this song is supposed to make women feel strong and empowered, right? then how come i feel sorta empowered and at the same time HOPELESS and SAD when i hear it? any ideas?

I don't know the song, but if by "empowered" you mean a feeling of greater freedom, that by no means precludes feelings of hopelessness and sadness. In fact some people think that feelings of hopelesness inevitably flow from the knowledge of how ridiculously free people actually are. I don't actually agree, but there you go. Just a theory.

the entire album is about transcending (thru the mind) the glum grey sexist fun-hating real world into a marvelous greater realm in which anything is possible (see "eau d'bedroom dancing" and "les and ray" in particular): the poignance of this is that the real world is still there when you wake up.

haha thanks guys. i suspect you have hit the nail on the head, j.

because the idea of femminism is sad as fuck, as in pathetic sad, you want sexism and repression go back to before the 60s. dammit. hah, i've just jumped to a conclusion here that it's a femmist song so...bleh:D AND, i haven't spoken on here for a while:/

yeah it is a feminist song. the early 70s feminist movement brought about political and legislative changes, but laws and bills don't = sexual equality. sexist ideologies are still very rampant.

I do not care if it's feminist I just like leaping about to it when I am drunk. So for a leaping about drunk song it scores. 8/10. (perhaps 9)

I'm drunk.

Sorry for ignoring your question.

maybe because lists have always been boring and a bit depressing?

black plastic (black plastic), Friday, 14 November 2003 04:36 (twenty-one years ago)

if you think about it, everything's a list. like, sentences are just lists of words.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 14 November 2003 06:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i like lists, but only if they are filled with stuff i agree with.

I like people who worship me, but only if I agree with them.

(It's true!)
