I love Rough Trade

I think it might be my favourite label. Pity the Butthole Surfers and sloppy accounting (mostly by as always DISTRIBUTORS I think) sent them broke, but they had pretty much every great English band active during their existence and had nice covers and stuff. They nearly signed Scott Walker once.

I am going to the shop in London! I love Rough Trade too, my two favourite records at the moment are from them.

Livvie (Livvie), Thursday, 12 June 2003 01:07 (twenty-two years ago)

They signed the Fall TWICE. How rock is that? Livvie which records?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 12 June 2003 01:24 (twenty-two years ago)

The Fall! Those record = Terminals and the Vic Godard one (this is from memory but I THINK they are Rough Trade.)

Livvie (Livvie), Thursday, 12 June 2003 01:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Terminals should be on Raffmond, I think. Dist. by RT?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 12 June 2003 01:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, that's prob it. I'll look when I get home.

Livvie (Livvie), Thursday, 12 June 2003 02:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Whenever I'm not sure of buying a record seeing the Rough Trade label usually helps to convince me.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Thursday, 12 June 2003 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Young Marble Giants, Raincoats, Swell Maps, Subway Sect, Apartments, Robert Wyatt, Scritti Politti, etc. They didn't have the Slits or Wire, I guess. And they DID sign Everything But the Girl.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 12 June 2003 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

And the mighty GIST!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 12 June 2003 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

One of the rough trade shops in london is really difficult to find. it is like under a skatie boy shop.

Fergus Noodle (Fergus Noodle), Thursday, 12 June 2003 09:30 (twenty-two years ago)

andrew as it happens rough trade did put out records by the slits (@ least 1 single) and wire too (document & eyewitness, our swimmer, maybe more) hey & the butthole surfers thing aren't you thinking of touch & go or have the butthole surfers sued & ruined lots of record co's or something?

(doorag), Friday, 13 June 2003 02:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i went to the rough trade shop in london in um 1981, i got slates & grotesque by the fall & i forget what else

(doorag), Friday, 13 June 2003 02:27 (twenty-two years ago)

probably some crap

(doorag), Friday, 13 June 2003 02:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah the Buttholes messed them up in the late 80s or early 90s or something w/"Piough" or whatever it was called and some apparently not too hot solo records by most of the band and big advances and stupid stuff, all of it seems RT's fault, though given the later T&G situation maybe not. I'd forgotten about that Wire stuff! Ok Rough Trade rules England.

two weeks pass...
I'm sorry for de-releventising but I really thought you meant rough trade in it's original meaning and I was looking forward to the discussion. So now I'm disappointed. So start telling me about all those theiving sailors you slept with!

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Monday, 30 June 2003 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)
