shares a kinship with the FP/WIAIWYA thing (inasmuch as there can be one?)

Actually only just seen this - we really don't think of ourselves in that way! Obviously I've put out records on both those labels so it's no insult, but in the main we feel pretty different to that stuff.

I may regret posting this, but this was the original version of the track I did for the NIN comp. Its not that I hated it so much as I knew it wouldnt fit, somehow. But hey, think Eurovision.

Would watch that Eurovision.

Would totally buy a 12" of Undertow with that track as the flip.

Man I love this thread. so much variety and good stuff. Awesome Slum of Legs vid.

I'm still finding it hard to process the fact people think my music's any good, I'm still my worst critic. I guess thats a good thing.

I would be interested in taking a crack at making an extended more dancedloor orientated remix of undertow if you were up for it.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 9 August 2013 09:49 (eleven years ago) link

Hmmm.Interesting idea.

ya very cool. On reflection, wouldn't ILX pre-covers Eurovision be the best thing imaginable?

for some reason I can't post in the musical life thread so I'm going to add a bit of pseudo-spam here and see if it's just that thread or this whole forum. Here's something I did! https://soundcloud.com/eeeeeein/gtr3 I don't know what I'm doing but I think some parts sound quite nice.

Anyone else having a problem with their Soundcloud page? I went to my page and it looked different and told me I was using an old version of Soundcloud, asking if I wanted to switch to the newer version. I switched and it looked like it usually does again except now the songs are playing at an extremely low volume.

timellison, Thursday, 15 August 2013 05:38 (eleven years ago) link

Your Soundcloud page seems fine to me.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 15 August 2013 05:45 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, I see that there's a volume control bar for listening now at the top and mine was set low. Thanks Sund4r.

(i only recorded the last seven minutes of an hour long loop pedal jam here, woulda been nice to have it all and be able to edit it into something tight but eh i'd never have gotten around to it.)

Waluigi Nono (Merdeyeux), Monday, 9 September 2013 20:29 (eleven years ago) link

We've just released a new (free stream and download) song which we produced at home, and we've got a new Bandcamp page too: http://discozhivago.bandcamp.com/ feedback appreciated as always.

very cool dl, a lot going on but it works nicely. how long have you guys been together now?

digging that remix too, owen.

Waluigi Nono (Merdeyeux), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 18:12 (eleven years ago) link

Thanks Merdeyeux. I know what you mean about 'a lot going on'. Our young drummer's keen to get into production but I'm always having to rein him back a bit or else he starts adding extra melodies and effects where they're not supposed to be. We recorded the stems in his front room using Reason 6.5 - that's Phil singing lead, not me (we all take turns to sin lead on various songs). The mixing and editing was started by our drummer but I ended up wading in and cleaning it up in the end as it was getting way too complicated. This is the result of when things get piled on and as much can be subtracted as not to cause hurt feelings. We've been doing stuff as a three piece for about 2-3 years although I'd say we've only been a band with recognisable songs for about a year.

listening to it now, it's on spotify already too. sounds rad.

thanks dudes! fyi there was a little mix-up where an earlier version of the master was sent out digital distribution, which apparently is hard to rectify (you can send out a replacement, but can't control whether or not the various streaming services/stores take it). not a big deal but i wonder which one ended up on spotify.

not really original music, but me singing through an old Rodgers and Hammerstein standard in an effort to get my voice back in shape for this benefit I'm singing at Saturday. not well produced (cuz I suck at that stuff) so it clips, but....here it is!

Very bad footage of a semi-poorly attempted show, but I definitely had the most fun I've ever had at this one. We're definitely improving. There's quite a bit of improvised stuff going on here

I've posted a lot of these tracks already on this thread but I feel like I'm moving away from doing the loop/sample-based music I've been working on for the past couple of years and shifting back to guitar-based stuff so to put a cap on an era I made a soundcloud playlist of my favorites - https://soundcloud.com/scarequotes-1/sets/nobodies-do-it-better

haha, i had some deja vu while i was posting that, which is why i included the caveat.

festival culture (Jordan), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 21:43 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah I'm happy with that direction where I was using loops and samples but also doing some more live guitar and bass on top of it. I think if I want to keep doing stuff I like that I need to figure out how to do some more "songwriting" with it; i.e. having more structure and direction and variation.
