Having to write about your own music - promotional texts for albums and so on.

How do people here feel about this? Do you enjoy it or find it difficult?
Occasionally people who've put my stuff out have asked me to write about the album, for promotional purposes.
This is kind of a dilemma as ideally I would like to just put it out there with no explanation, but I also recognize that people like something with a bit of a story behind it, especially if they're not already familiar with what you do.
How do you approach this?

Hate it. The classic advice is "pretend you're writing about someone else."

Oh you know, just tread that line between personal but not pretentious, descriptive but not cliched or overblown, self-aware but not dismissive of your own work, nbd.

It sucks but I try to approach it like an artist's statement of what I was trying to do, rather than attempting to say what it is.
