)

I love rainbow cookies (surm), Thursday, 13 August 2009 05:33 (sixteen years ago)

i also have to say that air conditioning has saved my skin this summer. i can go to sleep with all my stuff on and wake up intact.

I love rainbow cookies (surm), Thursday, 13 August 2009 05:50 (sixteen years ago)

i am just thrilled to learn that my temporary bumpy skin phase definitely was because of the bare minerals reaction and not some new recurring skin freakout thing. took a while to go away, but it hasn't come back, thank goodness!

tehresa, Thursday, 13 August 2009 05:58 (sixteen years ago)

whole experience is making me super sheepish about trying new creams, sunscreens, etc., though :(

tehresa, Thursday, 13 August 2009 05:58 (sixteen years ago)

btw, this Boots No7 Protect & Perfect is great for fine lines/sun damage and you can get it at Target.

Jaq, Thursday, 13 August 2009 23:11 (sixteen years ago)

zinc- and titanium-based sunblock is supposedly most effective at blocking out UV rays, so I've been swearing by it for the past year or so. because I'm such a cheapo, I stick to CVS's 15 spf moisturizer (an Olay knockoff) and Walgreens' 45 spf zinc sunblock, but I'm a bit lazy about replacing them after they run out. is it crazy & obsessive to buy sunblock by the quart/gallon at the beginning of the summer? because I'm thinking about doing that next year.

nehemiah 4:3 (unregistered), Sunday, 16 August 2009 17:28 (sixteen years ago)

I'm terrified of wrinkles and age spots but haven't had any problems yet because I'm a BABY, so I'm told.

nehemiah 4:3 (unregistered), Sunday, 16 August 2009 17:29 (sixteen years ago)

you can never have too much sunscreen ;)

tehresa, Monday, 17 August 2009 20:58 (sixteen years ago)

:) guys, i got told i look 24 the other day. i feel it's nice (i'm 26...)

I love rainbow cookies (surm), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 17:20 (sixteen years ago)

one month passes...

Not sure if this anti-aging or age reversal, but... I need some kind of cream for very pronounced laughter lines, to somehow 'fill them in'. There are so many of them. Any recommendations?

Also, anything that deals with dark under eyes really well? Don't have a puffiness problem, but do have a darkness problem.

ljubljana, Sunday, 4 October 2009 23:27 (sixteen years ago)

i think i'm getting more eye wrinkles bc my sunglasses broke and i've been more exposed.

i need a new exfoliating scrub. i was using the alba green one but i think it is too coarse.

tehresa, Sunday, 4 October 2009 23:30 (sixteen years ago)

I like the Origins papaya one but that was years ago. Now I have a Clarins one that was a waste of money as it's too messy to use regularly.

ljubljana, Monday, 5 October 2009 01:18 (sixteen years ago)

my chanel rep, speaking to her colleague/slave who was preparing a preferred customer file: "emily's interests are eye makeup and....[looks at my face and then down to the floor for a moment, slight cough] first signs of aging"

as for those cold eye compress things they sell, can we confirm that these are bullshit?

tehresa, Saturday, 19 December 2009 20:01 (fifteen years ago)

:) i want it so bad

still using my neutrogena on-the-spot + night of olay. i think i'm happy with the results.

also alternating between lab series for men / clinique under-eye creams. i like them both. i kind of prefer the lab series one but i think it's too expensive for me to buy on my own. guy at work gives me free samples. i'll have to see if i can hit him up for that again....

Do you love me now? (surm), Thursday, 24 December 2009 05:18 (fifteen years ago)

Sephora will give samples of it in those cute lil plastic jars.

Kelsey Glamour (Nijoli), Thursday, 24 December 2009 17:16 (fifteen years ago)

PRO TIP

Everyone a work seems to think I'm between 23-26 so I'm pretty happy with the rults good old Olay has proided me with. Really though, I think the way ppl age is mainly down to genetics

Do you love me now? (surm), Thursday, 24 December 2009 19:14 (fifteen years ago)

it's annoying tho cuz i kind of have to trust her, cuz she's a nutritionist and she looks, like, 15 years younger than she actually is

Do you love me now? (surm), Thursday, 24 December 2009 19:15 (fifteen years ago)

got Clarins Instant Smooth for xmas, will report back (this is for visuals rather than actual effect on skin, though)

ljubljana, Friday, 25 December 2009 08:47 (fifteen years ago)

i think my skin problems really may be climate related because when i went away for 2 weeks it got a little better!

also i think maybe hormones.

tehresa, Tuesday, 5 January 2010 18:32 (fifteen years ago)

Not getting great effects from Instant Smooth.

ljubljana, Tuesday, 5 January 2010 18:47 (fifteen years ago)

my sister got a garnier eye depuffer roller thing and i tried it but i did not like it. i don't know maybe you need to use it a bunch? but i generally do not like the garnier skin care line.

tehresa, Tuesday, 5 January 2010 18:47 (fifteen years ago)

also rip my caudalié buffing cream (sefap casualty) :( :( :( :(

tehresa, Tuesday, 5 January 2010 18:49 (fifteen years ago)

oops it is caudalíe.

tehresa, Tuesday, 5 January 2010 18:50 (fifteen years ago)

My skin is affected by climate too. It goes a bit bad when I visit my parents (it's cold and/or dry there) but it's usually pretty clear when I'm in UK.

(also my mom insists vaseline, plain old vaseline, is the trick to her good skin. she is nearly 50 but has been IDed a couple times during the last year, and nobody believes her when she says she has an adult daughter, so it must be doing something right)

salsa sharkshavin (salsa shark), Tuesday, 5 January 2010 23:53 (fifteen years ago)

i got a sample of that murad stuff!

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 00:55 (fifteen years ago)

ugh that's so cool. i saw it in sephora and drooled a little.

vaseline! i have heard this, but i think it would clog my pores way too much. i'm sure it works wonders tho!

Do you love me now? (surm), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 01:07 (fifteen years ago)

just ask them for a sample, surm!

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 01:08 (fifteen years ago)

I always use the tester, caking it on in a v v large amount and then ask for a sample.

I have a friend who just started working at Sephora. I wonder if they get a discount?

Kelsey Glamour (Nijoli), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 01:10 (fifteen years ago)

oh ok! i need to go back there to get my new cologne anyway

Do you love me now? (surm), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 01:11 (fifteen years ago)

if i put vaseline on my face i wld get IDed for looking like a pimply 15-yr-old for real

dragon movies (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 01:35 (fifteen years ago)

ya that's what I thought too, I was skeptical when she told me it worked for her. I'd never try it because I'm sure that's exactly what I'd look like too, but maybe for people with really dry skin in dry climates it can make a more positive difference.

salsa sharkshavin (salsa shark), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 08:58 (fifteen years ago)

Really dry, fine-grained skin I think mostly ages through drying out? Oily skin is more protected in the long run. Maybe your mom has dry skin to begin with and the Vaseline is protecting it from aging normally, that would be kind of a personal magic bullet for her, in which case, yay for Moms.

WHY DON'T YOU JUST LICK THE BUS DIRECTLY (Laurel), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 15:13 (fifteen years ago)

o yes, she has very dry skin to begin with, which is not made better by living in a very dry climate.

salsa sharkshavin (salsa shark), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 15:20 (fifteen years ago)

I scheduled IPL. Does this make me a horrible shallow bitch?

quincie, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 16:58 (fifteen years ago)

Not at all and the results I see in before/after pics look promising.

How much is it,generally?

Kelsey Glamour (Nijoli), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 17:14 (fifteen years ago)

Well I think places are running recession specials--I'm doing four treatments plus a bonus "gentle waves" (wtf?) treatment for well under a grand. I have a long and tortured history with my skin (terrible acne for many years, extensive sun damage and broken cappillaries, pre-cancerous lesions, etc)--so while it is a big DINK-y splurge it will be the fulfillment of a major wish I've had for decades now.

Oh and it is being done by my legit dermatologist after getting second opinions so I feel pretty secure that I will have good results.

quincie, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 17:42 (fifteen years ago)

oh i would do that
i just have gotten to the point where i tend to wear power/foundation every day to even out skin tone and it is annoying

dragon movies (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 18:39 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah I dunno it's like at age 33 all of these sun spots started showing up and capillaries were bursting all over the place, just when the acne was finally a thing of the past!

quincie, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:23 (fifteen years ago)

what is IPL?

s1ocki seconds (tehresa), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:24 (fifteen years ago)

intense pulsed light--kinda like a laser thingie, but with less er tissue distruction. Can get rid of stuff like hyperpigmentation (sun spots, etc) and vascular lesions/redness/flushing.

quincie, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:31 (fifteen years ago)

um destruction not distruction duh

quincie, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:32 (fifteen years ago)

o god i would love that

Do you love me now? (surm), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:33 (fifteen years ago)

good for you!

Do you love me now? (surm), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:33 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah I dunno it's like at age 33 all of these sun spots started showing up
me too. are lazers the only option for getting rid of these? they are not freckles and i do not like them.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:34 (fifteen years ago)

oh wow nice

s1ocki seconds (tehresa), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:34 (fifteen years ago)

does your face get all swollen for a few days after ipl?

velko, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:35 (fifteen years ago)

Apparently you can expect redness and maybe a little puffiness for a day afterwards, but it is considered a "no downtime" procedure. My derm said it would look/feel like a moderate sunburn for a day or so. Hell after all of the actual horrible sunburns I've had, this should be a piece of cake.

Freckles I would be fine with, but the sun spots are definitely not freckles.

quincie, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:41 (fifteen years ago)

are lazers the only option for getting rid of these?

Lasers (of which there are many types) and/or chemical peels (also many types) are the only things for sun spots I think. Microdermabrasion I think is good for wrinkles and pore appearance, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't do anything about hyperpigmentation.

quincie, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:44 (fifteen years ago)

i wish there was a way to do a nonsurgical brow lift.

s1ocki seconds (tehresa), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:44 (fifteen years ago)

but that is not skin care anyway so.

s1ocki seconds (tehresa), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:44 (fifteen years ago)

Please note that IPL is as far as I'm willing to go on the cosmetic front--no botox, fillers etc. for me, thanks. Definitely no plastic surgery!

quincie, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:45 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i am really anti-plastic surgery!
i just feel like i am carrying a bunch of weight in my forehead that hides my eyes and makes me squinty.
i will just have to deal, though!

s1ocki seconds (tehresa), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:46 (fifteen years ago)

i've done glycolic acid peels at home, but nothing serious. it also didn't work.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 19:47 (fifteen years ago)

eight months pass...

so the inner corners of my eyes are starting to get ... i don't know, something. like they're not hydrated enough.

i haven't been using eye cream bc i ran out but i just found a little. i need to invest tho. anything been working wonders as of late?

janice (surm), Monday, 27 September 2010 14:13 (fifteen years ago)
