Dudes with patchy facial hair: How do you manage it?

I've got seriously awful crustache + five-hair soul patch + a small colony of chin hairs + five or six random bastards spread throughout the underchin, and if genetics are any guide, this is how it's always going to be.

Guys with the contiguous facial hair don't have to worry too much about the super close shave, especially since three-day-stubble is all the rage, but if I go 18 hours without dragging a razor against the grain on my lip, it looks like I've been enjoying a lovely lunch of topsoil.

Aside from general tips/experiences/commiserations, I'm mostly asking how to keep your face as smooth as possible for as long as possible. I've tried lots of different things, but painful against the grain shaving is the only thing that gets it to the point where you can't see any hair anymore.

painful against the grain shaving it is. total shaving solution or a similar product helps makes this more bearable.

i would just like to say that i swear by shaving against the grain. the trick is you have to go with the grain first, and then against the grain to smooth it. best feeling ever.

You can shave in a way that's not against the grain? Of course I had to figure this shaving thing out myself; dearest father was too busy beingg coked out with tranny hookers in hotels somewhere to teach much while mother and I worried about where he was all night. As insane as that sounds, I wish it weren't true. ;[ and as much as that last part sound slike a joke, it's totally not.

I always do my stache straight down and then diagonal up. I've never been happy with shaving only one direction on anything but my sideburns

and btw I highly recommend shaving in the shower with hot water. in no time you'll have it down and never need a mirror again

the moustache part doesn't connect with the beard part. so i trim the moustache v tidy and clean up the natural growth line on my beard. looks alright. i haven't been clean shaven in about a year.

tho when i trim the top of my moustache (to prevent it from looking like it's growing outta my nose) i also shave with the grain then against the grain.

Unlike you Surm I have very light facial hair that's not that thick. I can get away with not shaving against the grain.
