when we were looking at wallpaper i really loved this one:
http://image.architonic.com/img_pfm2-2/203/4937/moonpennies_black.jpg
but its like $300 a roll sooooo we decided against it.
this was our original pick but it we werent sure it would work and it took like 5 weeks to ship and was also p pricey:

crosspost to would style 2012:

anyway having spent a fairly dispiriting number of hours becoming a quasi-expert on wallpaper i can say that cole & sons makes some really nice stuff, romo makes some beautiful but incredibly unaffordable stuff and schumacher has some great patterns and they sell by the single roll.

I've seen that birch forest paper in a ton of apartment photos but it's always like one wall or a tiny foyer and you know it probably cost $400 to do just THAT much.

i think i told e this story already but when my bf and i went to the fanciest wallpaper store in toronto these two v yuppie women in their 30s wandered in carting a like eighteen-month old kid with them. one of the women proceeded to coordinate wallpaper ideas with her husband who was at work on the west coast over her cellphone. at one point she pointed at a roll of insanely priced velvet and gold thread romo paper that was like $700 a roll and asked for 'something thats this nice but like, cheaper'. oh man they lady who worked there made the best face. and this was the wallpaper they wanted w/ an almost toddler at home...

Oh dude I've looked as so many Schumacher papers, I tried to get my mom to use them for the computer room/office re-do but they ended up with some gross flowery thing instead.

yeah 'the woods' is really popular, its snobbish and sad but part of the reason we decided on another paper was just because its overdone, maybe? we only did one wall so it wouldnt have been too much but still.

bene have you seen chiyogami paper? they make really nice patterned paper you can use as wall decoration (not paper but framed). we used i think eight sheets to line the back of some IKEA bookshelves to make them less prefab/generic looking.

I don't think that's snobbish and sad, I think it's very sensible.
Love the idea of backing shelves with textured or printed paper. Right now I'm trying to get my mom to use sheets of grasscloth to back the built-in bookshelves my dad is going to make in The Children's Room that they're doing up. It's going to be nautical/beach-themed, grasscloth is perfect.

I don't know why she always asks my advice and never takes it.
ohhh that's so nice lamp! i do like the look of ikea bookshelves backed with patterns like that.

i've been doing the marimekko fabric on stretcher bars thing - i wish i could get better at sewing/upholstery for more ways to incorporate fabrics into my life. i will not be satisfied until everything in my house clashes with everything else.

I have that birch wallpaper ("woods") all over my hallway back home. Was gonna do just one tall wall but was convinced to put it everywhere and it's awesome. Wasn't *that* expensive in the huge scheme of things - got it in a Dulux center on a special discount day and also got mad Nectar points for it.
It is a bit overdone but I first saw it a v long time ago on Cribs and had my heart set on it, as it's perfect for our place. There is also a bar in our home town which has it everywhere in all the different colours.

Oh btw our walls aren't dead straight and the guy who hung the wallpaper said he couldn't sleep at night thinking about hanging the damn stuff what with all the vertical lines. There is a bit where it doesn't 100% match but you'd never notice.

I don't know what he does for a day job, people hang stripes in old houses all the time.
