A weekend in Wellington might make you hate Auckland (more) y'know. Don't have that many recommendations, just follow your nose and you'll probably have a great time. A party on the frigate sounds choice, especially since it's so far outside Fleet's broadcast range.

Do go for some of that ludicrously cheap roti and curry you seem to be able to get from absolutely anywhere in Wellington tho. Seriously, even fish & chip shops have that shit, it's great. Also, the Flying Burrito Brothers restaurant. Um, ok I'm hungry, can't think of anything non-food related. All right, Te Papa. Fuckin' great.

Don't go to the Southern Cross it's a shithole.

Go to the Green Parrot instead, you might bump into Winston Peters.

At this supermarket called Moore Wilson's you can buy a 40kg sack of pasta spirals. Good times.

the mexican will be out of your price range. as will most of the city's high-lights. the frigate sucks. have fun.

there's a 2nd hand bookshop called Pegasus in this lane off Cuba Street (pretentiously named "the Left Bank") I think you'd like.
There's hardly anything/where to eat out okay food, except turkish. At least Auckland isn't freezing cold and painfully windy all the time
