Oh that's a real pity buddy

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Nothing good lasts forever tho as the Undertones say

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

The new Brunettes song is bad even for them. I'd be disappointed if it was uhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmm who ARE the standard dull indie bands left? Beta Band just broke up! B&S got Trevor Horn to produce, I dunno if they count, who cares it sounds about 7 years old and so DULL and those "ooh the GIRL'S pushing the DUDE around" things in the video are just so INDIE and WUSSY and to be honest KINDA CREEPY, oh maybe I should blame that for my resolute failure to dig a boring chord change supporting a boring tune w/some VERY SLIGHT AND TASTEFUL and boring distortion and fuck guys INDIE ROCK DIDN'T MAKE IT IN 1996 it's not gonna make it NOW. Actually I'm being unfair, as I don't even remember the tune. Perhaps it didn't have one. Sorry Brunettes if that's the case, continue to be wary of jeans! Yr right, people in uh SLACKS and SKIRTS are so cute and hot and SIXTIES and yeah yr Jonathan Richman sure right this way

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Oooh I think I might have to steal some tobacco

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Also I'd like to know if anyone is a little dubious that Black Sabbath were the first British Heavy Metal band (I don't know when Deep Purple got going but LZep and Cream seem better candidates at least in terms of like RESEARCH or something, ROOTS, BS were JUST HM w/not much else involved and Camilla annoys me badly)

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOO smart

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Also it's a bit annoying the Brunnnnnnnnnnnes have rerecorded some of their EARLY and more or less ELITISTLY UNAVAILABLE TO MOST ALL (well there were 12 copies of that "Mars Loves Venus" lathe 7" sold at Crawlspace, I could've/should've got one prob but they were pretty annoying even then) and MUCH BETTER I THINK stuff to make their new album more appealing. Oh well, who fucking cares. The last time I saw them live they were like that early loudish Modern Lovers thing and it was actually pretty great! It was a year or more ago (prob WAY more) and I've mentioned it too many times already. Elisabeth was there too, she liked it also.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

J. looks just like my cousin Richard. I do not. Perhaps THIS is the source of my fury? No it isn't actually

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey at least they put out records, we just screw around w/drummachines in front of the Tv

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry everyone it's not yr fault I live in Ak

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd pay for a sortedout version of me and E. messing around w/guitars/pedals/drummachine today ahead of their record tho, esp if someone else can be bothered doing it

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Well THAT'S a little arrogant!

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah really credit our stupid big collection of equipment if you like but a lot of it sounded GREAT. Time to DO SOMETHING, oh dear.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll believe it when I hear it tho

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Someone tell me to buy "Sladest" tomorrow, or convince me not to, either way. It looks GREAT.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

It was maybe 2 years ago that gig! I think so. The best bit was when they covered that Xanadu song anyway.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

BUY SLADEST. the good thing about being in cromwell is that we don't get C4 here, so i've managed to convince myself that camilla is just a collective hallucination of most of new zealand. i do not like the brunettes. they say stupid things and their music sux. i like that old 7" duane has, and thats about it.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

andrew you should review more music when you're hanging out for a durry. its funny!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

OH NO NO CIGARETTES. What a catastrophe. That Brunettes video has NICK in it, it took me ages to work out it was him cause he's like normal weight and none of his hair has fallen out and he looks HEALTHY and it kind of justifies me thinking he was ATTRACTIVE in maybe like 2003 when I first ever saw him but now NOT AT ALL, I guess he must have still been in okay health then, it's weird to think how bad he's gotten. Also I KNOW him, that's a deterrent if ever there was one. The song sucks though I agree though I never liked the Brunettes, too WUSSY and INDIE. And not even on Flying Nun. Are they? Andy your cousin Richard sounds hot. Oh yeah Sladest totally rules, I hope you're out buying it right now.

Livvie (Livvie), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

No it's raining! HAHA TWO YEARS AGO oh man we never do ANYTHING. Not having C4 must be kind of a huge relief, Di.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

He lives in Chch Livvie, do you want his number

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh wait, he's married. Sorry. I got some Marlboros tho! I should be getting dutyfree tobacco tonight too so I'll bring what I don't smoke (prob quite a few really) down w/us

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I'm gonna buy "Sladest" today then, totally. That one guy's hair kinda scares me a bit, more than any haircut since Belinda on the cover of the Go-Gos "Talk Show"

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Black Sabbath as the first British heavy metal band is pretty uncontroversial isn't it? &yeah I guess picking them over Zep would be more to do with the way they look and their subject material than their sound per se, but Cream? You're joking, surely.
Anyway, maybe there were British heavy metal bands before Sabbath, but given that it was a C4 audience it was probably a safe enough thing to say, I mean Camilla wasn't to know that there were nitpicking nerds in the advanced stages of nicotine withdrawl hanging off her every word.

Minty (Minty), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't know you smoked

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not joking about Cream at all, man!

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Did anyone read the horrible Listener interview w/the Bs? It was written by "Neil Young" who I don't think's ever written anything for them before and was wussy enough that he found lots of the record SCARY. Why people buy into their stupid image I don't understand, man. Anyway Neil was a whiny suckup who sounded like he wanted to do both of them

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i read it.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Thought you might've. The Bs didn't come across well either.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I was gonna ask for his number! Fuck marriage, man. Uhh what guy in Slade do you mean? Their haircuts are all a bit dubious. Woah I'm listening to Talk Show RIGHT NOW, just got back the records that were in my car. Hey I think that my problem w/ Camilla IS that she's not nerdy enough - I mean not outwardly but like she doesn't seem to ANALYSE anything much and all her "Guides To..." are just fucking bland and like WHERE'S THE CRITICISM, I wanna see some THOUGHT in these things. Her one about the MC5 was so, I guess, NAIVE. Maybe she's just not SMART enough for me, no one ever is.

Livvie (Livvie), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 04:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i think you're right, livvie. when she isn't getting pretty major facts WRONG, she just comes across as though she doesn't put any thought into it.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 06:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Neil Young has written for the listener before. Few arts articles offer more horrors than Brunettes press.

C.R.E.E.P., Wednesday, 4 August 2004 08:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Ok he has, good. I'm glad it wasn't really NEIL YOUNG, at least.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Camilla lists when records came out and when/a guess at why they broke up that's about it, right? The one/two "GUIDES" I've seen, anyway. Hey Di yeah I guess you know but that's the record I like (a bit) too, that 7". It's lucky/cool Duane has it. Unless he got sent it free, in which case it's not really LUCKY.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Livvie undermine the fascist institution of marriage all you want but please don't start w/my poor cousin and his so far as I know v happy marriage, he's nice. Also I might be slightly hurt.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I meant the guy w/the creepy Eno style sortof fringe but looking really weird and wrong on a blokey English bloke one. Btw everyone I bought "Sladest" yay and so far I fucking adore it. Yeah Anton I know I was being a dork about Camilla's quiz but like I said she's ANNOYING and y'know "Guide to..." my ASS (not that I'd let her near my ASS anyway)

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope she never reads this, she might be gutted

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

NO SLEEP would be an acceptable alternate title for this thread I think

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

E. yr right yeah the Xanadu cover was so the highlight of their show, I wish it was on tape somewhere. I miss when Xanadu was actually close to DOING SOMETHING. Also I miss Tim, obv.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

first british heavy metal band = THE KINKS!!

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

(also first british PUNK band hurrah)
(i.e. "you really got me" = punk, "all day and all of the night" = metal)

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh man I'd agree but really if you knew about the host we're discussing you'd prob cry, I nearly have. Cream was almost pushing it, I was so into proving her wrong tho

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

"IT'D BETTER NOT BE BLACK SABBATH", that was my worst case scenario. And it happened. God good to see someone other than ME posting

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Obv I'd agree in my own right, hey does "All Day" have Jimmy Page on it?

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i used to think so, but i did some quick research and apparently not. he was in the studio, but they didn't ask him to play.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I can never remember which songs he's been rumoured to play on, mostly cos as far as British r'n'bish 60s ones it seems to be MOST OF THEM. Oh well. It's a cool thought.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

'Few arts articles offer more horrors than Brunettes press'

is really poetic, who wrote that?

-, Thursday, 5 August 2004 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I wonder who that was, "-- -".

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 5 August 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i used to edit TEARAWAY so surely i am CREDIBLE let's discuss issues facing young people and how to get a job in the army if you can't be twee by numbers for a career

hold my hand i am scared of the brunettes

please

NEIL YOUNG, Thursday, 5 August 2004 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, The Kinks! Good call. Yeah Camilla annoys the bejesus out of me. I did think that Roo was being too harsh, but then I remembered that the show's called INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY for fucksake. So I guess yr not out of line expecting it to be smart every now and then.
This seems like as good a place as any to say I saw "Coffee and Cigarettes" this arvo. By crikey, it was good.

Minty (Minty), Thursday, 5 August 2004 05:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah Coffee and Cigarettes was great! I wanna see it again. Now.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Thursday, 5 August 2004 05:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Neil I meant the album not the people if that makes any difference

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

And anyway there was something even worse in the Listener recently, this actor claimed the text Jack Nicholson was endlessly typing in "The Shining" was "redrum redtum redrum", boy I was steamed

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 5 August 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Once also they misspelt "Jem" as "Gem"! Can you beat that

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 5 August 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i saw the brunettes live the other day. nice, but my band are better.

purple patch (electricsound), Friday, 6 August 2004 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i can't believe she managed to write an entire mc5 history guide thing without even mentioning iggy pop and the stooges..

oh and no matter what you guys say, i still really dig the new brunettes album, and im looking forward to their chch gig.. though not the extreme price its gonna cost though (fucking jetset.. pluto/goodshirt the other day was apparently $27!!)

chris andrews (fraew), Friday, 6 August 2004 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm glad for you that you like it. I saw the video again, it just reminds me of Sammy or something, so much so it's KINDA TRIPPY DUDE seeing it in 2004

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 6 August 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

jim, tugboat are a thousand times better than the brunettes.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Friday, 6 August 2004 23:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I wanna hear Tugboat!

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 8 August 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Man you guys talk about the dumbest shit on the planet...

The Leader (Adrian McCoy), Sunday, 8 August 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

didn't you download the mp3s on el-jay andrew?

purple patch (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

oh and yay for di!

purple patch (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, I can't download anything right now. They're still up tho, right?

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Still don't have any speakers, either

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"Classically-trained Welshman", hahahaha!
"It's true! It took me 3 years study to be this Welsh!"

Minty (Minty), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 10:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I'd seen that so much

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 12:13 (twenty-one years ago)

She also said Nico was "androgynous"

Minty (Minty), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 07:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Did anyone else see Aida Turturro on the "She Bop" video tonight?

Minty (Minty), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

camilla once said the guy from tv on the radio looked like "an overweight version of lenny kravitz". wtf?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

she also claimed the doublehappys were shayne carters first band.. christ, what about Bored Games?!?!, or the Weeds..gah

Oh and she profiled VU without even mentioning La Monte Young... weird

chris andrews (fraew), Thursday, 12 August 2004 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't feel so bad about Black Sabbath no more

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

My lame "review"/blather about the newish Sy got used as its description thing on the ILM top albums of the 00s thing, I'm kinda flattered.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 19 August 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I just looked at that, that's so cool.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Friday, 20 August 2004 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Even though you're a horrible ageist misogynist? Cool. I have plenty of cigarettes now, it RULES.

Livvie (Livvie), Saturday, 21 August 2004 03:07 (twenty-one years ago)

for those of you who can't read, my first response on the thread said "i know andrew isn't anti-feminist or a misogynist but..." i guess my efforts in trying to TACTFULLY pull people up for saying dubious shit that could be interpreted badly by the wrong people aren't wanted. i think i'll go back to plotting for a man-free world now.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 22 August 2004 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

also my spiel about "co-opting" etc was partly directed at anthony easton, i should have made that clear so it didn't seem like i was singling andrew out. i dunno, if andrew has a problem with this, perhaps he could take it up with me himself livvie?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 22 August 2004 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Di I can read and I read that bit, thanks. I'm sorry you immediately assume that was meant be directed at YOU (especially since there were other people on that thread who DID call Andrew misogynist and patronising). I know Andrew can be a deliberately inflammatory dickhead at times (this being one of them) but he's never THAT serious and consequently I don't take it very seriously either - if I was hassling anyone it was HIM, but man it was totally throwaway. I'm not too pleased you think I would leap to his defence just because of my relationship to him, actually. But yeah I'm sorry you think I'd stoop to cryptic digs at you just because you hassled my dumbass boyfriend a bit.

Livvie (Livvie), Sunday, 22 August 2004 09:27 (twenty-one years ago)

(Look I can see how this could have been misinterpreted cause no one else who posts on that thread even READS IRE. I guess I should've thought of that, sorry. I hope you're having a great birthday.)

Livvie (Livvie), Sunday, 22 August 2004 09:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey I just realised when I posted that I HADN'T read the thread, all I knew was that Andrew said "some people" on IRE called him those things. You weren't even mentioned Di so this whole thing is silly, really.

Livvie (Livvie), Sunday, 22 August 2004 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I was calling myself that actually

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 22 August 2004 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

On IRE? I mean if it'd been you Di or anyone IREish I'd just've said

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 22 August 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh FLYBOY, yeah. He wasn't very good.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 22 August 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

hey livvie, i'm sorry that i made the wrong conclusion about your post up there. phew, relief! i was worried this was gonna be way messier.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 23 August 2004 05:53 (twenty-one years ago)

That's okay! Did you get good presents?

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 23 August 2004 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah. i got a new duvet, some booze, $50, and my flatmates made me an awesome vegan dinner.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN. IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN.

The Giant (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 11:51 (twenty years ago)

Fuck, did the Brunettes release another single?

Livvie (Livvie), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 12:11 (twenty years ago)

This thread has given me the GENIUS IDEA of listening to SLADEST! ROCK ROCK ROCK! Hahaha on C4 today Camilla said something like "It's so good it even shares a name by the Smiths....or Morrissey!" She was talking about the Brunettes' "Boy Racer". I currently have an almost full pack of Lucky Strikes and two roll-your-owns, I am SET.

Livvie (Livvie), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 12:23 (twenty years ago)

Did they put that song out, good, best of luck to the Broons eh

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 12:40 (twenty years ago)

What's the video like? I can't imagine them hanging out with real boyracers, I bet it's something ironic like Jonathon and Heather in a cortina.

Minty (Minty), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 22:10 (twenty years ago)

Worse, it's the whole band onstage riding bicycles.

Livvie (Livvie), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 22:21 (twenty years ago)

That song has been out for like 2 years though.

Livvie (Livvie), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 22:30 (twenty years ago)

as someone who is actually closely related by blood to several boyracers, i find their song really annoying. THEY DON'T FUCKING UNDERSTAND.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 00:18 (twenty years ago)

J's prob been called "faggot" by enough passing boyracers to make up for it tho

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 00:45 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
i come from germany an i go to school my english isn`t good i lern irerish in the school
