Soundtracks

Actually I LOVE a lot of soundtrack records, but ALL TOO OFTEN someone decides to mess around w/the actual film music (ie. what a recordcollecting loser like me actually WANTS) by incl. a bunch of stupid "songs" as well. The worst example (listening right now) I can think of right now is "Midnight Cowboy"- it ruins (almost) a potentially great Lp of John Barry w/some completely awful mockpsychedelic RUBBISH (tho it also incl. "Everybody's Talkin'", so it's not all bad). So, is this not hateable? Any other examples?

I meant "songs" to specifically pertain to the dreck on the "Midnight Cowboy" Lp, not songs in general. I know plenty of losers who are "over songs" and I am NOT ONE OF THEM.

"From and inspired by the motion picture" that's it.

"hey, I like Batman so much I'm gonna write a song about him!"

What a recordcollecting loser like me wants is something that can be listened to all the way through, and I have never imagined soundtracks to be such so they are only good for odd songs. I only buy soundtracks for band completionist purposes really, on the offchance they have a track I can't get elsewhere or they are performed in their entirety but a band I like, but usually soundtracks are not causes I want to contribute to because they are advertising, or something.

Damian! Perhaps I should tape you some Ennio Morricone or something, there is a great hidden history of odd music in the mustering reels of 70s films. Some of this stuff is just amazing.

Oh yeah he is good, I will make an exception for him. That Brian Eno guy, he's pretty good too.

Montenegro! HENRY MANCINI! Film scores kick ass, it's generic movie-tie-in-bland-radio-filler-promotional-exercises that let the side down.
