The prejudice (I think it exists, maybe I'm making it up) against using online diary sites instead of "blogs" annoys me. I guess it's harder to get fancy fonts (though probably most "self-publishers" know a bit of HTML and besides it's not that hard to find out how to do it), but I've never seen a blog w/archiving as good as Livejournal/Diaryland. And if yr writing aticles, isn't what's in the archives going to be read by anyone who likes yr writing? Mostly the archiving on the blog sites I've seen is DISMAL and it's pretty much impossible to work out where something you might want to read could possibly be. LJ gives you like 10 entries a page, dland has heading for every archived entry. Pity I write such crap on mine, but it's ACCESSIBLE crap.
