I'll never be totally happy with it but I decided it was time to move on. Deep breaths left in as a tribute to Glenn Gould.

Finally finished recording my classical guitar piece:
Finally settled on a mix I'm happy with and put it out on Bandcamp.

I'd gotten so used to working on my laptop that I forgot that I'm in charge of a studio now and have access to studio monitors. Things went a lot faster at that point.

I have a remixed version of my last EP out, with some pretty insane work from others + one from me. At first I didn't know if remixing my own track would work out, because you hopefully use all your best ideas the first time, right? But that turned out to not be the case at all, it felt more like correcting my mistakes. It would be interesting to have the time and confidence to do that with every record, just set it aside for six months and then come back and dispassionately carve it up like it was someone else's work.

https://forcesatworktheband.bandcamp.com/releasesAfter several years, Forces At Work finally got our act together and recorded some songs. It’s rock music. I was thinking of bands like The Clean, The Go-Betweens, The Feelies, The Soft Boys, and Guided By Voices when writing this stuff, but who knows what it actually sounds like. You tell me!

I was digging around for classical music to play at my kids and stumbled across this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UKmYPi9weM
I'm singing in the bass section and my wife is singing in the soprano section. Also I love this piece to death and could probably sing it from memory.

oh man, i love that copland, must be fun to sing. and thanks for checking out forces at work, dudes! haven't really put much out in the world in a while, but it's nice to share this ...

nice Dan. can you pick yourself out when listening back, or do you know that you're doing a good job because you can't? it's been so long since i played in a section of anything.
― change display name (Jordan), Tuesday, 7 February 2017 15:19 (seven years ago) link
In that group, I could pretty much never pick out my voice in the section, partially because I try my hardest to blend, partially because the group was large (I think there were 80 ppl singing "In The Beginning"?), mostly because most of the other people had better vocal technique than me and could blow the roof off if they wanted to.
I can totally hear several individual tenors though, including one of my friends; also there are a couple of times where I hear my wife in the soprano section.

I finally got this, from Toronto from last August. I was really nervous and it's probably not my tightest performance of the piece, but I'm really happy with how the video came out.

The record for my band that has been in motion for over a year is pretty much recorded and mixed. I went out and baptized the last CDR by running them through the tour truck riding around the country. I think it's done and am going to put in an order for Carl Saff to master it either tomorrow or Wednesday.
Just got to hope I haven't done anything too stupid on the mix that run into anything in mastering. I know with the first CD we did it actually sounded a shiteload better after coming back from mastering than going in, so knock wood that will be the case again.

Ugh so we finally got off our butts and put this song up as a video. It was filmed for about 6p 2 years ago and I guess it's... I dunno it's like a quasi-parody of black metal but it's also an anti-smoking song that we came up with after listening to wayyy too much Scott Walker. Also you can tell my bandmates don't even listen to BM at all. It was so fun to do and it's absolutely ridiculous

Another track. I'm very interested in making tracks that vocalists could potentially freestyle over, but for whatever reason I've always lacked the necessary restraint to make them minimal enough. This has a soca rhythm but sounds like it could have come out on Border Community or Kompakt https://soundcloud.com/doglatin/khaki-drop-riddim
