i posted a link to a song last month when i was drunk, before it was close to finished, and then woke up the next morning and deleted it. i had the chance to put a lot more effort into it, and now i'm a lot happier with it:

Kind of makes me think of this unfortunately soft and very muddy thing I did last year that I desperately want to re-do properly, but can't work out what chords I played on the guitar (cos I cant play guitar, ha)

I'll take a stab at it, Trayce.
First chord sound like a straight up Dmaj.
Second chord - (E-2nd fret A-2nd fret D-muted G-2nd fret B-2nd fret E-muted)
Third chord - (E-4th fret A-4th fret D-muted G-2nd fret B-2nd fret E-muted)
Fourth chord - (E-muted A-open D-muted G-2nd fret B-2nd fret E-2nd fret)

That's at least how it sounds to my ears.

thanks Trayce! i've never actually listened to Tindersticks before. i should check them out!

Z S, Monday, 8 July 2013 20:03 (eleven years ago) link

Ooh thanks for looking into that Fetch, you're awesome! I shall try that when I get home and see how it sounds. I really wanna redo this song.

Nice range of stuff here. Got DL's vampire weekend cover stuck in my head now, and never even heard the original.

This is silly, 95% down on the tram with an OP-1 (yes i am a hipster)

S- that's a neat idea for a track. I like it - somewhere between the Beach Boys' 'Country Air' and a more experimental Pluxus.

i'm feeling bold, so i'm just gonna post this. this is just a practice track with two practices practice spliced together for practice, but it's the first thing i've ever put together that sounds even remotely like i did it intentionally (i totally didn't, but it almost sounds like i did!)

The room reverb sounds great, were the drums recorded in your basement?

slamming on the dubstep brakes (snoball), Thursday, 25 July 2013 18:58 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, with my cellphone!

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Thursday, 25 July 2013 19:01 (eleven years ago) link

you should have posted that on the drummers advice thread too!

1) your drums sound good! whatever kit you ended up picking up, nice job.
2) YOU sound good! it's obvious you're striking the drums with some authority, and your tempo is generally solid.

Z S, Thursday, 25 July 2013 19:28 (eleven years ago) link

LL i know we're going to play together live at some point but also if you ever just want to send me drum recordings like that i can try and make songs on top of them. might be fun.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 25 July 2013 19:37 (eleven years ago) link

n/a - ok! i put the drum part by itself on soundcloud too -- can you download it? i have no idea. i can send it to you too if you want. that's my best one so far, but maybe after lesson on friday i will have more to offer.

also, thank you! i didn't want to spam the drummers thread so i thought i would put it here but i will happily repost if you think it's worth it
really i was just glad it came out sounding like i meant it to and i figured out how to do all the things (like the 3 things) i wanted to do in garageband. it has been a SLOW learning process for me, but i'm getting there.

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Thursday, 25 July 2013 20:44 (eleven years ago) link

i think you have to enable downloads on soundcloud or something? maybe you should just email it to me.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 25 July 2013 20:47 (eleven years ago) link

will do!

free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Thursday, 25 July 2013 20:50 (eleven years ago) link

That totally rocks, LL. Drumming is great, solid and driving and kind of menacing.

thanks! once again you can really only see me hands, briefly, in that video. I am on the right, behind the chair, scraping a cymbal.

That cover would be a great 7" sleeve (and the song should be the a-side).

And if you can tolerate that, this might top you off https://soundcloud.com/doglatin/the-fieldworker-improv-guitar

(FWIW these are attempts to make things before I've even woken up properly. What Flamboyant Goon was saying on another thread, being half-awake sure makes you come up with ideas you'd otherwise never do).

giving my new keyboard - guitar - loop pedal setup a runout despite not yet having a fully functional amp*, really i wanna be herbie hancock and john mclaughlin at the same time, but having absolutely no knowledge or ability transforms it into something that may only make sense in my head.

*i ordered one and then i received an email saying the container it was on sank and so it's now at the bottom of the ocean. this augurs well for my musical future

Actually only just seen this - we really don't think of ourselves in that way! Obviously I've put out records on both those labels so it's no insult, but in the main we feel pretty different to that stuff.

I may regret posting this, but this was the original version of the track I did for the NIN comp. Its not that I hated it so much as I knew it wouldnt fit, somehow. But hey, think Eurovision.

Would watch that Eurovision.

Would totally buy a 12" of Undertow with that track as the flip.

I'm still finding it hard to process the fact people think my music's any good, I'm still my worst critic. I guess thats a good thing.

It is like ganging up on Enya (Trayce), Friday, 9 August 2013 01:48 (eleven years ago) link

I would be interested in taking a crack at making an extended more dancedloor orientated remix of undertow if you were up for it.

Hmmm.Interesting idea.
