how to pull off white pants (aka what the hell do i wear w/this blazer) (aka is this nice enough for a wedding)

first one that says "start w/the zipper" gets an SB

so i got this blazer. generally wear it w/jeans. wanted to dress it up a bit for a summer wedding next week in chicago. tried wearing khakis but seriously just felt like young republican. saw a pic (of probably an italian dude) on the sartorialist and thought i'd try to track down white pants. searched everywhere for white or really light grey pants. i guess i just missed them, because stores are just starting to stock for fall. finally found some at american apparel, but i dunno. just dunno if i could do it. also tried on grey pants. these both look way too casual like i'm just wearing jeans. maybe if they fit better? guess i'm wearing a suit to the wedding... again

so:
what else could i wear w/this blazer to make it look nicer?
is this nice enough for a wedding?
do you wear white pants? (guess there's already a thread for that White jeans)

Gr8080 to thread!

tehresa, Friday, 20 August 2010 23:32 (fifteen years ago)

-Guy in picture is using pocket hanky to tie in pants
-the shoes + no socks make him look more Riviera and less Young Republican
-the cut of his pants plus the material is working - less creasage and clumps of material

It's a risky look to be sure. I'm not even sure dude in picture is pulling it off.

You can maybe get your blazer to work with different shoes and belt, more understated shoes and belt with just a hint of detail on them

But srsly I would go with well cut grey pants. You can go lighter grey if u like.

Seconding this.

Oh and yes, it looks like a nice blazer

I totally applaud you for trying to wear something different to a wedding though. I have a vintage suit that I pretty much always wear for these things, but would love some new combinations.

Details like that pocket hanky may seem douchey but any small (really, keep it small) thing you can do to make a risky look seem planned/deliberate and "nailed on" will help u. If you're going to wear white pants you need to look like you KNOW your pants are white.

Now get out there and WORK IT, Ms. Thing. Make mama proud!

maybe i need to stand w/one leg up like that at all times?

jaxon, Saturday, 21 August 2010 00:40 (fifteen years ago)

It might help, yeah. Maybe you could just be in that pose on like a carnival float which yr wife could drive to wedding

I really think it is the best solution.

tehresa, Saturday, 21 August 2010 00:49 (fifteen years ago)

are you going to a wedding or a j. crew sample sale?

wear the killest suit you have and save that other outfit for yachting.

jaxon, Saturday, 21 August 2010 00:56 (fifteen years ago)

seems way too casual imo (nb: i know nothing about the setting), but if you're getting sick of wearing the same thing, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I tried to do something like this once at a summer outdoor wedding and regretted it - had a GREAT blue jacket and wore it with some lighter colored pants, button down shirt and no tie. It looked pretty good but I felt ridiculous when almost everyone else was wearing suits and I looked more like I was crashing the Playboy mansion.

they seem closer to what orig. guy was wearing.

plax (ico), Saturday, 21 August 2010 17:15 (fifteen years ago)

just remembered I did this look at my cousin's wedding last year. Wore blue gingham shirt, tan colored tie, yellow picket square, and blue boat shoes. Half the men were in suits and half were in Bahama shirts so I felt comfortable.

meth boyfriend (gr8080), Saturday, 21 August 2010 19:56 (fifteen years ago)

ya, i originally thought this was the wedding i'd do it at because bride/groom/friends are all super hipsters, but just realized it's gonna be pretty traditional greek orthodox wedding, so i'm gonna pass.

jaxon, Saturday, 21 August 2010 20:42 (fifteen years ago)

so disappointed.

tehresa, Saturday, 21 August 2010 20:52 (fifteen years ago)

I'm going to a hipster wedding in December and suggested attire is "vintage glamour."

Trying to decide if I should wear my NYE ensemble (far right):

outfit's rad minus the headwear imo

jaxon, Saturday, 21 August 2010 22:55 (fifteen years ago)

didn't you once have the option of embroidering something on the inside of one of your suits or tuxes? what'd you eventually get? i think my suggestion to you was "if found... i'm naked"

jaxon, Saturday, 21 August 2010 22:56 (fifteen years ago)

i think part of the problem w/ the original photos is the white shirt your wearing doesnt really work? mb a paler yellow or blue oxford wld work better?

Should probably start a new thread but:

I've lost a little weight since I got that jacket and it doesn't fit as nice as I'd like. How much can you take a jacket "in"? Thinking like 2-3 inches chest/ 4-5 inches waist.

meth boyfriend (gr8080), Saturday, 21 August 2010 23:12 (fifteen years ago)

also lose the belt. or at least that belt.

White Jeans Don't Have to Be for Hipsters
Gone are the times when wearing white jeans was for considered louche at best and criminal at worst. Gone, too, are the skinny-jean set's claim to skinny white jeans. Take it from the most stylish men in the world: the Italians, who wear white jeans exclusively, and now more than ever — rain or shine, no matter what the mercury reads. Try this: buy white jeans, make sure they're trim and not too long (get them tailored if necessary), wear them with a navy wool blazer (preferably with a soft shoulder) and some chukka boots. Bask in attention from intrigued women.

lol

three months pass...

http://fuckyeahmenswear.tumblr.com/post/1479708920/nature-vs-nurture-its-tough-to-say-when

http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lbd5biJUyd1qetbkqo1_500.jpg

Nature vs. nurture?

It’s tough to say.

When you’re DNA is this fucking crispy.

And as a young’n you kicked it in Pari.

Your kid probably geeks out over trivial shit.

Like butterflies.

Or clouds.

Or glitter.

My kid gets wide eyed.

When we discuss the merits of white jeans in winter.

Monochromatic palettes.

And well worn DB’s in exclusive colorways.

We took him out of school 2 years ago.

So he could blog full time.

His diffusion line for Heelys hits Target next month.

Apparently it’s Jil inspired.

I’ve only seen the sketches.

You probably heard him at SXSW.

Moderating a panel with Lil Gevi.

And that dude who created Mad Men’s son.

Talking about the merits of social media.

And musing on what it means.

To inspire a generation of designers.

Who made names for themselves.

Before any of these Rugrats were even born.

They say rents live vicariously through their seed.

I’d have to agree.

I tweet vicariously through him.

Because he has more followers than me.

While you’re in a Town & Country.

Stuck in traffic.

Taking your worthless brat to soccer practice.

I’m speeding in a Hummer limo.

With my kin.

And Uncle Karl.

Popping bottles.

Making our way to the front row.

This really shouldn’t come as a shock.

I mean.

He was conceived.

In Brunello’s booth.

At Pitti Uomo.

My meal ticket.

My only son.

The truth.

The future.

My legacy.

Steezus Christ.

My only son.
