This is good too! Neu-style vibes...

― paolo, Monday, 22 April 2019 18:23 (seven years ago)

Thank you for listening!

I like your stuff too, paolo. It's very skeletal and atmospheric.

my bandcamp was getting out of hand, so streamlined my it over the weekend. now the singles and non-long playing stuff have their own artist listings:

austinato*singles

the proper austinato artist page is still there; less massive now though.

[url=https://austinatosingles.bandcamp.com/album/second-wind-for-jamie]this is the latest thing; was posted yesterday.[url]

four weeks pass...

I think I (with former (?) ILXor ESOJ have written a bit of a non-standard pop hit, and a really nice video was made for it

S-, that is indeed a very beautiful thing you have done there!

new release from me: 'brooke's theme.'

also, i've been posting covers and oddball stuff on my soundcloud. apparently i do prince-sampling happy mondays covers now.. i'm actually pretty okay with this.

― Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Saturday, 15 June 2019 16:18 (seven years ago)

Thank you very much paolo and Austin!

I don't visit this thread as often as I should, but just listening to the Constant Light album now and it rules.

really lovely stuff, austin!

the 4th track was playing out of my crappy laptop speakers (sorry!) and for a second i thought i was listening to cleaners to venus!

― i will never make a typo ever again (Karl Malone), Friday, 5 July 2019 02:39 (seven years ago)

you are a saint for listening!

thank you for the feedback — i am always simultaneously embarrassed and honored when my music gets compared to, like, actual music. i have never heard of cleaners from venus before; a quick google tells me that i have some investigating to do this weekend. double thanks!

Some new weird stuff from me:

HEP LAD - EP LAD H

― EZ Snappin, Friday, 5 July 2019 20:13 (seven years ago)

Cool stuff, guys! I've been working on a bunch of electronic tracks, just need to master a bunch of stuff before putting it out as Balboa Park.

esby - I made a trip-hop version of your track that I'm pretty into, but I'm waiting on my cousin to finish some rapping for it, for which I have high hopes.

I've been having a blast with Max4Live MIDI LFOs in Live, attaching them to all sorts of stuff. My latest fave is attaching a random LFO to an arpeggiator Type parameter, so that the arp type changes every couple of bars. This makes for some neat, ever-changing apreggiations.

New recording of a classical guitar duo I wrote last year. The two guitars are in different tunings and mostly play harmonics, with some investigation of the acoustic effects you can get from slightly detuned pitches:

― All along there is the sound of feedback (Sund4r), Friday, 19 July 2019 16:47 (seven years ago)

I like that one, I love harmonics and muted string scratches. Also, you probably don't want to hear that it would make good horror soundtrack music (to the laymen's ears).

― change display name (Jordan), Friday, 19 July 2019 20:12 (seven years ago)

I take that as a compliment, actually. I like a lot of horror film scores.

― All along there is the sound of feedback (Sund4r), Friday, 19 July 2019 21:42 (seven years ago)

So thanks!

― All along there is the sound of feedback (Sund4r), Friday, 19 July 2019 21:42 (seven years ago)

Horror soundtracks are the greatest!!

― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 19 July 2019 21:54 (seven years ago)

Ok cool, I just assumed that anyone ensconced in the world of 12 tone/new music/etc would be sick of people hearing their compositions as dissonant horror movie music :)

― change display name (Jordan), Friday, 19 July 2019 22:12 (seven years ago)

good enough for colin stetson!

― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 19 July 2019 22:12 (seven years ago)

:)
i think horror music is the best. i even started a thread about it! horror soundtracks

― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 19 July 2019 22:14 (seven years ago)

Ha, there was a new person at orchestral rehearsal tonight who I'm suspecting is not that used to playing new music. At the end, she commented that "it sounded a bit like a horror movie soundtrack". I asked "the last piece?" She replied "all of them".

― All along there is the sound of feedback (Sund4r), Sunday, 21 July 2019 02:43 (seven years ago)

Sund4r, I love that stuff. It reminds me of some of that really odd "American primitive" stuff from the late 70s. There was an album by Peter Finger that I recall having a lot of that really sparse harmonic exploration in it. I have no idea about the logistics of that stuff, but I absolutely love the tonality of it. I don't think of it as "horror film" music (probably because I don't watch many films and never have); more like "overcast sky" music — which is a mood I like very much.

As for me, everything else is gone, but don't worry.

― Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Tuesday, 23 July 2019 15:40 (seven years ago)

wow Peter Finger has got to be one of the grossest names I've heard in a while

― Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Tuesday, 23 July 2019 16:28 (seven years ago)

Oh wow, thanks. Glad people are enjoying it. I love a lot of American Primitive guitar so that connection is cool. Don't know Peter Finger, though, so thanks for the link.

Although I can be very affected by instrumental music, what I get from it often has to do with abstract sensations and images, not necessarily something that I can associate directly with specific and concrete irl experiences, unless, of course, I have been listening to something for a long time, when I do connect the music to memories. I'm happy to see listeners make connections to moods or scenarios that mean something to them.

I just listened to "don't worry" and enjoyed it. Pleasant mood and grooves, nice guitar tones.

― All along there is the sound of feedback (Sund4r), Tuesday, 23 July 2019 17:06 (seven years ago)

I just listened to "don't worry" and enjoyed it.

You are an absolute model human being and I owe you something significant.🤟

doing the soundtrack for another exhibition tonight, this one is titled "The Aesthetics Of Decay." I don't know if I'm going to do another collaboration like this again - they're a wonderful bunch but their vision is a lot darker and bleaker than the music I want to be making. But I'm really happy with how this has turned out - it would have been really easy and obvious to make a Ben Frost/Tim Hecker rip-off, but instead I've made 24 minutes of spacious ambient music that sounds like this.

― boxedjoy, Friday, 26 July 2019 12:17 (seven years ago)

That sounds cool, love all the bell tones and delays, and that it's not all drones and pads.

i recorded a little melodic doodle of me singing + playing drums because i wanted to hear what i sounded like singing and playing at the same time. definitely borrowed melodies from alex chilton & neil young so i named it accordingly https://soundcloud.com/marshmallowy/outofthepool

idk i am posting because i was afraid to, which was a sign to me that i should do it?

― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Monday, 2 September 2019 20:41 (seven years ago)

i listened and i think it sounds great!
