Do people still use curlers for their hair or is this just something olds do? Everytime I send my daughter over to my mother-in-law's house, she comes back wearing curlers.
I'm curious about your ilxor experiences with curlers. I don't think my mom or sister or any female friends or girlfriends ever wore them.

I do from time to time, but they're a lot of work and don't give me much better results than my curling iron. It is important to note I first experimented with them at my Grandmother's house!

my hairdresser friend (who lives in SF and i keep telling just1ne to go to but she hasn't ;) ) is a genius with curlers - they're really good for building volume and for people whose hair doesn't hold a curl very well. i don't really use them often myself - i do pincurls sometimes though, which are similar in function! as has been discussed on another thread - but find that the curls from overnight rollers/pincurls last way longer than curls from a curling iron and don't require a lot of hairspray etc - though everyone uses hairspray etc. (i try not to bc i have skin reactions to all that stuff, but my hair holds a curl pretty well without)

I adoooooooore curlers, and pincurls, and hot rollers. All curlers. Wet set curlers give the best results with the least frizz and the best staying power, for sure.

I used to occasionally use the pink foam ones at night when I was a kid but haven't in years. I bought a curling iron a couple years ago but can never manage to use it without crimping the ends weirdly. That aside, my hair is sort of too short to really curl and it is so damn pin straight that it doesn't hold curls well. They fall out within a couple hours.
My mom used hot rollers when I was kid and her hair was longer. They always seemed to work well for her.

Do they even make hot rollers anymore? I feel like smelling set warming up would take me way back to being a girl and watching her get ready for work.

pro-tip i picked up from watching hair youtubes: keep the bottom 2" out of the curling iron
― just1n3, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 03:39 (thirteen years ago)
2" is like 1/2 my hair!! lol. Like I said it's really too short to curl. Sometimes I dream about growing it and getting a body wave because I read somewhere they're better now but I mentioned this to the lady who cuts my hair last time and she looked at me like I was insane.

FWIW E is able to acheive amazing volume on her short hair using just a brush, watching her blow dry her hair was amazing!

What do you MEAN, do they even make hot rollers anymore?? They're in the same aisle as the curling irons and blow-dryers!

x-post - lol! I do this thing where I take the hair from the top back of my head and roll it up in a big metal brush and blast it with the dryer and then let it sit for a while and set. Basically I use the brush as one big curler to do the shorter layers in the top of the back. I don't even think about it anymore but it must be sort of funny watching me walk around with a brush stuck in my hair for a while. I've nearly left the house like that while running late several times.
Laurel - I just never noticed.

yeah I definitely tried to do exactly what I'd seen you (and my hairdresser!) do with the roller, but because I am amaazing I just got it stuck in my hair and almost had to cut it out! Haha. Flat roots for me.
I curled my ends with my curling rod today actually, gives me some soft waves. Instant ~femininity~

aw just1n3, i forgot or just didn't realize that you live across the bay! yeah, you'd have to make a day-trip to of it, that's true... but you could go to the beach after! :)
i am medium-happy with my hair and its curls right now. i actually think i'm just going to get it cut really short on one side for summer.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 25 April 2012 16:48 (thirteen years ago)
i did a surprisingly good job of giving myself sort of side-swept bangs, so my motivation to get a professional hair cut has diminished significantly. might treat myself this summer though, in which case i WILL go to your friend. ytth is probably about to start new job in the city soon, so i will have more reason to be over there anyways.

who is this amazing hairdresser? not that it's any use to me, although I am getting in one final cut with my awesome lady literally the day before I fly :)
