post thurston/kim breakup sonic youth sounds ... exactly the same!http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ZBTk9fu_fN0aside from that, mark ibold's presence here confuses me -- is he doing anything other than doubling kim's bass lines?
― tylerw, Tuesday, 15 November 2011 18:42 (thirteen years ago)
he's also dating thurston
― underrated erowid reports I have read (am0n), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 18:47 (thirteen years ago)
i know kim plays guitar on most of the more recent material, but for oldies sets like this, it seems like ibold is not doing a whole lot. sweet gig!
― tylerw, Tuesday, 15 November 2011 18:49 (thirteen years ago)
I was there in the crowd! But I don't believe this will be their last show. Kim walked off very quickly in the ending with Teenage Riot but Thurston stayed i the stage for some time and looked very emotional.

and also.... i don't know if i want to.
i like noisey guitars so maybe i am supposed to be obsessed with them. i knew someone who said he was related to thurston moore and he sucked. one of the worst people of all time.
― Treeship, Tuesday, 25 November 2014 04:42 (ten years ago)
i think it's only fair to hold that against the band.

Anyone ever heard the Sonic Youth folk do an admiration for Hawkwind. Rolling through the pines of Virginia jamming both Goo and Doremi Fasol Latido, I seemed to notice how similar the stoned gallop of "Lord of Light" is to many Sonic Youth numbers. It was more the groove and the drone than anything.

btw, there ws an interview with "Lost Voice Man" on the news last night, behind him was a wall of albums in frames. I saw Thriller, Unknown Pleasures, 1977 (Ash), and Sonic Youth's Goo.
So, hey.

speaking of the SY bandcamp, there are several live shows on there - anyone got a recommendation for a standout among them?
― alpine static, Tuesday, 1 September 2020 05:53 (four years ago)
If you could re-sequence/revise the track list for one Sonic Youth album, what would it be and how would you change it?
I’m going with Washing Machine, an album that’s near to perfect but slightly half-hearted about its desire to be psychedelic.
Here’s what I’d do:- cut “Junkie’s Promise”- cut “Panty Lies”- merge “Becuz” and “Becuz Coda” into a single song- would I cut “Skip Tracer”? Maybe- replace the 19:35 version of “Diamond Sea” with the ~25 minute long version from the CD5 - Bliss out
― Legalize Suburban Benches (Raymond Cummings), Sunday, 12 December 2021 18:25 (three years ago)
Skip Tracer is the second best track!
― a hallan shaker loon (dowd), Sunday, 12 December 2021 18:33 (three years ago)
I would skip tracer tooI’m more of a Lee fan in concept than in reality
― calstars, Sunday, 12 December 2021 18:44 (three years ago)
"Skip Tracer" is solid! Lyrics are kind of mean tho, SY don't really have room to be making fun of other bands' lyrics.
the title track is so amazing though, the middle section, particularly when they start playing that harmonics/feedback riff, is the ideal of what I listen to them for.
― JoeStork, Sunday, 12 December 2021 19:16 (three years ago)
A super sounding riff one might say
