7(+)stringers - C or D?

Is this the biggest advance since electrification itself? See, I always feel a bit embarassed picking one up but once I do, I immediately think of so many things to do with it that I consider getting one. Then I get vague guilt feelings about being part of trend that will make 6-stringers obsolete and anachronistic which conflicts with my deeply felt belief in the 'freedom imposed by limitations', but on the other hand I love making a sound like Sleep's 'Jerusalem' or Electric Wizard's 'Funeralopolis' or the Melvins or Eyehategod or Nirvana's 'Negative Creep' so what to do, eh?

Altho I've been known for recording purposes to fit rilly rilly heavy strings on the Gibson and tune it to a C and you can get massive bends all over the place, it's cool but different feel altogether from having an actual 'B' string

Guitars with more than 6 strings which are not 12-strings = DUD DUD DUD BEYOND BELIEF! Get away from me and banish thy demons back to prog rock hell!!!!

What, you honestly don't think 12-strings are the worst thing ever? Yeech

But then, '12-strings: C or D' is a whole other issue, sorry!

It does seem like a matter of time until some psuedo Fripp Guitar Craft nerd or Lee Ranaldo protégé to come up with a tuning setup using a 7 string, as it seems perfect for their unique needs.

I personally wish they would make an electric alto guitar...alto guitars have ten strings, and are WILD, MAN!!!!

such "wackier" guitars ain't so unusual - 7 strings are based on an old jazz guitar option / idea and have been marketed to death by everyone who has a budget model they thought they could sell a bundle of offa the back of korn /bizkit etc. most people don't play so well and only got 5 fingers per hand so they've kinda flopped as their utility ain't so great. you can get baritone guitars daed easy too these days -they're great - the danelectro one's are still available at a song at most retailers worth their salt until they relaunch dano w/ cheaper (and i'm guessing shittier) chinese production. 9 strings are the king of guitars (as championed by josh of the fucking champs) 3 treble (g, b, &e)strings clean/ normal, bass e a & d doubled w/ thinner strings ala 12string - the dogs bulox. oh - and it doesn't take einstein or thurston moore to tune a guitar to anything but concert eadgbe pitch - just use yr imagination - the open "e" tuning on gary glittere "rock & roll pt2" came years before glenn branca even thought of it.

eleven months pass...
"most people don't play so well and only got 5 fingers per hand so they've kinda flopped as their utility ain't so great"

So a piano should only have 10 keys?

I say the more options the merrier.
