There’s actually...a lot of stuff this year. Feels good.

jjjusten, Thursday, 25 January 2018 20:32 (seven years ago)

For example, Reverend has gone full bore bizarre.

Yes, the fholes do in fact go all the way through the body and out the back. No, really.

jjjusten, Thursday, 25 January 2018 20:41 (seven years ago)

huh, didn't see that coming but i'm intrigued - i had a reverend sensei for a while and it was awesome, often wish i still had it

psyched to see what horrors fender and gibson have in store this year obv

Synth stuff overshadowing guitar stuff so much that it's not even funny any more.

2018 has to be better (snoball), Thursday, 25 January 2018 21:07 (seven years ago)

i know you guys keep talking about how good reverend guitars are, and i'm sure they play and sound great, but they are so, so ugly

na (NA), Thursday, 25 January 2018 21:30 (seven years ago)

a lot of them are irredeemably fugly for sure but there are some cool-looking models imo

this is a pretty sweet-looking axe to me

Reverend seems oddly decisive when it comes to looks, I think (and not just because I sell them) that few companies come close to them when it comes to actual new guitar design. I don’t dig the V’s, but I hate literally every V.

jjjusten, Friday, 26 January 2018 02:51 (seven years ago)

hey jjj there may be a thread for this elsewhere but what's good w/ <$1000 acoustics rn? im getting into fingerstyle playing and want something sized a little more appropriately than my taylor dreadnaught if i stick with it for a while.

I got one of these and really like it - http://acousticguitar.com/gear-review-gretsch-g9511-style-1-single-0-parlor/

The Empress Zoia pedal looks neat.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 26 January 2018 04:56 (seven years ago)

Man if there was ever a reason to use the takemymoney.gif, the G&L semi-hollow Doheny is it. Holy fuck this is cool.

I'm amazed that they could sell enough of these to justify production

louise ck (milo z), Friday, 26 January 2018 05:47 (seven years ago)

I’m very confused by that model, tbh

jjjusten, Friday, 26 January 2018 06:26 (seven years ago)

The Airsonic confuses me. Is it chambered as well? What purpose is served by having the f-holes go straight through? They can't just be Monkey Grips, right?

Some of Reverend's bodies are horribly shaped, but they've got some winners too. My favorites are the Corgan signature model and the Reeves Gabrels Spacehawk:

Oh shit y’all, G&L Doheny tribute series has been officially announced. Black and Olympic white with maple necks and black blocks, Surf Green and Burst with rosewood fingerboard and pearl block inlays. No prices announced yet.

jjjusten, Friday, 26 January 2018 19:29 (seven years ago)

I think that Corgan model would look much nicer if they lost all the pickguards.

There are flat out so many guitars out there anymore, I can't see buying anything but a used one these days. It has to be close to an extinction level event for many of the guitar companies, same with amps or pedals.

earlnash, Sunday, 28 January 2018 01:34 (seven years ago)

They have a few guitars with similar body shapes to the Corgan model, if the number of pickguards you require is fewer than 4.

The Warhawk used to have that raised middle kind of Firebird look like the Corgan a few years ago.

I'm more than set on instruments, only guitar that I look at getting anymore is a semi-hollow or hollowbody. The two models that check out are either a Gibson ES135 (w/p90s - some have p100s or humbuckers) or a Gretsch Tennessee Rose. I'd dig a Gibson ES175 or Gretsch Silver Falcon, but those are pretty expensive instruments.

earlnash, Sunday, 28 January 2018 03:33 (seven years ago)

Silver Falcon is sooo sharp.

I was pretty stoked about Wampler bringing back the Faux Spring Reverb. Never should have got rid of my old one.

he doesn't need to be racist about it though. (Austin), Sunday, 28 January 2018 21:40 (seven years ago)

Wampler's tape echo looks like it would be fun.

earlnash, Monday, 29 January 2018 01:50 (seven years ago)

I had the version two for a bit last summer. It was okay. The Dunlop Echoplex delay is hard to top.
