I'm not very good at e-Bay - never managed to sell anything on it but I thought I'd wack it up. No idea about vintage clothes either. Any advice on how I should go about getting rid of it (and hopefully making a bit out of it, as it is a nice coat)?

short answer: it's worth what you can someone to pay for it, no more or less.

in terms of selling it on ebay, you can generally fetch a higher prices with better photos and descriptions. take measurements of the garment (chest, length, sleeve, lapel, etc) and supply them. maybe photo the garment lying flat (and fastened) to better show the shape of the coat. date the piece as accurately as possible, and indicate any uncommon details.

honestly, it might be in your interest to bring it to a consignment shop, where it would be priced and sold by someone familiar with vintage clothing. you might be able to get as much profit that way as you would selling it on your own, even less your consignment fee.

also you need to SELL what you're trying to sell! why would you say "all the same..." and mention the smell? of course it's slightly musty, it's vintage! and don't say "all the same", say "this incredible vintage item is in AMAZING condition".

Always someone "snobby" who collects those things who might compare it to some similar item they bought. May as well be up front about the must...if you think it's a beautiful item, tout that too!

Elmo OTM about measurements. Measure the thing three times. Get the material right.
