I'm gonna be in New Zealand for the next few weeks and want some tips on where I could catch some decent shows - a certain electric sound of jim over at ILM suggested I pop over here and ask around...?

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 6 November 2003 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Where in New Zealand are you gonna be?

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Thursday, 6 November 2003 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahh we're gonna go all over and see as much as possible, our itinerary looks like this:

Auckland: Nov 14th-15th
Rotorua: Nov 15th-16th
Paihia: Nov 17th-20th
Kaikoura: Nov 21st-23rd
Christchurch: Nov 24th-25th
Fox Glacier: Nov 26th-27th
Queenstown: Nov 28th-29th

Lotta gettin around, but I don't have any idea where to look for hip shit in any of the cities, not even the bigger ones like Christchurch.

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 6 November 2003 03:29 (twenty-one years ago)

One word: DUNEDIN
Two: Dunedin ROKKIN'

Come to me baby

Menelaus Darcy (Menelaus Darcy), Thursday, 6 November 2003 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

When in Auckland, you MUST visit Real Groovy Records. As far as shows, the Kings Arms Tavern is one possibility.

Damian (Damian), Thursday, 6 November 2003 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I realise how tedious that last answer will appear to Aucklanders, but hey...

Damian (Damian), Thursday, 6 November 2003 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Saves me posting it! Shakey RG is on Queen St, which is pretty hard to avoid. It's up towards the top. It kicks ass.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 6 November 2003 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks for the tips guys!

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 6 November 2003 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

As far as Christchurch is concerned, you might find hip shit in Echo and Galaxy Records, both of which are but a few doors apart from one another. They are both fab.

Damian (Damian), Friday, 7 November 2003 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

what damo said.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Friday, 7 November 2003 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Friday, 7 November 2003 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm from San Francisco - I have a soft spot for a lot of the Flying Nun stuff, but mostly I just wanna get a sense of the music scene while we're in NZ.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 7 November 2003 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

haha I in my capacity as representative of NZ will trade you Real Groovy for Amoeba; drool.

if yr in auckland friday/saturday . . . hmmmn, there's an avotor/conray gig; um a fairly schizo band from wellingtron called cherry . . . should be something on at the paradise or eden's bar.
. . . ask closer to the time, I guess.
hey hey hey I live on KARANGAHAPE ROAD, right in the middle of everything - come & visit! I'll show you a good time!

duane, Saturday, 8 November 2003 01:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't tell if y're being sarcastic or not doo, prob not, considering you have the best rec collection I've ever seen.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Saturday, 8 November 2003 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I was impressed by Chch record/CD stores, and totally flabbergasted by the fact that I bought 154 at a Sounds store there. A SOUNDS STORE.

Damian (Damian), Saturday, 8 November 2003 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

two great things that friends of mine have picked up for me in christchurch: duane got me bratmobile - the real janelle, anton got me the first sleater-kinney album. and i picked up most of my t rex records there.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

What time do you get in? Maybe we could see you on Saturday or something.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, that'd be cool. What time do you leave Ak for Rotorua? We can show you RG or something if you like.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 13 November 2003 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

It'll probably suck but it's worth a look. We can eat dinner if you want too.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Thursday, 13 November 2003 07:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 17 November 2003 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)
