Back-to-school shopping syndrome! And the things it makes you buy.

I was reading an article (maybe posted on ils? or on fb, i don't know) about the urge to go shopping at this time of year and what one ends up buying due to deeply ingrained childhood patterns, e.g., clothes we would have worn when we were 8-12 years old. We always got a few new things for going back to school in the fall, not a lot, but clothes that made going back to school more fun - hence the clothes I got being more fun than practical - but still everyday items of practical use, of course, except just slightly more weird/fun than my tastes at other times of the year ran to.

and so i find that through the years that pattern has continued.
today i found myself downtown on an entirely separate, non-shopping task and then suddenly shopping!
things i bought that i love but are just slightly weird/things i would have worn back to school ages 8-12:
- grey cotton sweater with big yellow roses on it!
- dark grey cotton sweater with small black horses on it!
- dark olive short skirt made mostly of lace! (banana republic even, who knew, and on sale)
- dark blue above-the-knee skirt with white stars on it!
lol!

totally did this, on labor day no less. two flannel shirts and two long-sleeve tees, two pair of jeans.

not gonna lie, I spent about $1,000 on cardigans, pants, skirts, tights, shoes and whatnot this month. Def felt that need for a back to school wardrobe for.. my office. But I was on a shopping ban for most of 2011, so it felt okay. But now I want a coat and Canada Goose coats (I thought I'd splurge) are $600 WHAT THE HELL??

I wish I had purchased more things that a younger version of myself might've worn but this year I just want to not be cold for once, so everything is warm and thus no cute girly skirts or anything (plus I can never find that sort of thing in size 16 which is APPARENTLY the rarest in the world, as far as I can tell).

Sigh.
