I wear plaid shorts proudly

"fashion people" like lamp and phil exempt from that law, im just talking about the bro-y plaid shorts that ppl buy from target or whatever and are always awful and ill-fitting and seem to be the 2010 version of pre-worn cargo shorts

If only there were some sort of non-shorts-conducive extended weather pattern forthcoming to kill them off.

Prefer cargo shorts to any of these, but prefer cargo shorts mostly in Army green and not as just another incarnation of khaki(s).

I can deal with these if they are mostly monochromatic - like dark grey shorts with with light grey plaids on them - but I haven't been able to bring myself to try the ones that are all orange and yellow and stuff. This may be more of a function of me being afraid of color in general though.

as with most mens clothes i can handle these if they *fit* and are patterned in a *pleasing way* but i see them on literally millions of bros every day and i wonder--what are you thinking you look like here? like a cool alternabro too hip for 'plain colors'? like the author of the preppy handbook?--because you look like you are wearing your older brothers boxers

I don't think it's possible for cargo shorts to look good even if they do ~fit~ but am prepared to be corrected w/photos of nice cargos

Back when our grandparents were young, the only people who wore shorts were small children, but this attitude largely went out in the 60s, I think.

the shorts debate has been done on ILX and I think it boiled down to people who live in colder more conservative areas typically frown upon them and people who live in liberal, warmer areas do not. ditto flip-flops.

this is otm - seeing fewer and fewer shorts breach the knee line which is good news for everyone, even if they are plaid

eh, not my style at all even beyond the fact they'd cost me half a week's pay

it's not really just myself, i guess, i don't really like the way above-the-knee shorts look on men. i probably shouldn't be posting on i love style.

i spent part of the summer wearing no-shows, then got tired of sweaty feet and started going sockless and was much happier thereafter

Well-fitting ones in traditional/monochromatic colors like the one Lamp posted paired with nice shoes and a polo shirt, classic.

Baggy ones with orange in the plaid and paired with Billabong t-shirts and flip-flops, dud dud dud! I can smell the waft of cheap cologne that comes with it just thinking about it.
