Opening track sounded like something from The Goon Show. I half expected Peter Sellers to say something like "Ach! No more high fibre diet!".

just like Nietzsche but with jokes (snoball), Wednesday, 17 December 2014 21:01 (nine years ago) link

haha, it's entirely improvised - just one take and one mic with no script. there are some pretty absurd moments on there

I finished this song last week but haven't officially released it yet.

For anyone curious I used a Bass Station II, u-he Diva, TAL U-NO-LX, and Matrix 6 for synths (these and guitar through a Strymon El Capistan), and an MXL V67G for vocals.

made this little dancey song with a bobbie gentry sample, a drum machine and some keyboards. i don't usually do dancey stuff like this so i really have no idea what i'm doing.

Heez, Tuesday, 10 February 2015 02:54 (nine years ago) link

so i took the above song and added samples of a woman reading coupons on the radio that i taped a long time ago. it's now bizarrely hilarious.

There is this Com Truise sample contest going, so I made this track with my Juno 106 and Bass Station II:

We've got a new song up. A quasi-metal tune called 'The Art Of Breathing'. We were going to make a proper video for it but ran out of editing time. Oh well. Would love to know what you all think.

that's a v cool track, heez.

after a few super busy months of doing very little music (and with a few more ahead) the other day i dusted everything off for a quick attempt at some kind of grouper ripoff, which turned into something a bit more grotesque

had a couple remixes come out btw:

https://soundcloud.com/do-the-astral-plane/michael-brailey-2-lovers-chants-remix

https://soundcloud.com/do-the-astral-plane/premiere-hudson-alexander-so-many-things-chants-remix

i did them months apart and ended up using the same sample (a door slamming in the parking garage at work) to reinforce the kick drum in both, then they came out the same day. so embarrassing.

lil urbane (Jordan), Friday, 10 July 2015 19:53 (nine years ago) link

you have a signature kick drum sound now!

Ha it literally took us six months to record that 13 minutes of music (though a big chunk of that was dead time from me working on other things and kind of forgetting about it for a while). The stuff that ended up on the EP was not part of a focused plan, it was just as we were finishing up it we said "hey we should have a band again." So we'll see what it actually means to "have a new band" when we have four kids between us and have to get a babysitter and travel to the suburbs to practice.

guess you'll have to substitute "internet hype tactics" for "playing shows". that's what i do anyway.

"Cielo" is my favourite. I thought of the first two SYR releases a bit?

EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 26 August 2015 17:12 (nine years ago) link

I love the SYR series, especially the first two. There's this one guitar thing on "Cielo" where I thought, eep, that's a little too SY-ripoffy, but left it in anyway.

And fascinating stuff, Sund4r! The signal processing is blowing my mind.

gonna check these out in a bit.

in the meantime, my band has a new song which I sang and played and recorded at home. quite proud of it if I do say so

canoon fooder (dog latin), Wednesday, 26 August 2015 19:19 (nine years ago) link

holy shit I love 'Grammar' by Arc Pair. dunno if it's because I've been listening to them lately but there's something slightly Electrelane about this. good work!

canoon fooder (dog latin), Wednesday, 26 August 2015 19:23 (nine years ago) link

thanks!! it was also recorded at home -- two different homes in two different states, in fact :)

La Lechera, Wednesday, 26 August 2015 19:42 (nine years ago) link

at first i thought it was a live thing but then more elements got introduced. it's very organic/natural sounding.

canoon fooder (dog latin), Wednesday, 26 August 2015 19:44 (nine years ago) link

karl malone this is really sweet. i may pass this on to a few people who might like it.
sund4r this is impressive. shame i can't see what you're doing here. would love a video at some point

canoon fooder (dog latin), Wednesday, 26 August 2015 21:57 (nine years ago) link

Thanks, Tarfumes and dl. I keep wanting to make a video recording of a gig but something always goes wrong. This, from a couple of years ago, is probably the closest thing atm. My end of it is comparatively more basic, though: I was really just accompanying the student choir.
