I know you do too. So spill. Today everyone was wearing my socks.

Alex, Monday, 16 September 2002 11:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I hate the way it's full of morons. I also hate the way the girls seem to all walk slowly and talk on cellphones too much. It's dumb.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Monday, 16 September 2002 11:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, whoever said uni was for smart people only obviously never went there. Actually yes they did, because they're a moron.

That made no sense, Alex.

alex, Monday, 16 September 2002 11:15 (twenty-three years ago)

It's more fun if you don't bother w/essays

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 16 September 2002 11:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Also getting up before about 11 is a curse.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 16 September 2002 13:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey at least you're not at polytech! It's high school for old people!

petra jane (petra jane), Monday, 16 September 2002 13:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Well I'm about to leave for university goody.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Monday, 16 September 2002 22:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmmm. Up at one pm. I'm a good student. Unfortunately I also hate being a dropout.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 00:49 (twenty-three years ago)

and i have this to look foward too...

bri (bri), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 05:58 (twenty-three years ago)

being at uni is better than working.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 16:51 (twenty-three years ago)

yup! It's really hard to get fired for a start. And the hours are a lot better.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 22:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I hated it so much I changed course a few times & dropped out. Bah. Bloody (expanding) middle-class aspirational high-school-substitute etc etc etc.
University towns are classic tho.

Ess Kay (esskay), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 22:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I dunno, you don't get paid for going to university unless you count living costs loan.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 08:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey kids stop whinging - i get to do GROUP ASSIGNMENTS! PH34R!

petra jane (petra jane), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 10:35 (twenty-three years ago)

so do i petra, plus it's uni.
i lose.

webber (webber), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 13:06 (twenty-three years ago)

i hate university. its so godam repititious. and whats with assessed class discussion anyway? it disadvantages shy people, and secondly no-one says anything you haven't already thought about. i'm not learning anything in this bitch. why do i have to have a career? why can't i be on the dole for the rest of my life? why do i have a loan thats going to eventually end up more expensive than a house? why am i such a tool?

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 00:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Thats cause you're still taking arts papers. Just say no to arts papers.

hamish (hamish), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 04:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So what should I/we etc do? Really. I'm lost.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 12:08 (twenty-three years ago)

i don't know. i'm working on a solution.

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 26 September 2002 00:57 (twenty-three years ago)

you should all do maths degrees. The world needs more mathematicians.

hamish (hamish), Thursday, 26 September 2002 01:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I was pretty good at maths for quite a while. Why does the world need mathematicians?

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Thursday, 26 September 2002 08:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I like university now that my lecturer has gone INSANO!! Glamour is real!

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Thursday, 26 September 2002 09:22 (twenty-three years ago)

because they find solutions to problems decades before anyone has realised that the problems existed and because they they go insane when giving lectures all the time (maybe your Womens' studies lecturer should switch to maths - she'd fit right in).

hamish (hamish), Thursday, 26 September 2002 11:07 (twenty-three years ago)

i tried doing a maths degree, then i realised i was shit at maths.

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 26 September 2002 23:16 (twenty-three years ago)

What the world needs is people good at maths doing physics degrees & then working in biology!

University is supposed to make people more and more smart, clever, intelligent, open minded... Do you know what? University does not make anyone more smart, more clever nor more intelligent! it just causes students to memorize details! So, being more smart has little relation with going to uni. Hitler was really smart but i dont think he has master's degree or Phd...

pimp, Wednesday, 5 February 2003 14:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Further, some of the bitches in my uni have 4,00 or 3,84 GPA... But, I swear that they really dumb!!! they cannot perceive the world from different perspectives, nor can they comment on something they dont know!!! how do they have 4,00 gpa? well, THEY MEMORIZE! they really have no brain! believe me!

pimp, Wednesday, 5 February 2003 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

That the students in universities are dumb DOES NOT MEAN the people who has no university education are not dumb! They are also idiots too! Then, who is not dumb? I M NOT DUMB... WHY? hahahaha, dont even hope that i will tell this. i wont tell the secrets of being smart... Well, but, if u really need help, ok, i will... my real e mail is this: edward10500@yahoo.com

pimp, Wednesday, 5 February 2003 14:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I think you're talking about 'book smarts', pimp. Ran into a lot of those girls you describe throughout my education. Guys that are stupid, however, seem to have no desire to do well in school.

Quit your bitching about school, though. As soon as its over you'll be wishing it wasn't.
Okay, maybe it'll take a year or two of living in what I like to call "the real world" to realize how good you had it while in school.

Oops (Oops), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 16:03 (twenty-three years ago)

hey oops i did it again, what? i do very well in school (university).
However, there are people who do better than me in uni. But, believe me or not, they are toooooooooooooo dumb to be! And, real world? well, last semester was too real to be. 460... 465... 425... oh no, it must have been a nightmare.

pimp, Wednesday, 5 February 2003 17:19 (twenty-three years ago)

My second paragraph wasn't directed at you, pimp. Trust me on this one, though: school is a piece of cake. If you're stressed out there, I shudder to think how you'll deal with the rest of your life.

Oops (Oops), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 17:57 (twenty-three years ago)

oh i see, yeah "Oops" i did it again, i know school is a piece of cake. However, this does not mean we should love it. There will be lots of m****f**ker idiots in the business life. But, there are also dicksucker dumbs in the uni life. So, what to do? Any solution?

pimp, Wednesday, 5 February 2003 18:04 (twenty-three years ago)

In the words of Horace Andy, don't let problems get you down.

Oops (Oops), Wednesday, 5 February 2003 19:21 (twenty-three years ago)

ok, i m off now, lets continue tomorrow

pimp, Wednesday, 5 February 2003 20:44 (twenty-three years ago)

pimp, Friday, 7 February 2003 21:46 (twenty-three years ago)

i analyzed the world, and i realized that i love the world

i also have a deep hatred for it

Oops (Oops), Friday, 7 February 2003 23:24 (twenty-three years ago)

i still hate university. i am counting down the days till summer. maybe the university will give me lots of money. i would probably still whinge about it though. such is life. someone should give me a record deal, then i wouldn't have this problem.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 5 October 2003 07:09 (twenty-two years ago)

School starts tomorrow. Yuck.

I'm angry because last week on Monday a certain lecturer cancelled her lectures due to illness, but then took a lecture on Wednesday and seemed FINE. Now this Monday she cancelled her lectures again and won't be giving out lecture notes til next week. Both those lectures were on Emily Dickinson who I planned to write my essay (which is due this Friday) on and now I probably can't. I bet it's just cos of daylight savings. HOW I LOATHE UNIVERSITY.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Sunday, 3 October 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

At least I checked my email and found out about it before getting up and going to uni on a rainy day. Nice one Cecil.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Sunday, 3 October 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

man, you guys suck. working sucks more (apart from the whole, having money thing.. thats nice).

chris andrews (fraew), Sunday, 3 October 2004 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i quite like university now that i can pretty much do what i want and have a steady income. still, not looking forward to next monday... have to tell the entire music department what i've been up to all year in a seminar and make it sound roolly intellectual-like. i bet the lecturers all ask me mean questions and pick holes in me for using too much feminist theory and not enough musicology.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 4 October 2004 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

so some kind of 'college-movie type sock-it-too-the-dean-with-rock'n'roll hi-jinx _isn't_ in order?

damn

being at uni makes me wish i was a blue whale or in a mental instiution, both those lifestyles seem like a better option than uni and the inevitable having to work and lead a normal existance. (apart from getting caught in fishing nets and harpooned like whales do, or being locked in a secure unit cause that'd be damn scary) I looked forward to uni so much, but it's a con, it jsut leads you toward the monotony of everyday working life!!!

Ra, Wednesday, 11 January 2006 21:08 (twenty years ago)

i start my second semester of uni tomorrow, the first one was great so i expect this one'll be good too.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Thursday, 12 January 2006 08:37 (twenty years ago)

I hate it so much I didn't do a whole bunch of papers and now I'm NEVER going back! Well, maybe never.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Thursday, 12 January 2006 10:26 (twenty years ago)

well at least in a job you get paid, unlike university which generally leaves you a billion bux in debt.

awesome is as awesome does (lucylurex), Friday, 13 January 2006 01:28 (twenty years ago)

do you know what sucks? transcribing interviews. i'm so over it.

Students. dont you just hate the typical student. Why must they moan all the time about being in debt when they spend it all on booze and takeaways and half of them don't even have a part time job while they're at uni? They are all little pawns in the governments game, institutionalised and blinkered to the real problems in the country. They have no concept of the world outside loans, overdrafts, essays and partying.

Students need to grasp the reality of life. Studentification of many towns is an overal degredation in many respects. The numerous fast food outlets, kebab shops and cheap bars does nothing to brighten a town. Students either complain that being a student is hard (debts, essays, disserations) or go on about how good it is cus 'i dont have to work' i can get up at 1PM and no one cares, i can drink and get pissed everry night! its great! All of which goes to show that studentism is nothing more than an exercise is childish, misguided behavior. Students are often quoted as a burden to society, but it is society and social expections from middle manigerial mothers and fathers and grammar schools that has EXPECTED an individual of any intelligence to go to University. What a sorry world we live in, where the integrity of a persons future working life is based on weather or not he go out into the world and did things his own way, or weather he munched on kebabs, drank cheap beer and commonly got up at 1PM. Oh and by the way, the latter would be seen by society as the better person. Ive seen friends of 26 at university doing Phds and still acting like children, mentally and physically. Its about time students gained a real perspective on life and its opportunities before blindly jumping into University life, dont take the laziness, bordom and monotony as a good thing, as I did, it will ultimatly drag a person down.

University is so over-rated! I am half way through my degree and I am so over it. I would much rather be working... Work has it's downsides, but at least it's hands on and you're doing stuff that actually matters on some level. University is just an abstract, boring concept.

I don’t like it either, the people are so god damn stuck up and rich. My family has got a lot of money but I don’t go around rubbing it in everyone’s face. Don’t worry, uni isn’t about being smart, it’s about having a lot of money. As far as people go, most are superficial, arrogant, stuck up, selfish, rude and boring. As far as learning goes, I am learning a lot and the stuff I learn is very useful and important. But it seems to come at a price. I hate uni! For a lot it's just an expensive social centre.
