You know, the ones that all do social sciences and simply MUST TELL EVERYONE their retarded opinions via the student magazines.

Yes, yes, we get it, you hate America for no valid reason other than you think it makes you look smart. Rage against the machine there, moron.
Oh look! You made another derogatory pun on George Bush/McDonalds/Microsoft. HOW FUCKING HILARIOUS AND CLEVER AND WITTY.

HEY CAN I BE YOUR FRIEND AND WE CAN GO PROTEST MCDONALDS AND DRINK COFFEE AND SEND EACH OTHER CLICHED CULTUREJAMMING IMAGES OVER THE INTERNET AND WEAR CHE GUEVARA SHIRTS AND WATCH GHOST WORLD AND AIRGEIBLHTBRWG NOR:HWNLUIWKHNMUIRLWNGUIRW

webber (webber), Monday, 23 September 2002 00:28 (twenty-three years ago)

You are so right! Really! This crap makes me think about going rightwing just to piss these people off. YOU WON'T CHANGE ANYTHING BY SHARING YR IDENTICAL OPINIONS W/YR "SOCIALIST" MATES! SHUT UP! Also there are still people who believe in communism, som eto the point of still respecting Lenin/Trotsky, ie the ones who never really had a chance to demonstrate what they'd actually do in power. Fuckwits. Ooooh yr boycotting Starbucks! That'll show em!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 23 September 2002 00:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I have to admit, anybody using using puns in a political discussion needs to be taken outside & pun-ished (AHAHA) accordingly. Sandpaper should be involved somehow.

Ess Kay (esskay), Monday, 23 September 2002 00:50 (twenty-three years ago)

but yeah, student newspapers should die.

Ess Kay (esskay), Monday, 23 September 2002 00:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes and if they wear a safety pin bracelet it is even worse!

Fergus, Monday, 23 September 2002 09:15 (twenty-three years ago)

'McShit' t-shirts purchased from The Reject Store should all say 'I am a moron' on the back except they don't need to. I guess the kids just need a way to express their preference for Wendy's or whatever.

alex (alex), Monday, 23 September 2002 10:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Marxi from MSU once wore his McShit teeshirt to mcdonalds w/o realising and wondered why they looked at him so funny...but yes it's Nexus editors and SWO on campus spoilt brats pretending to be working class heros that really let the left-leaning side down. jerks.

petra jane (petra jane), Monday, 23 September 2002 23:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Also, i liked Ghost World. Enid has cool clothes and one of those foldy-outty record players => she is my hero.

petra jane (petra jane), Monday, 23 September 2002 23:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Cynical teenage girls, that's a fabulous oddity... but GW looks like fun and I should be seeing it soonish, it's at the Rialto. So's Mulholland Drive, another plotdriven Lynch joint.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 00:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, GW is grebt (ha, the only movie I saw twice at the cinema). MD is also very worthwhile.

(petra have you read the Clowes comic?)

(also, the GW soundtrack is great, despite putting the graduation rap & Blueshammer, & leaving off the Buzzcocks).

Ess Kay (esskay), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 01:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes and i love love love it which is also why i love the movie. I want to not eat for a couple weeks so i can afford a copy. num.

petra jane (petra jane), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 08:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Grebt as Ghost World is, I know what Webber's talking about. Weren't they meant to be anti-fashion? Didn't they miss their own point?

alex (alex), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 10:31 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah it would have been better if it had Tori Spelling in it. She is such a great horse.

fergus, Tuesday, 24 September 2002 11:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Was GW meant to be anti-fashion? I didn't think it was, you can't call yrself "anti-fashion" if yr paying that much attention to yr clothes. The way they were dressed was pretty much indie fashion anyway. That movie was on really early on in the morning so I can't really remember. I'd like to see it again and I'd like the comic book.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 11:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh well people are always thinking they're "anti-fashion" I guess. If anyone was anti-fashion it was Seymour, he was great.

I don't really know what I'm on about anymore btw.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 11:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Anti-fashion or anti fashion-as-uniform-of-conformity? I mean, the tiger-print diner waitress and sailor-girl dresses were v v stylish but hardly Glassons[/gap/abercrombie and whatsit]-wear were they?

petra jane (petra jane), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 12:54 (twenty-three years ago)

ie, teenage "nonconformity" chic, I thought. But I haven't seen it. i should shut up!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 13:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I mean, the tiger-print diner waitress and sailor-girl dresses were v v stylish but hardly Glassons-wear were they?

They were more concerned about their image than anyone they spent the movie sneering at.
that doesn't exactly make you a bad person, but then how can you turn around and laugh at someone who listens to reggae?

webber (webber), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 21:41 (twenty-three years ago)

webber you have obviously not listened to reggae.

(haha seriously GW is very very white & quite possibly racialist, though this is probably entwined with US mind-body essentialism & surburban myths)

Ess Kay (esskay), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 22:21 (twenty-three years ago)

most of those socialists who dominate student papers are not intellectuals at all. they don't know dick.. as for ghost world, it made me sick. they totally butchered the comic and turned it into some creepy dirty-old-man wank fantasy. enids clothes i liked.

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 00:10 (twenty-three years ago)

five months pass...
What's wrong with expressing political views? What's wrong with trying to spread them via newsprint? Should everyone just sit down, and shut up, and let those with the most power rule the world? Should nobody try to make a difference because they think their actions don't matter, or won't be noticed?

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Thursday, 13 March 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I start a thread called "I Hate People Who Think Others Take An Intellectual Stance Just To Look Cool"?
I could, but I won't

oops (Oops), Thursday, 13 March 2003 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

There isn't anything wrong with expressing political views, but don't waste peoples time by just spitting up everything everyone else has said. Say something original for once, and you wont look like a pathetic asshole.

Lola Falana, Friday, 14 March 2003 05:04 (twenty-two years ago)

That's retarded. What if all the valid viewpoints have already been taken (which pretty much is the case)? Am I supposed to then advocate the use of trampolines to eliminate poverty or some such thing?

oops (Oops), Friday, 14 March 2003 05:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I think you should express the views that actually MEAN something to you, that make you feel something inside. I can't say that I honestly care if I'm "wasting somebody's time". I personally find a lot of the activities that these self-important, can't-be-bothered-to-stop-and-listen-type people engage in a complete waste of their time on this planet. And if they're that concerned about it, they can walk away from me or stop reading what I've written, but goddamnit don't tell me to stop expressing what I feel, even if it's not original. Maybe if you stopped to talk with me, you'd find that the train of thought that led me to my conclusion IS unique, and is perhaps something you can identify with. Or better yet, maybe by listening you can contribute ideas and we could reach a compromise.
I don't care if I come across as a pathetic asshole. If the opinion I'm expressing truely means anything to me, then I'm not going to give a damn what it's effects may be on my image.

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Friday, 14 March 2003 06:12 (twenty-two years ago)

(The irony is that I've heard all of what Lola says many many many times before)

oops (Oops), Friday, 14 March 2003 06:34 (twenty-two years ago)

mcdonalds sux

webber (webber), Friday, 14 March 2003 07:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahahaha... when I was a little kid , my best friend's mom was an anti-mcdonald's activist. We would go to McDonald's and when my friend's mom would get to the counter she'd slap down these pictures showing the kinds of cancer that people were getting from the place, because the french fries were cooked in beef talow. She'd also have newspaper and magazine clipping and she would rant and rave at the pimply sixteen-year-old kid working the register, waving the clippings around, and just generally causing a rucus. Then she would order two happy meals for me and my friend. She would only let her son eat three of his french fries and let me have the rest. I thought it was cool. I don't eat at McDonald's anymore tho, because the food tastes like over-processed cowshit to me now.

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Thursday, 20 March 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

eww. mickey d's.. sewage... i heard that they have changed from lard to vegetable oil for cooking their fries.. i would rather see a juice for life in their place.
