We expect change in technology -- why not in social structure?

The change in technology was expected in the larger sense.

When considering the smaller, more personal changes, they as well weren't anything moderators couldn't have forseen. You give a bunch of people a new button, guess what, they're going to push it. Instead of trotting out a tired "you're children, I will clean up your mess but bitch about it," a more human tack could have been taken: lols at human nature (Pash style), an okay-fine-I'll-clean-this, a minor admonishment, and a statement of hope that this won't still be happening in a couple weeks, because then that'd be annoying for all.

The change in social structure--9 equals, 9 overlapping but distinct agendas--could have been anticipated but not in detail. Software's tested, stressed, people try to imagine how it'll work, but until the human element is introduced we can't really know. And that's exciting. I'd hope that Keith is proud of how this first mod stress test went.
