So this is where I do one of those annoying 'paste the AIM conversation that lead to this thread being started' things:

icy blend: she just talked to Chris knox which was way more annoying anyway
notyourhaircut: yeah
notyourhaircut: damn CK and his complete lack of style
icy blend: and his um
icy blend: "epilepsy"
icy blend: must be PRETTY SEVERE if he can play live
icy blend: w/all those lights
icy blend: that was a really desperate attempt to find something else annoying about him
notyourhaircut: well I don't like his music all THAT much
icy blend: I hate it
notyourhaircut: Not Given Lightly gets pretty annoying after 600 bread advert screenings
icy blend: cos I just picture him when I hear it
notyourhaircut: oh no!
notyourhaircut: I cannot respect a man wearing a singlet
icy blend: and his constant "oh it's my love song/commercial song/I don't like it" shit is annoying too
icy blend: woohah woohah
icy blend: good
notyourhaircut: I hate Chris Knox: the thread
icy blend: the THREADS, ho ho ho
notyourhaircut: hahaha
notyourhaircut: we should start that, for the brilliant joke
notyourhaircut: only Di might explode

So, talk about Chris Knox and his complete lack of style. Just DON'T MENTION THE MUSIC (well I guess you can, if you really want to.)

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 14 April 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

See when you live in Auckland, one of the many problems is the constant threat of Chris Knox turning up in his shorts and singlet. It's like living under a Nazi regime or something

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 14 April 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris Knox is a hazard!

Livvie Tapper (Livvie), Monday, 14 April 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

At the Snares he even had a guitar pick all ready to give to the band. What a helpful man.
Why is he so gross?

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Monday, 14 April 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I missed his Kraftwerk tribute at the BDO, because I was too busy worrying about being in the Boiler Room to see Kraftwerk at the BDO, even though the Tall Dwarfs' set finished about two hours before Kraftwerk were due to come on.

Damian (Damian), Monday, 14 April 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

There should be warning signs all around Grey Lynn, like a big orange singlet symbol... you know he DRESSES UP ESPECIALLY, of course, I've seen him in regular clothes when he isn't playing live...

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 14 April 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Btw I hope I didn't sound nastily anti-epilepsy or anything, I mean Neil Young has it

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 14 April 2003 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yuck I think I know the street he lives on. They should def fence off the area.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Monday, 14 April 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

He should be kept under house arrest or something. Also Ian Curtis had epilepsy.

Livvie Tapper (Livvie), Monday, 14 April 2003 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I like him ok too.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 14 April 2003 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmmm yeah, he had a couple of alright songs I guess. Anyway he was a better dresser then Chris Knox.

Livvie Tapper (Livvie), Monday, 14 April 2003 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah he was rocking the Hitler Youth look

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 14 April 2003 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

(thanks to Di for reminding me of that term)

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 14 April 2003 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

It suited him, though. The fascists were a stylish bunch, esp. Hitler w/ his little mustache and everything. There were no singlets on them!

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah, I used to have a German army shirt thanks to them

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

You should totally grow a mustache! Did you get accused of fascism due to yr shirt?

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it was the concentration camp I started up, mostly

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

(Actually I only wore it out once and took the flags off it anyway, i am not ACTUALLY a Nazi)

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

You just come off that way when people first meet you, right?

Livvie Tapper (Livvie), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

No I come across as a Stalinist

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean, I come across AS Stalin

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

That's many times cooler anyway, Stalin was the hip dictator. Hitler's mustache was pussy compared to his!

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 14 April 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, I just wanted to use "pussy" in a sentence.

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 14 April 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

you people are so mean and horrible.

di smith (lucylurex), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyway I should have said I started a police state or something, fascism doesn't = Nazism.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 04:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Also Ian Curtis had epilepsy. that explains a lot re the dancing.

Clare (not entirely unhappy), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

But Di, surely even you can't defend the singlets?

Re: Ian Curtis, I know way too many people who laugh at his dancing. I think it's GREAT, and I bet he can do the robot dance.

Livvie (Livvie), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 04:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i can defend the singlets. remember, i dressed up as him at a Kiwiana party once.

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 05:58 (twenty-two years ago)

eleven months pass...
Aww what a funny/nice thread. I'm off to kill myself.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 12 April 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

If you do I'll blame Chris Knox for your death.

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 12 April 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Kill him for my memory

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 12 April 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been meaning to do it for a while anyway.

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 12 April 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh bummer I just died, go kill Chris Knox

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 12 April 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i still don't know who chris knox is.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 12 April 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

oh wait, i think di told me once.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 12 April 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't all Grey Lynnites pointedly wear singlets and shorts and jandals and stuff? It's like, "I'm so laid back and down-to-earth, all that money and SUVs and hanging out at SPQR or wherever drinking $8 Heinekens hasn't changed me one bit!"

Minty (Minty), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Russell Brown, I'm looking in your direction here.

Minty (Minty), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

boo hoo
this thread makes me see I don't belong here!
but yeah, it's not like he really has some $160 shoes (etc - how much do converse or whatver cost these days anyway) that he secretly wears when he's not being Chris Knox. I mean, I dress like him (cheap scuzzy black jersey + jeans, black singlets) a lot myself...I think scoffing at his supposed lack of style would just fuel his pretensions (yes I do see his faults, I mean I used to read his Rant columns for fucks sake, bla blah bla blah).

I LOVE SINGLETS THEY ARE SEXY (cuspidorian), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I know I dissed a music person who rainy and justyn like (liz phair) but that was pretty superficial and she's not part of my/many of our's more immediate community - and this thread is not even just one thread it's like this big hounding roundup: the THREADS!

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

So you mean all this time I thought you were just a scuzzy dresser, but you were actually imitating Chris Knox?

Minty (Minty), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:37 (twenty-one years ago)

no, no, it's just an accident! actually I think I have an emergent um unscuzzy side now. I will be a part time fancy-pants.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

No clown pants please! Sorry to alienate you, don't go please.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder if Knox knows he's a style guru?

Minty (Minty), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

but half of Dunedin (excluding 99% of students) still dress jeans/black jersey!

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Hitler and the Nazis are one of my favourite subjects in history......they rock

CAss (CAss), Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I think they dressed too pretentiously. Their clothes were too tight & they should've worn jandals instead of boots.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

do u really think that they gave a shit as to what the wore? nope.

CAss (CAss), Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

chris knox is a fucking great musician.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

but he squanders his talents, it drives me up the wall; if ever there was someone in need of EDITING THEMSELVES - whilst keeping his "messy" creative style intact.
I don't see how anyone can deny he's an incredible SINGER.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i wouldn't know about the whole editing thing, i'm only familiar with the two tall dwarfs abums i own, which i can't find fault with. its such a fine line between being ones own worst critic and having confidence in ones art.
