"Infinity scarf" – lame or wearable?

I guess they are a thing now? Some scarf that's a big loop instead of a big rectangle.

Do you cool & stylish people think these are neat or silly? I am looking for things to knit for my sisters-in-law as xmas gifts. They're both very fashion forward. I can't tell if this trend is stupid or not since the knitting part of my brain is overriding any stylistic concerns by telling me over & over how flipping easy these would be to make. If you guys wld wear one, I'll make them, if not, no.

They kind of take away from the traditional appeal of scarves, ties and cravats in that they are a binary layer of clothing instead of adjustable, on or off. They don't look terrible, though. My gf has a weird faux rabbit fur scarf thing that's in a sort of a latticework pattern so instead of tying it, you thread one end through on the holes and pull it as tightly or loosely as you wish.

This is basically a mobius knit, right? I like the idea of fucking up your join on circular needles and then being like "o rite i meant to make this infinity scarf 4 u"

a binary layer of clothing

If you fold it over itself I guess that you'd end up with a lump on the end that would be impossible to stuff down the front of a coat.

Weird! Have never heard of, had no idea.

Too casual and shapeless for me, but that's entirely personal, and since quince and lots of other ILS peeps are sharp dressers I'm sure they can weigh in. xp oh look there she is!

Thnk I would like it more w some tweaking: making it lace or open-work for texture, and broadening the scarf so it could be pulled up over the head like a hood if desired.

Just as a thin strip to wrap around your neck, I'm not that interested...but if the scarf were made to be beautiful in its own right, like a piece of jewelry, then yes!

i LOVE these, esp ones that are really wide that you could wear as sort of hood/scarf combo. i actually find the tassels/ends of a scarf annoying.

abbott if you knit these with success, i would pay you to make me one too!!

one month passes...

i can't be the only one thinking these are scarves for people who can't tie scarves

i love the european loop so much i wouldn't want a scarf that deprived me of it.

DJ Get Up Kids (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 14 February 2010 23:22 (fifteen years ago)

what is the european loop?? is it just doubling the scarf, putting around neck, and pulling the ends through the doubled-over part?

Tracer Hand, Monday, 15 February 2010 12:48 (fifteen years ago)

european loop = larksfoot
