"ergophobia" erg•o•pho•bi•a (hm-fb-) noun. An intense and persistant fear of work. Fear of rapid change, fear of misinformation, of being passed over in promotional hierarchies, of backstabbing, of being fired, of interpersonal conflict, of sexual harassment, of failing in one's own or other's expectations, and in general, all the performance anxieties that go along with a job.
Symptoms of ergophobia: Your fear of work can result in the following symptoms: breathlessness, dizziness, excessive sweating, nausea, dry mouth, feeling sick, shaking, heart palpitations, inability to think clearly, a fear of dying, becoming mad or losing control, a sensation of detachment from reality or a full blown anxiety attack.
Sufferers of ergophobia experience undue anxiety about the workplace environment even though they realize their fear is irrational.
