This is really fantastic, Trayce.

Listening to Trayce's looking voice. I'm into how spontaneous it is.
I've been poking around at some music. Newest is "Freeway/Carousel" (which is still in sketch form). Would be into knowing if people would dig it for their sadztime.

i made a playlist on soundcloud of my first year of songs. i couldn't have done this without the help of the good people of ilx and i am really genuinely grateful for all of the help and encouragement and time and effort friends have given me. i'm really proud of this! anyway, since this is my last weekend of summer, here it is http://bit.ly/1nX6X1Y
year 2 already has 2 songs in the bubbler! full steam ahead...

Cool!
I made a new album over the past seven months: http://scarequotes.bandcamp.com/album/its-not-for-everyone-but-its-for-you. It's my first album in like three or four years. Lots of tape hiss, lots of guitars.
― Immediate Follower (NA), Monday, 4 August 2014 13:52 (ten years ago)
Feel a bit bad posting stuff up myself as although I have this thread bookmarked I fail badly at keeping up with listening.
But my new band have our debut single out, and you can listen here: http://riotsnotdiets.bandcamp.com/album/begin-to-dissolve
― emil.y, Tuesday, 5 August 2014 12:18 (ten years ago)
Sounds great, I especially like the synth sounds and fuzzy bass on the first song.

'Faded Black T-Shirt' is a great song title

v into 'Razorblade the Tape'
― Merdeyeux, Tuesday, 5 August 2014 23:20 (ten years ago)
attempt at something live with a new piece of gear. Sounds a bit amateurish but some okay ideas i think

I was away for a while and mostly sans ILX, so just now catching up.
Sounds cool S-! What's the new gear?
emil.y I really like the part where 'Razorblade the tape' where it opens up and the singer says "won't let you get away"
NA 'Vice President' is a sweet song. Sort of reminds me of the controlled unhingedness that YLT has on some of their better louder songs
― Karl Malone, Monday, 18 August 2014 22:44 (ten years ago)
What's the new gear?
i believe the gear in question is the elektron octatrack, which i witnessed being used to excellent effect this weekend just gone
― ned's atomic raggett (electricsound), Monday, 18 August 2014 23:39 (ten years ago)
Thanks for listening KM. I always thought it would be funny to have a stoner rock band called Vice President but the second best option was using the name for a heavy psych song (or what's a heavy psych song in my mind).
― Immediate Follower (NA), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 16:48 (ten years ago)
NA i liked how your album had all kinds of different songs on it but they all were you, so they sounded coherent also as i mentioned, sensitive family song --> frozen grapes was a stroke of geniusthe first song was my favorite, i think?
here is one thing i did -- it's all me! drums + my little synth. it would sound better with something else in the mix but i left it as is because i was excited that it sounded ok at all. there's at least one noticeable flub in the middle. http://bit.ly/YpsS8s
and here is another (i don't even know what to call this -- is it a remix if drums are added to an existing recording? is it ok to post for listening (but not for download)? i wonder about these things. it's another 13-14th c dance tune with unsolicited extra drums. i think it sounds kinda Third Ear Band ish? http://bit.ly/1qmXTAk
even if no one listens to it, posting things here is good for me because it means i'm not afraid to do so (even if i should be!)
― cross over the mushroom circle (La Lechera), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 17:52 (ten years ago)
i believe the youtubers call them "drum covers"
― festival culture (Jordan), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 17:57 (ten years ago)
I'm glad it sounds cohesive. It was supposed to be more cohesive/have more of a shared sound across the songs but I'm not good at sticking to plans like that. I'm really happy with how the album turned out though.
― Immediate Follower (NA), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 18:06 (ten years ago)
don't take this the wrong way (you do not sound anything like lou barlow at his sappiest) but it reminds me of what i liked about peak era sebadoh -- catchy songs, variety, some unexpected but welcome turns. except that was 3 songwriters and you are still 1 person afaik :)
drum covers ehi guess it's not against the law if it's not available for download? i haven't really entered the world of youtube because i don't particularly want to be seen.
― cross over the mushroom circle (La Lechera), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 18:08 (ten years ago)
Oh it's def going for old-school lo-fi 4-track home recording aesthetic, intentionally not "clean" (though I don't know if I could do clean if I tried), though I was never into Sebadoh specifically. That's my wheelhouse.
― Immediate Follower (NA), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 18:14 (ten years ago)
bubble & scrape had the best assortment of songs iirc
― cross over the mushroom circle (La Lechera), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 18:19 (ten years ago)
like a variety pack where all the varieties are good!
i guess it's not against the law if it's not available for download?
eh no one cares unless you're making lots of money from something
― festival culture (Jordan), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 18:39 (ten years ago)
i thought for sure it would be ok but then i read this! i think people bristled bc he was collecting/distributing his stuff but man those folk people are kinda nuts. http://www.thewire.co.uk/in-writing/columns/bell-labs_folk-fatwas-from-the-trad-taliban
Although Under The Hills And Nearby was an extremely modest release – a handful of cassettes and a Bandcamp page – I worried that Callow might ruffle folk feathers for using recordings without permission. And so it proved. He wrote to Topic to open discussions, and the curt response was a bill for hundreds of pounds plus VAT. The Alan Lomax archive took a similarly dim view and saw it all in financial terms. Then came a threat of litigation from Mike Yates, a song collector who had made some of the original recordings. Yates let off steam in a rant on the Musical Traditions website – “my feeling of disgust…underhand manner…Callow’s horrible work (he can’t even keep in time with the singing!)”.
― cross over the mushroom circle (La Lechera), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 18:50 (ten years ago)
on the other hand, i kinda get itthose recordings aren't his to modify
― cross over the mushroom circle (La Lechera), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 18:51 (ten years ago)
I take a very lenient view on appropriating, especially when there's no money being exchanged.
― Karl Malone, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 19:01 (ten years ago)
true, you do get the folks who will go in whether there's money to be made or not. for instance my brass band plays a version of 'r3d dress' aka 'h1gh heel sneakers', a blues, and a relative of the artist who originally recorded it is relentless as far as going after license fees wherever it shows up. my favorite live video of us ever recently got taken off youtube because it contained the last few bars of that tune (and unfortunately it was in the title of the video).
― festival culture (Jordan), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 20:29 (ten years ago)
here's a track from a new project i did with two drummer friends, the idea was to make dance music with just percussion sounds that we recorded together:
http://soundcloud.com/artsextract/calabash-boom-hisarna
the mixes came out sounding a little bit more 'polite' than i intended, but it was fun to make and i'm glad we saw the concept through.

thanks LL, the bass on that track is this gigantic, rickety, bootleg-looking bass kalimba that one of the dudes got at a thrift store.

LL I admit I was v puzzled coz when I click that link I get five minutes of just drums (upload date last year), but now that I've found the actual one, this is v cool!
I've been musically inactive for ages because I've had the template for some kind of electro ballad in my head but with no ability to realise it, so instead I noodled over the top of its droney foundation and now I can abandon it https://soundcloud.com/eeeeeein/lfsj5
