LOADED

Ok this is a GREAT record, no it's not "VU and Nico" or "White Light/White Heat" or "Velvet underground". So? What is? So Lou wants to make a pop record, who fucking cares, he's pretty much created (w/John/Sterling/Moe/Nico/the Beatles) all the music most of us cared about up till a few years ago already, let him make something else. But does anyone dislike this album?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Nah ignore that, I was just being bored and stupid, but I'm interested in what people think of this record. I love it.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

And Cat Power pretty made a NEW gorgeous song out of an OLD gorgeous song on it.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

i like it okay, but i prefer the self-titled album. i always get a little bored by the second half of "loaded."

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i haven't heard it.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

"I Found A Reason' is the Cat Power cover, right? That song is so gorgeous, both versions. I haven't heard the rest of the album though.

Livvie Tapper (Livvie), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I really like it

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

"who loves the sun" and "sweet jane" are pretty much perfect though.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I get Who Loves the Sun in my head quite a lot.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Thursday, 6 November 2003 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't agree that the velvets and the beatles were solely (or even mainly) responsible for most of the music we love, btw.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Thursday, 6 November 2003 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I really was being dumb when I did that, it was very late and I was pretty bored. Anyway, if I was speaking for anyone it was myself.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 6 November 2003 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Pretty MUCH I meant, sorry. And yeah it's easily my least favourite VU record, (except I haven't heard 'Another View' yet, not that that really counts), but I think it's badly underrated and should happily sit alongside the other three. Plenty of 90s indie types used to hassle it to me (and so did Chris Knox, he loathes it but he would I suppose, it's so NICE. It's a pity he's unlikely to see this thread), and pretty much discount it, and listening to it now that seems really unfair.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 6 November 2003 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

surely theres a way chris knox can see this thread. shayne carter saw hamish's thread about wanting to root him. hi chris! i sang with you, you OWE ME A CD.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

The best thing on any record that is closely connected to Lou Reed ever is the backing vocals by Bowie on Satellite Of Love, near the end when Bowie shoots up an octave and goes aaaaOOOOOOOO.

Damian (Damian), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

dear chris i love you please tour melbourne and let me support you not crapola cassette or brunettes thx bye

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

jim dude, you SHOULD support chris.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 6 November 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

dang straight! i even think so when sober

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 7 November 2003 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
I just bought this and I'm listening to it now and hey guess what you're right, this record is GREAT.

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 12 January 2004 06:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't get it, what don't people like about it exactly? I'm only up to "Head Held High" so there could be something awful to come I suppose. But just because it's NICE? I think that's kinda great, Lou Reed is pissy enough usually so let him not be for a change. I guess I don't have the self-titled one to compare it with, what's so much better about that one?

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 12 January 2004 06:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Loaded is a fantastic album. People who don't like it are stunted degenerate halfwitted swine. Plus which, they're ugly.

Minty (Minty), Monday, 12 January 2004 07:30 (twenty-one years ago)

The s/t one is like more GLOOMY and ARTY, tho not by much on the latter at least. People are really stupid.

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Monday, 12 January 2004 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

the s/t has better songs and, more importantly, a better picture on the cover.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 12 January 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

also it's not nice to make fun of stunted degenerate halfwitted swine, they're very sensitive about that sort of thing

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 12 January 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Serves them right for bagging Loaded! Dribbly little mongols.

Minty (Minty), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah the cover art for Loaded could get better. I can't wait till I get home to my own record player and listen to it properly.

Livvie (Livvie), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It's kind of impressively horrible coverart, tho, like 'Country Life' or something

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the Country Life cover in a totally unhorrible way! The worst cover art is that Dandy Warhols ripoff of VU & Nico, not because it's an imitation but because it's just UGLY.

Livvie (Livvie), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

They're just boobs, Livvie. You can just look down and BOOM yr very own 'Country Life' cover! I still say it's awful (in a good way yes)

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

"Boom"?

Minty (Minty), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes? Did I stutter?

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you trying to say I have two sets of boobs?

Livvie (Livvie), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

You're wrong.

Livvie (Livvie), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I still think "Boom" is the wrong sound effect.

Minty (Minty), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, ZAP!

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know if hearing "ZAP" every time I look down is going to be good for my peace of mind.

Livvie (Livvie), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Ok, CALM OCEAN NOISE!

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

"Swoosh... swoosh... arr, matey!"

Minty (Minty), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Avast it's boob pirates, after Livvie's treasure chest!

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Ok this is getting really disturbing

Minty (Minty), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

OH GOD I'll never sleep peacefully again!

Livvie (Livvie), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Just stop looking at yr damn tits

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

But the "calming ocean noise" is so soothing!

Livvie (Livvie), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

"Swoosh... swoosh... squawk! Squawk! Fooooog-hooooorn!"

Minty (Minty), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
I take it back, fuck it, of course the aforementioned dorks were mostly responsible for what we liked/like. Who cares? Why bother being defensive? I read "The Aesthetics of Rock" when I was 13, I don't USUALLY like to trumpet that. ALSO "I Found a Reason" is supernaturally gorgeous.

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

the aesthetics of rock? like, the whole thing? from beginning to end?

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 27 February 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

also you're still wrong, sorry andrew.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 27 February 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Why is he wrong?

Livvie (Livvie), Friday, 27 February 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

No from the end to the beginning

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Friday, 27 February 2004 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I was a pretty dumb kid

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Friday, 27 February 2004 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I like how smoothly I slipped that wannabe showoff point in

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Friday, 27 February 2004 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm prob "wrong" cos I didn't include James Brown

The Fifth Funkateer (Andrew Thames), Saturday, 28 February 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

and louis armstrong, sly stone, bob dylan, elvis presley, phil spector, george gershwin, and about a million others

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:22 (twenty-one years ago)

"the beatles and the velvets created most of the music we care about" => we only care about pavement and cheap trick

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure what to take from that except that you think Cheap Trick and Pavement were the only two bands the Velvets/Beatles EVER influenced, which is just silly. You were prob. joking but still. Haha Andrew it wasn't THAT smooth, you poser! Still pretty impressive though, the best thing I ever did at thirteen was get into Psychic Hearts.

Livvie (Livvie), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

And yeah "I Found A Reason" is truly lovely. I don't like "Who Loves the Sun" so much though.

Livvie (Livvie), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

AND I STILL don't get why Loaded and Country Life are all that similar coverwise, they seem awful in completely DIFFERENT ways to me.

Livvie (Livvie), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Pinup prettygirls (basically) becomes straight up kinda soft porn, NY drugtakers becomes NY subway w/SUSPICIOUS LOOKING (DRUG?) SMOKE coming up out of it. It kinda seems like w/both they sort of gave in to/mocked a little the ideas people/they had about their images, tho the Roxy one was way more specific (it only applied to their covers so you could prob take it more ARTISTICALLY). Justyn I wasn't exactly creating a history of all pop! Yr replies are as UNDERstated as mine was OVER, so you prob have some idea what I meant. It doesn't matter much anyway.

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 29 February 2004 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean you surely don't think that's what I meant by making a sarcastic aside, or hey maybe you do who cares

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 29 February 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Besides CHEAP TRICK! MAN! CHEAP TRICK!

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 29 February 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay the subway/drugs things makes that a bit more clear, I think, I thought maybe there was some connotations to that cover I was missing. So you win, well done! Now you should convince me re: "How Soon Is Now", if you CAN.

Livvie (Livvie), Sunday, 29 February 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

It's... a GOOD SONG

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Monday, 1 March 2004 02:51 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah andrew i was sort of in snotty-pedant mode that night, sorry bout that. i shouldn't be one to talk seeing as i'm prone to making statements like "daphne and celeste are the only good thing to come out of britain since 1066."

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 1 March 2004 07:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah well I wasn't in an amazing mood when I revived this, you'll be shocked to learn

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Monday, 1 March 2004 11:37 (twenty-one years ago)

speaking of daphne and celeste, i have a video with "ooh stick you" on it, so up your butt with a coconut.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Up yr nose w/a garden hose

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

webber (webber), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

In the 60s everyone wrote love songs DIRECTLY TO DRUGS.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 9 March 2004 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
No-one got that, I don't think. Not that I blame them.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 2 May 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Wasn't very funny anyway

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 2 May 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Uh I got it after you explained it to me. That's prob. little comfort, though. I have a copy of The Velvet Underground to listen to now! I will probably report back!

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 3 May 2004 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)
